hello so i brought the game last weekend and today i will hit lvl 80, im not a stranger to how mmos work but i am new to gw2 so i was looking for some advise tips and help on how to start gearing up what im looking for where to get good gear to get amazing gear what to farm what to do and what not to do

im playing longbow and great sword atm seems to work, i prefer playing as a archer in games so this is what ideal id like to gear up towards. any tips or hints on places to get gear or skills and traits to use would be a huge help and thank you in advance

Welcome to the game

First off though you need to let us know what game mode you are intending to play the most. Your options are Open World PvE, Dungeons/Fractals, sPvP or WvW.

They all require quite different things so it’s hard to help properly without knowing.

I’ll leave someone else to help you with farming because all I do in WvW.. gets me enough gold to buy what I need but it’s by no means fast or efficient

Hi m8, Welcome to GW2. GJ on buying GW2 for 10$, best value for money deal ever.
You went from 0 to 80 in one week, you obviously know how to play mmo’s. My tip for you, unlike most mmos, gw2 has a flat widthwise itemisation progression. So, its very easy to get an “exotic”(orange) gear set, you dont need even to farm for it, just play the game. The ascended set will take some time(the best gear in the game) and expect for like 10-15% stats boost at most(from extoc to ascended). so how to get?

exotic weapons – I think the best way is the reward system in PVP, choose a reward track that rewarsd you with weapons of your desired stats(if avilable). The pvp experience will also help decide what kind of gear you are looking for(sigils/runes/stats etc…)

Armor/runes/sigils – just buy it on AH, you can buy yellow versions if you lack the gold.

trinkets – Buy for karma in orr temple vendors(best use of karma in the game, dont feel bad for wasting it, you wont know what to do with it in the future.

yeah i am no stranger to the mmo world, been playing them the last 10 years or so, and yeah for 10bucks i couldnt say no to this as i loved playing the first gw but due to other commitment to another mmo i couldnt play this at the time

Dungeons using witcher’s links is the easiest way to make a ton of money. Lugh’s suggestion of earning gear through PvP is more fun once you’ve done the dungeons enough to get bored of them, or just for a break. Dungeons will get you money for all the fancy stuff like legendaries or ascended gear though.

Just Kepp in mid that Bazil guide(witcher’s links) are for experienced players. I have seen meny beginners run with the build and go down in 2 sec in open world bosses and doungeons. Its the best DPS build for PVE atm and i would definitely recommand it if you mastered your dodging skills.
I made some litle changes to the original build for the learning curve with affordable gear.

The wepaons(knight stats) are from sorrow’s embrace PVP track(Its available atm, you can get the 2 weapons in 2 days, kinda easy).

armor and trinkets are from Keeper Jonez Deadrun in Orr. You can have full armor and trinket set(zerk armor/soldair trinkets) for like 450,000 karma.

You can also just get the trinkets for karma and buy the armor on AH.

Until you save up for runes and sigils buy ruby orb(very cheap) and ruby jewels for trinkets. I put a cheap versions of foods and utility.

Congrats, U’r like 80% of the top end game gear after couple of days of normal playing. If you have a guild/team/freinds feel free to take this setup to every doungeon(like Fluffball suggested), you will be able to clear most of them.

In open pve you doesnt matter. Grab what you find and have some fun. In dungeons you need full berzerker with dmg runes. In wvw as a ranger you can be a berzerker longbow pewpew or a condition tank, maybe a trapper.
In pvp… Well i dont realy know whats going on there
