how exactly spirits works?
Frost Spirit is different from other spirits, it has no Internal Cooldown. It works on all attacks in the 6s window. Sun, water and storm can only proc once every 10 seconds.
Most players have no clue how spirits really work. Frost Spirit grants allies in its radius a 70% (traited) chance to do 10% bonus damage on every hit for the lifespan of the spirit plus 15 seconds. It can buff up to 10 allies at once. Many players don’t know that the secret to using spirits is to circulate them around to buff as many people as possible, and that they continue working after they die.
How Spirits Work:
Every 3 seconds the spirit grants a buff to the nearest 5 allies (players prioritized over pets and npcs). That buff grants the ally a 6 second window to try and proc the spirit’s effect each time they hit. The base chance is 35%, traited 70%. If they proc Water, Stone, Sun, or Storm… that player goes immediately on cooldown for that specific spirit, which means they cannot proc that effect again for 10 seconds. Frost does not have a cooldown, so every hit has a chance to do bonus damage.
Because the buffs are applied every 3 seconds and last 6 seconds, the spirit can buff up to 10 allies at once, as long as the spirit is near different allies every 3 seconds. Because the cooldown is 10 seconds for most spirits, you want to keep the spirit moving so that it doesn’t give the buff to people that can’t use it right now because they are on cooldown. If you do keep it moving it becomes much more efficient at buffing a large group.
Spirits continue working after they die:
Spirits pulse their buff 3 more times after they die… people in the area around the corpse will still have the frost spirit buff up to 15 seconds after it dies (on a 20s cooldown).
