Yes….everything. Rangers are the weakest offensive class in this game.
The class is by design a duo between the ranger and the pet. Max DPS is split between both…Having said that we would need the infamous 30/30/5/0/30 build to be in line with other classes hahaha
In my opinion -whatever that is worth- the class excels at evasion tanking and ranged single target control.

30/30/5/0/30? Pretty sure thats impossible. However, if it was, we would be amazingishnotreally…..but closer to being on par. Sadly I like how you said ranged single target….control, not damage, control, wtf is that kitten, Im shooting people with arrows, not trying to control them but kill them.

I think the ranger is an awesome class for both PVE and PVP its useful for defending and attacking
The ranger is the best long range class. It’s what rangers excel at: long range. You need to get the marksmanship X trait for it, but it’s there. Consistent damage at 1500+ range. I can’t think of anything I would rather play in WvW. You can even hit beyond 1500 range with Long Range Shot (very good name for it actually). The long range also allows rangers to simply go full glass cannon berserker with decent survivability through signet of the hunt, signet of stone and/or “protect me”(+bear pet on passive).
for spvp however… don’t do this.
Overall, Ranger is the best at long range, and can do some awesome damage while the enemy is kept far away. However, both in PvE, and in PvP, the second the enemy gets in close we have to start moving and dodging fast and keeping the dodges timed perfectly while doing everything in your power to slow down or immobilize your opponent to get back to long range. In PvE, being hit can cause some good damage to you depending on the enemy, but in PvP, it can outright kill you depending on who you’re getting hit by (Thieves, Warriors, Guardians with the Conjured weapon build, etc).

True, but you also forgot a few things. Rangers in history whether in RL or in fantasy games tend to use ranged weapons, they also used melee weapons but mostly focused on ranged. In medieval days scouts would tend to have bows and daggers incase they had to kill a enemy witness, nowdays rangers have guns, I know the meaning of rangers, and know that they survive for days at a time in the wilderness alone, meaning they have to hunt, meaning they excell at trap making and marksmanship with a bow to hunt, yet we do not have that ability. I also recall that even if RL rangers never touched a bow, they werent forced to have animal companions…

I cant speak for wvw since Ive never done it, however that will change, saying we are the best long ranged class in wvw though sounds silly since rifle warriors tend to dominate. Ill go glass, thats how I roll, but I do think that we should get some of my longbow changes I posted about in my thread. Protect me sucks, only with a bear is it useable or when traited for pet survival. Longbow in spvp wouldnt be bad if longranged shot did same damage across all the ranges and possibly attacked as fast as it should.
