Only thing I know of is charm, and there is a limit to which animals can be charmed.
You can get all of the pets in the list (press K) save for Black Widow Spider, White Raven, Black Moa and Rainbow Jellyfish by charming them. the above listed is earned though playing gw1.
You can get all the pokemons… ermmmm pets, if it’s what you mean (except the GW1 reward that Vrog mentioned, but all of them are just reskins of existing pets so you won’t lose specific pet attacks).
