moment of clarity trait
When YOU (not your pet) interrupt an opponent, you and your pet gain a buff (~10s) to inflict 50% bonus damage on next attack. Interrupt means you need to see the “interrupt” text over their player to gain the benefit. Stunning them when they aren’t casting anything wont give you the interrupt. It does a 50% bonus, so if you crit for 3000 normally, you will hit for a crit 4500 on the next attack (assuming you crit). GS#5 (sometimes GS#4), SB#5, & LB#4 are all the interrupts we possess. Most people that use this use the GS for the simple combo of 5 then 2 for high burst damage. You will see the buff appear in the UI if you successfully interrupt. But it may be very quick because the next attack that “hits” (block, evade, etc will also consume the buff!) will use the buff.

in short; it is useless in anything by sPVP

I built a build around it

This is pretty much my favorite ranger grandmaster trait. It’s most useful in PvP/WvW, but it’s still very useful in situations outside of PvP. In fact, with SB/GS, and two canines, you can keep any non-stable opponent stun-locked for ~9s straight (2×1.5s weapon stuns + 2×2s KD + 1×2s fear) without breaking a sweat. That’s plenty of time to take down anything that isn’t stuffed to the brim with vitality since your pet will hit with 100% of it’s strikes during that window. You can also pair with high-crit pets if you just want all-out damage and don’t feel like you need the extra control (you won’t need it for general PvE).
Just remember to time your pet swaps, wolf’s fear, and weapon skills so that your weapon skills are interrupting actions 5s apart to exploit the damage boost. The pet KDs/fear won’t add the 50% bonus damage, so those should be filler interrupts between your SB and GS.
I’m working on capturing some video footage for you guys (never done it before, so it’s a learning experience) since many here think the only viable ranger builds involve traps, but in the meantime feel free to PM me in-game of you would like details and/or a demonstration.
I have another question . I am running with knight armor for the most part, but my chest piece is rampager . Would i get more out of some berserker instead? I like to keep some of my condi damage because it helps immensly with chasing down people due to flanking bleeds

ok this is how it works…
1. select moment of clarity.
2. drag it to your ability bar and set it to either pve/dungeon or spvp/wvw mode.
3. close your eyes and click it.
4. open your eyes and gaze in awe upon the magic list of other professions you should play.

Stun is one of the most powerful control effects in the game. This trait compliments shortbow and greatsword builds. I’m not ANET and any opinions I have are just that: opinions, however, I sure as heck don’t want a 150% stun/interrupt to hit me in wvw, followed by some wolf’s fear or knockdown and some kind of buffed ranger attack.
Serpent’s strike into hilt bash anyone? It’s fun to stun.

Yes, this trait does not only give the damage boost (which your pet will get untraited already for GS). The increased stunning/dazzing is the strong part because it allows you to control your enemies. If we would get ANY stunning/dazing utility I think this trait would become bonkers. It is already good right now because in players do a lot of stuff you can interrupt. In PvE it is a bit trickier because people aren used to the cast animation of every single mob in the game. Then again many of those are very long and easy to see. Generally you can Swoop in and interrupt the first thing the enemy does very often, then follow with a buffed Maul and maybe block his first move (the one after the one you interrupted) with 4. You just used the whole GS chain very efficiently while your target wasn’t able to do anything and are now free to go on autoattacking or switch to kiting mode with SB (here the focuss obviously is the improved damage of your pet with 5).
Also consider following changes next patch:
- more damage on Maul
- decreased cooldown on GS 5
Go figure how this effects this trait.

I wouldn’t use the trait without Technobabble, It doesn’t increase the Stun/Daze enough on GS/SB to matter.

Yeah with technobabble I imagine it could become a pretty strong trait, without that you really need to be a GS user for it to be worthwhile. I don’t really understand the logic behind this trait to be honest, Ranger doesn’t have enough daze/stun or interrupts for it to be justified as a grandmaster. It’s odd because Anet generally do a good job of providing traits that mesh well with each profession’s core boons and conditions. Moment of Clarity just seems off the mark.

Should also note that hitting for an added 50% damage with a shortbow is no execution blow. The duration increases are increased by 50% on 1 second daze/stuns, its just very underwhelming as a whole. Then to top it all off (as if we had thousands of sources of interupts) they put okittens cooldown on it. Salt in the wound
