ranger has 2(3 if you count dagger), however the wiki lists them as melee specialists. now this could be covered by the other specialization, or the insane hope that staff is melee and that vine-ray-thing was it’s immobilize.
anyone else agree/disagree? i only use bows/axes on ranger because they’re sort of needed in wvw but i prefer to fight in melee.
Most probably the staff will be a replacement of the longbow. Looks like they will cut down the range, and by the video it looks like an energy blast (damage) .
My bet is that druid will be a support class, that the ranger lacks of.
If you are looking for a pure melee class, Why don’t you try a warrior or guardian?
A lot of people have been hoping for hammers because of GW1. Thematically I think that’s a bit weird since we’re supposed to be these dexterous scout type fighters, but then again we also have a 12 foot long 2-handed sword option.

After the nerfing within the spirits they become completely useless. It’s proven that right now the only playable builds for ranger are signets and survival. Any other is just people talking while they don’t play anymore with the ranger or they play only static world bosses.

Sorry, AND TRAPPERS. Traps are awesome, although there are a lot of problems with Trapper’s Expertise trait that fires before touching ground messing up the stealth but traps is also a way to go for the melee ranger.
You see, this class is completely broken, all the skills has bugs and issues that break their usability.

Man what are you talking about ? I can’t even tell if you are trolling here. Spirit ranger is not useless, it might be less effective than DD ele right now but it is still a valid option, as it is condi survival, trapper ranger and BM ranger.

You have me lost here, traps don’t trigger mid air, once the trap touches the ground it has a small delay before stealth kicks in (this way you can place a spike trap right under your target and still get the stealth), those runes are not available in PvP for the moment.

Spirit Ranger is still very strong and viable in small fight skirmishes, 2v2s etc which is why you still see them in the competitive 2v2 tournaments.
Traps are awesome,
While they are fun and add to the over all play-style of the Ranger I feel that traps are a major eyesore design-wise they have very little ‘out of the box’ functionality, but can be traited to be improved to the standards that most profession expect out of their utility skills.
I always felt like the Axe should just be a melee weapon and they should introduce an additional ranged weapon for some classes (ranger and thief in particular) – something like a disc/chakram/boomerang.

that’s the feeling i get when i use axe, too. almost all of the skills associated with it are close quarters, or to keep your target in close quarters.
