Tooltip says it’s protection for ranger, but they said “protection for pet” during AMA. I guess tooltip just wasn’t updated.
Yeah, I’m guessing that’s either for the pet or the ICD would have to go way up.
I think its for pet only, i think protection on ranger has benn nerfed for a reason, we no longer have nature’s protection, bark skin has changed and wilderness survival traits are kinda focused for condi builds and builds that can mintain 90%+ hp.
I’m not sure new builsd give you more surviveblity compared to the poular – 2-0-6-6-0 builds.
Also keep in mind that after pach all the dps builds, condi and power will have much scaryer spikes now that stats are apart from trait lines, condis like poision stack in intensity and new combos opened up for all classes.
I haven’t read the other classes changes yet… but I think it would be pretty naive to think they aren’t also looking at some huge buffs. I wouldn’t get too carried away till we see how this all works in action :P

If that trait will be on beastmastery ok, but it will be on nature magic, a trait that point to protect you from damage and conditions, that trait will give you protection (and to your pet with the minor trait). No reason to make a trait only for your pet on a traitline that don’t focus on it but on the chance to swap boons with your pet.
I hope only that it will be changed in duration and/or cooldown.
My old unkillable ranger for pvp is Dead. I don’t think any ranger trait set-up comes close to the old unkillable build. I’ve posted it somewhere, but its a cleric build with survival utilities and bark skin. Double melee. It takes about 4 players to take me out, and since its such an unusual build, even good players struggle to kill you. You’ll almost never kill anyone though.
My philosophy with the old build was I could fight 2 players forever, 3 would bring me to 33% with bark skin, and a 4th could kill me. Had a lot of success with the build when I played it last. Just run onto the enemy home point before they cap, and stay there all game. I can near perma evade on the build with constant healing and amazing control for when things turn sour. Truly fun, and since I won’t be playing Ranger in HoT, I’m sort of glad its gone, so I won’t feel inclined to go back and play it.

If thats the case Nature Magic is a lot worse off then I thought and that trait shouldn’t be a GM.

You still get 50% up time of AoE weakness, with no condi duration, which is pretty much 50% incoming damage reduction assuming it doesn’t get cleansed because you covered it etc. Weakness is as good as protection and has the added benefit of reducing endurance gain by 50% on your foe.

I think it was around this month when they release a big balance patch last year..
I wasn’t expecting HoT till the mid summer at the earliest, but I don’t actually follow oe read any of the news so… what would I know :P

True, so true. It may seem boring to many people, but it does win matches.

Except that I was one of the first to use the cleric BM bunker 2 years ago in spvp and roaming, and afaik the first to put out a YouTube guide about it. I know everything about bunking as a cleric ranger, which is why I’m telling you it’s totally pointless. Not only is bunking no longer a part of any meta, but rangers were always the second rate sidepoint bunkers, now done better by any of the cele roaming specs. And this type of bunking is now done with shaman gear / settler ammy.
Chest thumping aside, I think the point is just because one has a different point of view, whether with experience or not, does not make a certain type of ranger pointless.

Oh awesome. Have they given an estimated date yet? I hope it is the next patch. Massive testing will be most excellent.
Engineer’s traits were still in developpement during that AMA and they’ll have to test all this a lot. I think we’ll get a beta phase first before it goes live.
