no trap ground targeting?
No, because it’s becoming baseline with all traps.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

do you have confirmation of this i didnt see where they mentioned it i checked 3 times
I kind of hope traps do lose ground targeting, it was always really anti-thematic anyway, you ‘set’ traps, you don’t toss throw them, and you especially don’t thrown them at people. I would prefer they get buffs that make them worth using as traps instead of being used like throwing stars.
Plus either way, they did state during the livestream that updated traps will have a time to ‘set’ themselves before they can be tripped, meaning throwing them at people wouldn’t work anymore anyway.
My bad, that was a mix up with what they said about Necromancer Wells and Guardian Consecrations losing their ground-targeting traits and becoming baseline. No actual confirmation from Anet whether this will apply to Ranger Traps, but it is a strong possibility it will be rolled in as well.

Yes they did confirm it during the livestream. The traps ground targeting will be baseline just like Necro’s wells.

Who said anything at all about reality? Thematicism has nothing at all to do with reality, and throwing traps does not line up with any theme connected with them.
It’s all a bit contradictory. They say they don’t want traps to be ‘grenades’, yet you throw them.
i always did like the option to simply place them, as in a fight the person is generally following you, so they always run into them. Throwing them was really only good for stealth as you could put them in a place that they wouldn’t get triggered. With the whole arming time thing that is no longer an issue.

They said they didn’t want them to feel like spells…
The problem is not that traps feels like spells, its that spells (like marks & wells) feel like traps. That leaves traps in a diffcult spot. I just hope they do balance them out so they are viable to use. It would be good if you could have multiple versions of each trap instead of just the one. Multiple instances would be really good and you would be able to trap like in GW1. We shall see.
The ‘arming time’ worries me a bit as it seems to be a change just for the sake of change. We will all have to see how they choose to ‘balance’ this, but right now adding more time between use and activation just feel like a bad trade off.
