pet mechanics need to be improved
I have a feeling these changes will be implemented in time. Anet is afraid to buff pets a lot in a short time because they don’t want a huge backlash from the community calling rangers OP. (lol@that happening within the next 6 months)

The way Anet buffs is small changes at a time so they get it fixed and don’t have to change it. Anet said they DO NOT do the “whackamole” system because it usually takes longer to actually get things balanced!
PS: the “whackamole” system involves making drastic changes everytime you try to balance something.

While I agree overall, your original statement is somewhat false. In terms of melee pets, birds now miss the most followed by felines unless your opponent runs in very small circles.
Also ranger is the only class that can´t benefit from standing on highground because then the pet can´t do anything when you are ontop of keep and the pet does more damage than the ranger usually.
You have a skill called “guard”. Give it a try.
What I personally hate the most is pet staying in aoe dmg until it’s dead. It can’t make two steps to a side to avoid it. And if you call your pet off to save it from aoe dmg the pet just runs straight to you over every trap and lava fields just to die anyway.
The sad true is, that in situations where the pets are needed, they are simply useless. It’s some nice help while killing normal monsters, but you can kill them without pet too. But in any boss fight, where you actually need the half or the 30% of your power, the pets are like 1 hit victims.
In pvp, I don’t see that big improvement about pets hitting moving target, the hit rate of the pets is still so low that it barely means any threat.
The pets are just AI, and lets face it, not that well programmed. It will, sadly, always limit the players.

I mean, if I’m getting called OP for running an evasion tank and the person I’m fighting can’t even figure out that my bird is killing them because they don’t kite it, imagine how much people will cry if pets have proper pathing and our direct weapon damage doesn’t suck?
