protect me rework
Pets? The little bubbles of dumbness that tag along with us? Oh crap! Are those our pets? A rock would be a better pet. At least I could throw it and it would make a decent effect.
We already have 1 way of direct damage mitigation. I don’t think we need 2 of those.
I read through some suggestions and I’m giving my vote and hopes for rework into taunting people that attack you.
We don’t really have space for 2 damage mitigation utilities and having 2 that are nothing but variations of themselves is old-fashioned.
A new flavor into PvP world would be just the thing I could imagine.
I just want Protect Me to give 6s stability
- Stability without a 1s cast time (unlike Strength of the Pack and Signet of the Wild)
- It’ll always serve a purpose, even with a dead pet
Protect me: For 6 seconds, you pet absorbs all incoming damage and disabling effects you receive, and gains protection.
So, you effectively gain stability, and your pet gains protection in order to absorb more damage.

FYI, Protect Me already transfers condition damage on the Ranger to the pet.
At least, the pet needs Protection and the Ranger needs Retaliation, that way, when traited it would be quite a good skill.
What if all the damage received will, after the duration of protect me, causes a huge aoe damage proportional to the damage the pet receives. And if dies, that damage soaked up doubles. It won’t be too op smart people would be careful of how much dmg they deal to the ranger, and it will punish dumb people who will also of course qq in the forums.

My experience in game is that your pet only takes the direct dmg. You can still get immobed or cced through it. It’s still a pretty good utility. Especially when traited. 48 sec stunbreak. Provides swiftness and regen to help heal through condis. Also like other invuln skills popping your main heal during the 6 sec is basically a sure thing. Condi clear as well with the runes.
All the utility shouts need to be re-worked. Protect me is only ok when running a bear pet, but even then, any f1-4 button will reset the skill as well as using another shout.
Any skill/trait which kills the pet for our benefit should never have existed in the first place.
If protect me were re-vamped, I’d like to see it grant resistance.
Last time I played, which was 8 months ago, Protect Me also transferred the condition damage to the pet, so you took no damage at all and the pet took everything. The conditions were not transferred, just the damage.
