i was wondering if anyone knows what are new staff weapon will be like.will it be like a fighting staff or just another staff to cast spells like ele and guard?

Based on the datamined staffs on reddit, there’s two new staff skins that have been introduced – one that’s basically a bo staff, and one that’s rather spiky. Apparently, the spiky one is the druid staff and the bo staff is the thief spec staff.

As far as usage goes, it would appear that druids are a type of caster.

I’m going to go with “spellcaster/support class.” I can pretty much guarantee that it won’t improve the ranger’s situation in PvE, though it might come in handy for organized wvw/pvp groups.

I’m gonna say to hold off on that judgement, Quark. From what we’ve heard from the devs (including Colin Sohandsome himself) it appears they want healers and tank type roles to be more present in the game, and are using new enemy mechanics as well as the Elite specs to help involve those sorts of things.

Ranger needs to be able to contribute more to a group so a support spec is good.
Okay. Yes. I agree with that.

The kind of support Druid is is a newly relevant healer archetype?
Well. I guess it could be.

…But, so far the defensive-support side of Ranger seems to lean alot on Regen and Regen-like effects. Even if they do successfully manage to give it impact, that sort of thing isn’t exactly bite-your-nails exciting on the gameplay level.

Honestly, this game’s better offerings in that role are short duration strong effects, not long duration weak effects. It’s hard to get that on other classes without stepping on Guardian’s toes.

I think it would be fair to say that Guard has stepped on Ranger’s toes already, so eye for an eye, eh?

If druid is to have some healing, I just hope it has a trait that makes regen heal for 100% more, I think that would be enough really. Then focus on AoE, conditions and control effects.

Well officially we only know that we’ll get a staff, at least 1 skill will be ranged and pet will still be part of the druid’s gameplay.

Now my speculation/hope is that druid will focus on support, we’ll probably get some AoE CC with the staff skills (blind would be great) and my guess on utilities is Consecration skills (nature focus instead of light compared to guardian’s and be damage buffs + direct damage instead of guardian’s defensive buffs + condition damage), that way the staff skills can focus on CC and the utilities focus on buffs, making the “ranger” much more desirable in all aspects of the game.

I agree Belzebu, but I also think this is a good opportunity for them to make the pets, you know, actually good. If pets get some kind of damage buff, better attack tracking, and an upgrade to the AI they work with, a CC focused weapon would essentially hold enemies down while the pet beats the hell out of them, and it’d help make up for lost damage by going for a supporty role.

That’s just my own speculation. It’d feed in to the druid providing support though, so you could do that even while solo.

Yeah, I didn’t mention about pets because I can’t imagine what will be the druid mechanic, I know it will involve our pets for sure, but what will be the trick I’m clueless.
