question for all rangers that love dungeons
I like ranged pets better for dungeons because even bears die easily. I go glass cannon build with CoF gear Power, prec, cond damage. I’m pretty good at dodging attacks and I pretty much just make sure I don’t take aggro, or stand behind my pet if I do.
I use sbow/lbow, and mainly just flank w/ quickness for bleeds.
Ya i was thinking of going full berserker gear/jewelry, just wondering how hard it is to survive in that
If you are having problems at bosses that take a lot of Dodging/Kiting (lupicus?) then get 15 Points in wilderness survival for passive 50% stam regen, protection buff when dodging and vigor buff on healing skills.
These 15 Points work like a charm for us, add in a stunbreaker like natural reflex or Signet of Renewal and almost nothing can ever bring you in Danger in Dungeons. If you cant get used to dodging aoes and kite when you get aggro, then more vit/though wont help you much anyway.
It can be pretty tricky. You might consider putting on full Berserker armor with Knight jewelery for the extra Toughness.
Jewelery is the easiest thing to swap out or replace, so I would recommend that.

Depends on the dungeon. Some dungeons places alot of cond dam on you and hard to avoid them so either have a party member that have the ability to remove them for you or use grab some vit. If you’re in a duneon, as long as you’re alive, you are contributing dps, no matter how low so its a better choice to be able to survive than output high damage. Sustained dps > high damage if you get downed frequent and another person has to come pick you up. That’s a lost of 2 dps.
Now IF you are good and many are, where you actually survive longer as a glass than the other party members, then by all means remain glass.
Thnx for the suggestions, not 80 yet so im not quite sure how ill do, although im not very interested in arah because of the long runs for low reward so i shouldnt have to much of a problem with endurance

I used to believe “dead dps = 0 dps”, but you are completely right. Downed dps = lost of 2 dps (plus the chance of getting the rezer dead)
And I for one, absolutely hate being the person standing in the back, running when I see some mob getting close to me, while my teammates get their hands dirty (our pets doesn’t work as meat shields in dungeons, and our teammates shouldn’t be our “pets”)
I’m not gonna make any run twice as fast for being full zerker, so I prefer lossing some dps, but having a more enjoyable experience.
That said, without getting used to dodge when you have to, no vitality nor toughness is gonna save you :p
I would say at first you should spec a little defensively, cause I’m assuming you wouldn’t know how to dodge and kite dungeons you haven’t done yet, timing wise at least. Then once you get the hang of it you can gradually increase your damage specs. As for pets it really depends on the role you will be playing in the group your running with. Bears for me just don’t work too well in dungeons(with the exception of black bear since I like the weakness). I really like the dogs and moas. I’m constantly swapping since in dungeons their primary purpose is for their F2.
I’ve been putting Search and Rescue on my bar for dungeons. Used with QZ, it revives people very fast. I honestly believe Anet wanted it to be a defining Ranger skill but people don’t want to “waste” a spot for it. If specced into BM, the “pet heals for more” also applies to S&R it seems. I have gotten many compliments for using it. A lot of non-Rangers don’t even know about it.
I use Search and Rescue in dungeons as well with my build over Pain Inverter
I find my healing field is quite useful as well.

Theoretically, if you understand the dungeon mechanics, you can get away with full zerkers and avoid everything.
In practice, that’s not gonna happen. Even the best of us will sometimes slip and get hit.
I personally use a mix of Rabid/Carrion gear for the toughness/vit. Does it help? Not always, as the big hits from some bosses (Alpha, Lupicus) still 1-shots me. But it does allow me to survive longer in most situations. And as a poster above me said, a downed person means 2 people not DPSing.
