ever since the longbow implemented stealth, and the remorseless trait remake, ive been wondering if anet plans to give us more stealth.

i really want a utility stealth skill that allows us to disengage or ambush…
maybe a survival skill -“camoflauge” or something, where you and your pet gains stealth for 10 sec if you are out of combat, or gains stealth for 3 sec if you are already in combat.

dont think that would be too OP or anything.. but definately would give us the ability to get in position for an attack or gtfo if it goes badly. (2 stealth skills isnt asking for too much is it? considering we have a trait thats supposed to complement stealth)

what do you guys think?

Do you mean the ranger shout? Because Guard only turns your pet invisible (when it actually worked)

Op wants a stealth for ranger…which is kinda OP considering how many disengage we already have…not to mention signet of wild and regeneration stacks.

Zerker build is pretty bad for tornument, imo. There are other class who can do that job better, and the only viable torny build seem to be spirit ranger atm. I have yet to seen any BM or trapper in any pro torny, which kinda sucks.

But it’s the meta, and good players adopt and survive until the next meta.

Meta and viable are 100% different things, trapper builds work INSANELY well in the meta, why they aren’t used more I have no idea why, it completely baffles me…
And zerker works REALLY well in tournies if you play it as a ranged harass IE stay away from points and weaken the defender from far away and make them either leave point or die.

Granted zerker ranger is kitten in current meta (like all zerker builds right now).

Actually, a stealth utility skill for rangers would be awesome. The way I would see it implemented though is “remain stealth while not moving.” That way you could have a pack of 5 rangers on a ridge all stealth like and then ambush a group. This would work in PvP situations really well but also could be used when out soloing PvE. I know there are a lot of times in Orr I wish I could just hide and let a big group walk by.

Plus doing it this way keeps it from being over powered in combat because you have to stay still. And it fits in with the whole wilderness survival theme of the ranger. Very cool!

Unless it’s really long duration and you like camping meta behind corners meta, thats what enemy teamspeak will sound like.

The part about 5 rangers stealthing and surprising someone is interesting but no one will ever try it. I’ve only spawned 1 lunar wolf in my entire gw2 career bc there’s almost never more than 2 rangers on any given map. Lol its just the community mindset, they abhor a ranger. They push rangers away.

If it’s some sort of skill you can activate with the cooldown starting the second you exit it, I don’t see it being a problem. Hunter’s shot to running for 2 seconds to the skill would result in an unpredictable Ranger location. They’d have to start sweeping for Rangers along with Thieves and Mesmers (though it’d be easier to sweep for Rangers then because we’d be unable to move at all)

could be a survival skill just because its habbit is like a survival thing. Also in our trais there is camouflage give to us “Hide in Plain Sight”
But if this should be implemented which one has to be dropped of?

Maybe it’s an idea for a new shout sortiment that replaces the old but then i think shouts should support pets&player but maybe not.

All in all, it’s a good idea. Considering that a ranger/hunter needs camouflage in real life it would fit the ranger class well. But not too much stealth, he is no thief!

@Chopps PvPers (myself included) would TOTALLY sit there in stealth waiting on point for the poor little bursty roamer to come to die, er I mean cap the point… I mean seriously, just take 2 traps, entangle, healing spring (or TU) and camo and prey on the poor kittens who are going to second guess your presence every time, it can force them to send 2 people to back cap and if you’re stealthed…. Well just wait and steal it back. It’d give rangers a really good buff in WvW and sPvP

Situational? My kitten , you could use it in PvP to break target and refresh remorseless, duck around an object hit stealth, jump back into the fray. The juking potential would be amazing, and if it had a short enough CD (hopefully around 20-30s) it’d be really useful for survivability in combat, you’d have to be tricky with it granted, but oh it’d work very nicely.

I cant be the only one thinking how nice it would be to have a utility to cleanse (other than SoR), with the stealth rounding it off to be a very useful and diverse ability.

The only problem is that the game does’t count camouflage skills as stealth in regards to Remorseless. I’m sure this is mainly due to the fact that NPC bought kits can break the trait if done otherwise (Ash Legion Spy kit). the difference between stealth and camo is the ability to move. I’d very much like another stealth skill a utility would be nice, but can’t be implemented easily since every class has the same number. It would become a matter of what to remove. I’d personally rather see it on a melee weapon.

Hornet Sting would be a cool skill to do this with since its functionality is questionable and could use a revamp anyway. Remove the evasive affect of the skill and allow it to stealth the player at the end of the leap, but using Monarch’s Leap would still cancel the stealth. Adds options in allowing sword to have a disengage making up for its auto attacks rooting in place but it can also still be used offensively with Remorseless. I think the trades would remain rather balanced and benefit the sword over all without breaking it.

That way you can fire get a possible daze/stun and have your few seconds on stealth to reposition or attack. Currently the SB#5 has a daze/stun option, so adding it in to hunters shot would be a comparible skill.

Sorry yes I did misunderstand. I thought you were proposing a change to hunters shot. My bad. However in light of this I would hazard that the proposed utility skill is, well kinda pants? 2 secs of stealth is far too short a time imo to be usefull. No real time to reposition, agro dropping would be nice but many many times AI will simply re-agro you when close to them.

And for 40 seconds, a 2 second skill time is a skill I would ignore. Even with the 3 condi purging. Primarily because signet of renewal draws ALL conditions from you and allies in 60 secs untraited. How about instead;

“Gain stealth and apply swiftness to you, your pet and allies”
Stealth: 3 seconds (player only)
Swiftness; One stack
Recharge Time: 40 seconds (or whatever = balanced)

This way it becomes a mobility skill, and a party based buff skill. Much more desirable imo.

You have to consider that the Ranger is not suppose to be a stealth profession, in the same light that the Thief and Mesmer are. That’s why the few stealth skills the Ranger has, comes with downsides to them. Hunter’s Shot needs to connect to a target before the stealth triggers, and it puts you in combat. Forage provides stealth from an improvised weapon, meaning you have to pick it up first. And ‘Hide in Plain Sight’ doesn’t remove the stun effect from you. Of curse a 3 seconds stealth skill with a party wide buff would be more desirable, because it’s simply more powerful, but it doesn’t fit with the way the Ranger applies stealth. It would be too accessible, and force the recharge time to be 60+ seconds.

Anybody else notice: That the jaguar stealth ability is a puff of leaves and then stealth (very nature esque) and the longbow 3 is a whif of smoke (ala thief.)

Always wondered why we didn’t get the jaguar animation.

What to remove? what about shouts? if the stealth skill would provide the boon also to your pet then it can be a shout. A weapon would force you to use it to gain camouflage as the longbow does now.

@kasama: you hit a point. ranger != thief. So the “stealth” skill has to be more different. As saderic wrote it could be a real camouflage.Probably a survival skill (because it’s more a survival thing than a shout) and rearrange the zephyr to the shouts and remove the moste useless shout?

@lexandro: though the aspect of having less support skill than other have I would not recommend to give this skill a boon like swiftness for allies.

In this way you’ll receive protection for the duration because you cannot move or should not. also you gain invisible for others but remain in combat. isn’t that an idea like a ranger can use camouflage/stealth?

I suppose it comes down to a difference of opinion on how stealth as a mechanic is percieved for Rangers. You are thinking of it in a defensive role (hence prot), where as I am seeing it as an evasive/mobility role (hence swiftness).
