Salutations folks . Working on some theory crafting and I’m curious how melee based rangers are applying swiftness without the shout trait or trappers runes.
any insight to this would be most helpful.
Jaxx
Since the Signets affect ranger without traitng most People use SotH for Melee ranger.
If you don’t want to do that you can still do the same thing Mesmers do,
use Rune of the Centaur, buy an Endless Tonic and use the fact that the Transform back counts as a heal. If it’s not for Permanent Swiftness you can equip Warhorn from time to time… Can’t think of any other way…beside +25% Movement runes of course.
If you mean for WvW, I always take SotH with melee. Alternatively you could take a bird and just use SotH out of combat. Raven is a pretty decent pet.
Travelers doesn’t affect your pet so it’s not ideal, but an option.
Well. With some of the changes since I’ve been gone id like to get rid of the shout trait and quit running guard. I just want to make sure I can keep swiftness up a majority of the time.
I use warhorn.
Is this for your condi-regen build hyjaxxx?
If so I think your only options are warhorn or traveller runes.
Yeah, I’m doing some variations on my re-port build, I’m wanting to get rid of the shout based portion of the build. But keeping the mobility up is paramount for small man skirmish.
I’m not wanting to switch out my weapons,so the change will have to be trait\skill based..or maybe some rune changes
Well, if it was a power build I would suggest warhorn with Pack runes, and Tail Wind trait supplementing combat speed.
Condition build though, I don’t see getting around SotH out of combat, with Tail Wind supplementing in combat speed. I myself run runes of the traveler on my condi survival build, but that wouldn’t work on a trap build.

For in combat swiftness with power melee I have a set of runes of the pack on my Zerker gear
If I’m playing condi I’m using SotH or owl pet
If you weapon swap a lot tail wind in skirmishing is also a good source
So i suppose it depends are you think condi melee or power melee

I’d give up swiftness before krait runes though. I think you’ll just have to suck it up.
The theory crafter in me fails to believe there isn’t a work around. So if anyone has some thoughts let me know!

Your options are:
I believe that’s it for the access to swiftness and 25% movement speed. Not terrible, there’s certainly classes with a lot less access (namely guardian where all of it’s swiftness is tied into defensive builds w/ shouts and staff).
Unless you choose either 25% movement speed, you’ll probably have to choose two of them. You could do well in a trapper build with Tail Wind and Quickshot, having a low downtime of swiftness if you swap regularly. Like I said above, my zerker build relies on Tail Wind and warhorn for it’s swiftness. My condi survival build (2/0/6/6/0) uses traveler runes because it doesn’t have any of the forms of swiftness. You’ll have to sacrifice something somewhere, like I did with my bleed durations, to get movement speed. Whether it’s your runes, utility slot or weapon choice is up to you.
Your best bet is to swap in SotH out of combat to move around and rely on Tail Wind when fighting. You can supplement it with a bird, warhorn or shortbow.
Its very easy.
Rune of the pack+tailwind minor trait = 100% swiftnessuptime during fights(i use it in sotf build so thats extra 30% duration). Out of combat i use sigil of swiftness on one of my weapon(with same build setup ofc) you can stack up to 4.5 min swiftness with that, very easy to manage 100% uptime swiftness while roaming.
BTW, 2 birds +tailwind also give fair amount of swiftness while in combat.
