rune of the defender
I like using them in a power build to make Healing Spring a decent selfish heal, plus stacking regen on the GS block from ranged attacks.
This rune is very interesting, but on most professions it falls a bit short. Thinking about it, yes this rune could be great for ranger. Especially in wvw, if you wanna be more tanky. Just keep in mind, this looses 175 power compared to the max power builds. But the survivability should make up for it.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Hmm I really want to test that out with engi med kit. A lot of the “on heal” bonuses proc just by swapping to the med kit, being able to pop aegis every 10 seconds without even using a skill would be ridiculously strong.

wow, those are really good, you get aegis, you essentially get a second heal when you block with GS, and you get quite a bit of healing power. How did i not know those existed…

They are actually pretty fun on a Guardian (mace and focus = pretty serious blockage = makes for front line support kitten easy). Personally I like the trapper runes better.

I’ve always wanted to do a lb/gs dps oriented zealots build and decided to just make some zealot armor to get myself started in that direction and I made these runes to try them out. It made taking camps very easy because I could just pop troll unguent and get that instant 4k heal back + the troll ticks that kept me at full health for the duration. It definitely helped me sustain while fighting a DPS guard in WvW but I would have won with or without the runes so it was kind of hard to judge. That was the issue with fighting the other roamer it didn’t really matter, albeit there were a few teams where having that extra 4k hp was appreciated that made the fight go from “close” to “not close” from 1 block.
Not that I would complain, I just think the PvP side of the game has been cele-tank/sustain for way too long and prefer to see team comps like yours succeed.

China: triple cele + bunker guard (or thief) + thief
All those top teams going to WTS have triple cele and 2 dps for the most part. Even the runner ups in EU and NA followed that.
TCG (EU): triple cele + thief + fresh air ele
THM (NA): triple cele + shatter mesmer + thief

Hahaha now I’m developing a bad habit of thinking my troll unguent is a straight up heal instead of the heal ticks. I’m going to have a hard time when I take these runes off :/

you could even use the Soimoths plasma to tigger all the effects granting Aegis on plasma consume for a very heftly Defence+heal buff, use in tandum of rune6’ and then plasma to trigger extra regen or Even better Eat plasma first before Rune6’ triggers and gain aegis twice if you time it well enough.
though if your running a x,x,6,x,x with a gs the block on that will stack regen for you , rather than a offensive weapon use it for its movement+defence and attack with Axe+T using condi gear+boon duration of , 0,2,6,6,0 Sotf and posion master/barkskin

Can I be honest and just say that with you and Supcutie on the same team, I kind of just ignored the rest of your comp? lol.
Part of my brain just blocks out all of the celestial builds at this point and just bases a team comp on the remaining members, and for whatever reason your lack of thief made me single your comp out as different. So yeah, up until that breakdown, I though I had hated the cele meta as much as a person could hate it, but I guess I was wrong because I somehow hate it more now haha.

I have been toying around with defender runes and it has been good fun. I struggle a bit with the Healing Spring because I have been using nothing but Troll Unguent for 2 years. It may sound odd but I’m so used to popping the heal really early on and now that I can heal up fast with sword & GS leaps the full heal tends to go to waste. On top of that my playstyle involves lots of bouncing and kiting, staying in one spot to heal feels blasphemous!

yes its a boon so its effected by duration boosts as it grants regen + your bonuses ontop during its Duration calculation.

I found the runes do better on builds that doesn’t rely on blocks or have random blocks (ranger gs, guardian, pu mesmer). Coz you have more control over when the heal on the rune procs. The runes are probably best paired with troll unguent coz you’re getting that gradual heal with the burst heal.

I’m afraid I’m forever stuck with the -40 or -36 condi food because of the massive condi spam that is going on. I suppose I could just pop the minus condi food when I face condi users but it gets pretty expensive to spam foods like that. You on the other hand gots a lot more healing going on so I guess that evens it out.

I had a go at throwing this rune set of my apothecary gear last night i had some pretty good results. I was almost unkillable 1v1, fights against other bunker builds it was a fight to the first person to make a mistake and held out 1vx ok. having that extra 4-5k heal on trolls is quite use full getting a little spike heal at the start can be a life saver
I not sure weather i want to use these runes on my rabid set (krait runes currently), my zerker set (pact) or my celestial (hoebrak) but it is worth thinking about

Basic Regeneration heals for 130 + 0.125 x healing power. Meaning with zero healing power, just blocking will give you a boon. May not seem important, but while it may cause you to “waste” a strong heal, you will still keep getting regeneration. Which will heal you.
This way, while not being the best of outcomes, it will give you some HP still.

Dolyak runes are horrible.
healing is 43 + 0.023 x healing power.
meaning at 2000 healing power you get 89 hp per second healing. That is worse then having regeneration boon, which is 130 at the very lowest.

i know dat runes since a while, i think that_shaman datamined them at wintersday and i was surprised that they are now available as i saw prysins post about them.
I would maybe run Defender runes on a cleric or zealot build or better with the Forsaken stats (which do not exist at lv 80), but i couldnt made one.
What bothers me is, that they use the same rune icon as rune of fire.

I don’t know what you’re trying to argue about. The major heal far outweighs the 2s regen from a guardian aegis. Besides, regen is so easily accessible on a ranger, that 2s regen is so insignificant. Thus – when a guardian makes you pre-proc the major heal… it sucks.

its not as easy as you make it sound ,
1 major source is healing spring a on point Regen with a low spike heal, stay on point for entire duration.
2 is a trait with a low base regen that only triggers when hit below 75% for a short boon duration.
3 is a grandmaster shout it is only effective when triated with Natures bounty to extend regen by 33% and it still needs quite a lot of healing power to be effective (aka not worth all the points you allicated and you have to build around the trait)
4. furn wolf , base regen 12secs? (1.1k regen) 100 ono hps per second sacrifices a Good Pet with CC.
the only reason these defender runes work so well on ranger is because of Natures bounty 33% (10% boon duration) from being 2 in nature magic one trait and 2 points to gain a long term regeneration and this runes gives the Boon without Sacrificing so many trait points or a Vunrabile heal skill and then the result is this Rune + Heal as one + Valk/Zerk gear with 4,0,6,4,0 makes a Epic Melee Evade point attacker Gs/ A+A or Gs/ A+D .
and i don’t see the point of stacking regen ontop of other regen giving skill while using this nature bounty+trait set up.
this rune allows you to defend which i find much more effective on a Ranger because of the way it can set up its Traits to gain Better Benifit of the Regen boon.
