[s]Longbow permanent Fury[/s] is impossible
I just did a small test.
Red Moa actually only gives 14 seconds of Fury, so 21 seconds with Concentration Training. And yes, you still need to be in combat mode for Concentration Training to work.
21 seconds every 25 seconds is still pretty close to being permanent.
Furious Grip (Skirmishing 15 point trait)
9 seconds of Fury every 9 seconds (10 seconds if you don’t use Soldier Runes)
Not sure if it’s a bug, but it lasts 5 seconds regardless of your boon duration. The fact that you could make it 100% uptime with boon duration makes me think it isn’t a bug.
You can however get 100% fury uptime with Furious Grip and sword/horn + sword/torch + offhand training trait (reduces Call of Wild cooldown to 28 sec). Start with sword/torch equipped.
- Attack and swap to sword/horn – 0 sec elapsed, 5 sec fury remaining
- Use Call of Wild (15 sec fury) – 0.5 sec elapsed, 19.5 sec fury remaining
- Swap to sword/torch – 10 sec elapsed, 15 sec fury remaining, 18.5 sec CoW CD
- Swap to sword/horn – 20 sec elapsed, 10 sec fury remaining, 8.5 sec CoW CD
- Use Call of Wild – 29 sec elapsed, 16 sec fury remaining
- Swap to sword/torch – 30 sec elapsed, 20 sec fury remaining, 27 sec CoW CD
- Swap to sword/horn – 40 sec elapsed, 15 sec fury remaining, 17 sec CoW CD
- Swap to sword/torch – 50 sec elapsed, 10 sec fury remaining, 7 sec CoW CD
- Swap to sword/horn – 60 sec elapsed, 5 sec fury remaining
At this point it repeats from the beginning, just with 60 sec added. Though in practice, most fights are over long before you reach 60 sec.
You can’t respond instantaneously to the swap times, so you’ll probably have some brief periods when you have no fury. But it’s close enough. Some boon duration (which does extend fury from Call of the Wild) will help eliminate those gaps.
You don’t need two swords to do this either. Equip sword/horn in one weapon set, and just put the torch in the other weapon set. The game will automatically make that sword/torch. It won’t even interfere with the sword attack timings when you swap. If you wanted to, you could go with axe/torch or something for the second set.
You’re right, Furious Grip only gives 5 seconds of Fury.
Both the wiki and the in-game tooltip for the trait are wrong.
So, the closest we can get to re-living the bug after it’s fixed is:
Red Moa with Concentration Training (while in combat) and some Rampage as One added onto it.

How about we all take a step back and just say:
Full fury up time is what a longbow needs with out having to use anything else.
As really…full fury up time is not suddenly making Long Bow OP!!! Please fix as soon as possible ;/
Its more like:
Ok so you have a bow and now you got permi fury..nothing to see here.
Wish they would just leave it as is haha.
Over 15k Achievement points. Over 550 WXP ranks on Ranger. 5 legendaries. Dungeon Master.
I do hope I know a little bit about playing GW2….
My perma fury made me realize that my longbow just barely becomes viable when my Rapid Fire is literally hitting for double damage compared to how it normally hits.
So, since there is going to be a fix implemented, maybe the devs should make rapid fire better. Really, that’s the biggest thing holding the weapon back.

Auto-attack has higher dps than rapid fire I think lol
These are the ways for the Ranger to get Fury:
Rampage as One
20 seconds of Fury every 120 seconds
Great Elite, fun and used for skillfull play
This skill is out of the question for permanent Fury, but it might be useful in combination with other sources.
Call of the Wild (warhorn 5)
15 seconds of Fury every 35 secondsUnfortunately this requires a switch to another weapon set, which has a 10 second cooldown, so it’s not useful to provide permanent Fury to the Longbow.
Love the warhorn concept but it’s too underwhelming at the moment, especially with the endurance nerf you really need to carry a dagger for more dodge or greatsword at least.
Beastmaster’s Bond
10 seconds of Fury every 60 seconds (if pet is below 50% health)This isn’t a reliable source and it’s nowhere close to being permanent. It also requires a trait in Marksmanship, which is not going to happen in a Longbow build.
enough said
Furious Screech (Red Moa)
1514 seconds of Fury every 25 secondsThe interesting thing about Red Moa is if you get Concentration Training (10 points into Nature Magic), it would increase the
1514 second of Fury to2421 seconds. This could be considered a permanent source for Fury in a longbow build. However, it requires micromanagement and has all problems that come with pet based skills. I think Concentration Training also requires you to be in combat, so it’s not useful to prepare Fury before combat starts.
The damage from the moa is the main problem, gaining fury for an unfair dps trade off is like saying, “I’ll give you a $10 if you give me $1”.
Furious Grip (Skirmishing 15 point trait)
95 seconds of Fury every 9 seconds (10 seconds if you don’t use Soldier Runes)
It’s possible to get permanent Fury if you run a Dual Longbow build. You have to give up the secondary weapon weapon for it though. I don’t think it’s worth it, but it’s there. However, the Longbow has two channeling skills (Barrage and Rapid Fire), so it’s certainly possible to lose Fury mid-channel.(the tooltip is lying, so no permanent Fury) This trait also requires combat mode, so you can’t get Fury before getting into combat.I wish there was a less bothersome option and I wish so many of our traits didn’t require combat mode, but we’re stuck with
either going Dual Longbow orRed Moa with Concentration Training.
Obviously this all isn’t something they are oblivious to. Grouch specifically mentioned they are looking for more ways to add fury to ranger. I agree the current situation is OP but in its own right it’s accidentally proved that even with perma fury the LB on a ranger isn’t OP.
The one thing I felt was a bit ridiculous was saying that “80% of players in the 2v2 tournament were rangers”. Don’t tell me half a story, how many of that 80% were spirit and if you asked the ones who are how many would say they enjoy it? I don’t mean to take a shot at you but seriously, dps ranger or any class for that fact is soooo much more fun than a support build that doesn’t show off numbers. 80+% is too high, nerf the health the spirit ranger elite gives to balance those numbers.
I think measuring how many ppl play a class is a terrible way of concluding if ppl like the class. If you put effort into a class, you’ll likely play it even if you slowly start hating it ever more. (I still play ranger in tournaments even though I hate the direction the ranger class is going, simply because it’s the only class I have prepared for pvp)
What about, when your pet dies, you get 20s of fury? OMG! A trait that would actually make sense!!! A ranger getting angry about their pet kicking the bucket!

We’ll have full uptime then in WvW!
What I would like to know is if 80% of people in 2v2 where ranger’s, how many of them use longbow?
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it’s gone.
Concentration Training also requires you to be in combat, so it’s not useful to prepare Fury before combat starts.
its worse than that… (atleast when i tested it a few weeks ago) the pet needs to be in combat; meaning if you swap into moa and use furious screech without the moa hitting anything/getting hit then concentration training wont take effect (despite you being in combat)
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]

Wow! I love this idea!
You kill my pet, I get angry… VERY ANGRY! And for a time, I can make up the damage potential lost by my pet’s death.
+1

You’re completely right. Concentration Training is extremely bugged. Permanent Fury is impossible.
