Hello there! I just recently got back to GW2 after a long hiatus. I was a Warrior, and I love her but soloing world content on her is annoying and I’ve read on forums that Rangers are good for soloing world content. I also want to be able to run dungeons on my ranger. Any suggestions?
Atm, I run viper set
axe / torch
shortbow.

Pretty much only one build fits that set well, unless you intend on using Druid.

As someone who have never played Ranger and have limited knowledge of GW2, mind explaining the reasoning behind this build, or how to play it?

From the build I see that it’s a condi build? I thought mobs in open world die too quickly for condi to be effective? What is the “priority skills”? A/T if possible, then switch to SB or main SB and switch to A/T? What skills should I use the reduced CD from Quick Draw for?

Also since I want to try doing 100% map completion, I think I’ll need the +25% movement signet. Which utility can I sacrifice for it? That druid trait that gives Swiftness when not debuffed is tempting, but I don’t know if a whole specialization is worth keeping a utility slot.

Pardon my newbie (and obvious to many) questions. Thanks!

Everyone was a newbie.

Yes, it’s our best (thus far) condi build and you are somewhat correct that Power builds in general rock open world because you kill so much faster. This changes when you have groups of enemies or ones with a very large health pool.

The priority skills are bonfire and poison volley. You make use of Quick Draw to fire each one off twice before switching weapons again and just use everything else off CD, making sure you use those two skills as the 1st one after swapping weapons.

It’s pretty flexible though, don’t get too caught up in meta garbage, just run around with a shortbow bleeding and poisoning mobs out and when get close, swap weapons and double bonfire them for armageddon.

If you want 100% map as efficiently as possible, you don’t need max DPS really, you want maximum mobility, try this. It’s enough damage, defense and healing to get you through easy as and a lot of mobility with staff/gs.

That build seems wayyy nicer. ATM, I’m doing 100% completion. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m actually liking this build more, though I’m confused over the role of Staff. I see that GS #3 allows you to leap, and Staff #3 allows you to “teleport”. So am I supposed to use these 2 skills while travelling, and using Shouts on CD for the Swiftness?

And to clarify, it seems this build doesn’t do a lot of condition damage, so I should be aiming for stats like Berserker? The previous build has Viper gear.

Staff is ONLY for movement in world completion. Otherwise spam maul as much as possible when fighting. It hits five targets and does good damage.

You can get some exotic karma berserker armor for “free” if you need/want it. Although viper has enough power and precision it probably doesn’t matter much.

The previous build, the condi one – is meant more for Fractal/Raids. No doubt it can be used Open World. It’s ideal everything. Viper gear takes a while to make and is expensive, even just exotic. You can get away with carrion/rampagers etc. for Open World using the same build as you acquire vipers. Don’t stress on that. It’s also more squishy.

As for Staff/GS that is power based yeah; GS is power. Staff is support/power but you don’t use Staff for the DPS. Also Open World; take Nature Stride, the movement bonus is too good not to take. As for gear tbh you can get zerker/soldiers/etc. for cheap. Again, no need to max DPS if you want more toughness/vit that’s fine for Open World. If lazy like me I just leave on my Viper/mixed condi gear when I go a Staff/GS or GS/Longnbow for some easier clears some places. You have more than enough power/preci from it.
