Q:
some "gmaing mouse" questions...
Hi!
IMHO for GW2 you dont really need a “Gaming Mouse”.
Main Weapon Skills
Numbers 1-5 are easily reachable for your fingers.
Weapon Swap “^” (using qwertz keyboard layout, dont know if its different on qwerty. Button Left of 1 below ESC)
Target Swap: Tab (a gaming mouse could be used to bind next / previous target seperately for better target controll)
Pet Controll
F1-F4 are arguably harder to reach depending on the Hand size.
I recommend testing it and depending on your results binding these to mouse buttons.
For rangers, F1-F4 are not as important as for example Elementalists or Engineers.
I personally use the keyboard keys, but thats up to you.
Utilities
Heal: “Q”
Utility: “E” “R” “T”
Elite: “Mouse 3” (Mousewheel click)
Movement
Dodge: V (dont use double tab since it takes to long and often makes you dodge against your will in combat)
Jump: Space (Jumping = no attacks with casttime, so for god sake dont jump unless you have to)
what else is there?
PS: I use a Logitech G400 which is very nice imho. 2 extra buttons are all you need for a game like GW2.

Thank you for the answer Aeri.
If it’s a Razor anything it’s overpriced garbage. Get a G400.
As for bindings:
` == Utility 1.
A == Utility 2.
D == Heal
Q == Strafe Left
E == Strafe Right
Mouse4 == Utility 3.
Mouse5 == Utility Elite.
R == Weapon Swap.
1-5 default.
Alt+1 == Pet 1
Alt+2 == Pet 2
Alt+3 == Pet 3
Alt+4 == Pet 4
Alt+R == Pet Swap
Yea yea, I know… why change the strafe keys. I have arthritis in my hand caused by a machining accident when I was 16 which crushed my fingers. The strafe keys on Q and E next to forward is more relaxed for me.
Ok, so you both recommend on G400, interesting key binding setup.
thanx.
Personally i use a Saitek R.A.T 7 MMO with all pet commands (except swap, which i got next to my weapon swap) on the mouse alongside targeting and "next target).
In addition to this i have my 6,7,8,9 skills bound to the mouse for easy play…
The RAT7 MMO is very expensive, looks weird, but honestly, i love it and feel it was worth every penny.
Currently @ some T1 server in EU
just get one key postion to the right side on keyboard so i move with esdf, and can bind all about this so:
q = heal
a,w,r = utilty
t = elite
m5+m6 = call target / get target
shift1-4 class spells
v = doge
c = about face
< = stow weapon to interrupt spells
tab = next enemy
z = last enemy
g = stomp/rezz

Do not cut your self short with a non MMO gaming mouse.
Get a 12 side button mouse from Logitech or Razor.
It takes some getting used to and I still only really use the first 9 of 12 buttons on my Naga 2014 but it is totally worth it. Just the first 9 buttons (and the side clicking mouse wheel) is not enough so I have ‘Shift plus a #’ to give myself even more keys to use.
GW2 is a fast paced game and you really need to have everything at ones fingertips.
Everyone I know who has a 12 button side mouse loves it and would never go back to something less.
Over 15k Achievement points. Over 550 WXP ranks on Ranger. 5 legendaries. Dungeon Master.
I do hope I know a little bit about playing GW2….
I still use a Naga mouse over pretty much everything.
However there is one product i’ve been using since the early days of DAOC that I recommend completely for every MMO

This is the latest version

Don’t let people steer you away from thumb buttons, as a clicker you’d be surprised how fast you adjust to them.
That’s the one really agile finger that gamers have that often isn’t used, but it’s ready anyway.
I’ve got a naga razor and while it did take me a while to adjust, I would never go back.

just be careful with the naga to get the 2014 version (aka mmo gaming mouse), and not an older version which looks similar. The 2014 has several nice improvements, like mechanical buttons (if you use a mechanical keyboard you know how big a deal this is), and it fits most hands a lot better, the 2012 was really small.
razer naga!
While it is not a “must” for GW2 (its too simple anyways), it is the best mmo mouse out there.
Oh and you’ll need a good 2 weeks to get used to it but when you do you’ll realise the difference.
Thanx alot people, you realy got me hyped over the new razor naga, most of you agree it takes some time to get used, and from what i understand, most of you prefer razor products over logitech products. I’ll buy myself a gift
I used a Razer Mouse inbetween my last logitechs and it litterally fell apart in my hand. It started to dissolve in summer, leaving many rubber pieces on my desk :-P

Everyone just throws recommendations at you, but you have to look at whether you’re a claw-grip or a palm-grip mouse user. I have both the G9X and the G600, but being that I’m a claw-grip user, I prefer the G9X.
As far as key bindings, I like using Q for the F1 ability, then E, R, T, Y for utilities and elite, C for weapon swap, and X for heal. The G9X mouse has the 2 buttons on the side, so one is for dodge and the other I use for weapon skill 2. I play all classes, so this works out pretty well as a standard.
It’s really just trial and error. Go fight some Moas and figure out what works for you.
I myself don’t have my hand on mouse during combat. I use my left hand for movement and the right on number pad for skills. It allows me to move around so much easier and have access to what I want.
My key bindings are:
1-9 = attacks/heal/uti
0 = weapon swap
/ = elite
enter = autoloot
+ = F1 or F2 depending on class
. = turn around (instant 180 is SUPER helpful)
> arrow = dodge
I wouldn’t try and fit what you do to another’s keybinding.
On my mouse I have a few set like interact and autorun for when I’m roaming.
Oh, and personally I don’t change q or e because I take full advantage of strafing in combat. Everyone probably has their own style but without using the mouse in combat I need full motion in my keys.
Hi thank you for the tips, honestly i didn’t know about the grip differences, after doing some reading i see its a big thing i need to take into account.
regarding the key binding, i’m experiment with other people templates cu’s some of them are very nice, ofc that i will custom my favorit template to my build and play style.
It’s Razer, not razor. The second gives you a closer shave.
I’m using the Mamba with a claw grip plus the Orbweaver Stealth.
G600. Accept no substitute. You’ll get use to it. Just think of the mouse as one side of the console game pad, only you have 12 buttons on the face instead of 4. When you start to subdivide the 12 into two grinds of 6, it’s far more manageable than you’d think.
Don’t get the naga. They’re not well built and G600 has more features.
Honestly, since Ranger needs to manage maybe like 14 hotkeys overall, it isn’t a rocket science. You don’t have any macros etc.
` – weapon swap
1-6 weapon skills+heal (default)
Q- longer cd utility/passive stuff like signet or spirit
E,R- quicker, regular combat utilities
G – elite
Mouse wheel click – f1
C- f2
X- f3
Z-f4
Shift- dodge

After much experimentation I’ve settled on a G600 for the right hand and G13 for the left.
The G13 will make you feel like a useless noob for a full week after you start using it. And then you’ll never put your fingers on the “WASD” keys again. (Okay, slight exaggeration, I sometimes prefer the keys over the thumbstick for detail work like jumping puzzles.)
I really like my Razer Nostromo and Razer Naga Epic.
My wife doesn’t understand, but she’d be a lot better at the game if she had the control that I have.
And no, I’m not a fanboy. I tried the RAT9 (or 7, whichever the newer one is) and the G600… I had mechanial problems with them and had to send them back to Newegg and then bought my Razer Naga Epic. kittened me off too because I really really like the way the RAT9 looks and felt. I’m about to upgrade to the Orbweaver and put the Nostromo on my wife’s PC.
I love my razer naga and I absolutely recommend it for any other game. The problem is that there its a year+ old thread in the tech support forum on people not being able to right click turn that anet is ignoring.
My naga didn’t work with gw2 for the better part of a year and started working again on the halloween update. This bug is happening with many different gaming mouses and only in gw2.
Make sure whatever you buy has a good return policy or isn’t too expensive because that thread grows larger with every update.
LGN
xpadder and 360 controller is awesome
I have a Razer Naga Hex & a Logitech G400s, the G400s is alot easier to handle for GW2 and as some posters above said the 2 extra buttons on the side is all you’ll need for ranger.
