It prevents you from being attacked (except via AOEs) while you’re unable to do anything. Basically turns the stunned/knocked down duration into a time out, instead of “enemy gets free attacks on me”.

Well … in PvE you won’t get MORE aggro if you are in stealth, just the current aggro you have.
I hope that our pets count as NPC, that would be fantastic against thief and mesmers.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
This SHOULD work with pets so they should keep on attacking when the thief breaks stealth. Only problem is most of the time I don’t want my pet attacking because I don’t want thieves getting a few C/D on my pet, gaining stealth and then hitting me with the burst or bleeds.

I just did a single, quick test versus a very nice enemy thief in WvW. It DOES work with pets! My wolf continued to attack him after de-stealthing without me having to tell him to.
Yes I had fights with four thiefs in WvW just before and it’s decent. The pet won’t attack the thief while he is in stealth but the moment he gets out the pet continues chasing him which is very decent for us rangers. I love this change and it’s worth even the nerf of emphatic bond.
I did notice in WvW that my pet seemed to be moving with a purpose even when I couldn’t see Thieves I was fighting. This could come in really handy.
I wonder if this will assist with the rampant culling with thieves and stealth. Will my pet be able to attack him even if I can’t target nor see him?

That’s my current understanding/hope: when the Thief is not cloaked, but just invisible due to culling, the pet will pursue/attack. Could be awesome for trappers.
Well that is good news, and what I was hoping for when I read the patch notes. The bad news ? Thiefs wont be happy. I anticipate a “bug fix” next patch to correct this.

Their forum is full of whining.
If it is currently working it will be considered as a bug for sure and as they are actually listen the thief community this will be nerfed in the following ways ANET style!
1. Thief can 1 hit ranger pets with auto attack without breaking stealth.
2. Whenever thief is using stealth it is fearing our pet for 40 second.
3. Whenever thief is using stealth nearby pets get a 80% speed reduction.
4. Whenever thief is using stealth its instant death for the pet and the master and everyone (especially rangers, necros and engis) who is not playing Warrior, Guardian and Thief.
