suggest me a ranger build
Are you experienced with ranger?
this is a revision of my sentinel/knights build. u can use sword/axe instead of GS for better damage (with path of scars) but less survivability.
if youre in the higher tiers where there arent any uplevels and where people know how to pvp, do yourself a favour and dont leave your spawn point without:
- 3k armor
- 18-20k HP
- -60% condi duration (ranger doesnt have reliable condi wipes on low CD)
- 2k power and 40% crit
do yourself another favour and dont even attempt running a glassy spec if youre in a higher tier server, unless youre in a larger group where you cant be focused down. if you want to attempt something like that you can try this
but bear in mind you dont have enough escapes or any condi cleanses for small gang fights. i also advise against condi/bunker for anything more than 1v3 against good opponents, because this build operates in melee range and has next to no escapes.
ranger is pretty kitten in WvW, but the top build i recommended brings something interesting to the table (multiple aoe immobilizes and decent damage). i would wait until october patch for pet, GS and MT buffs/fixes to play the ranger.

Well, it is really up to you. If you want a build that focuses on defending or attacking keeps (from range), then go with the outright burst damage power+precision+crit damage build. I have a similar gear combination. I noticed that i still die a bit TOO quickly, despite the enormous range, so i got a few ascended trinkets with power+precision+toughness. Trait your points into marksmanship (30), skirmishing (30) and wilderness survival (10) to be more tanky and you are good to go. This build works wonders for me
If you are more into conditions, you can always go axe/torch or axe/dagger, with traits into wilderness survival, combined with beastmastery because frankly only the necromancer can ACTUALLY do decent damage with conditions, that’s why you need to ramp things up with pet damage. The other 10 points you can spend in skirmishing, taking the trait for extra pet condition damage. In this build use either spiders or devourers. This build is more of a “roaming” type, and you should stay back at gates, switch to shortbow and try to pick isolated targets falling from the walls. Also buff your team with healing spring.
You can also go full tank build, which i first tried when i leveled my ranger to 80, just go power+toughness+vitality combined with a greatsword and trait into wilderness survival and nature magic/beastmastery. I have also tried this build, it works quite nicely, because nobody really focuses your pet in WvsW roaming, and you can take all the damage while it just bursts down your oponents. For this build i strongly recommend the jaguar, as for the burst famage build.
i’ll just emphasize this one more time, sorry to disagree with you Aesuga, but unless youre a masochist, do not attempt any sort of glassy build (unless youre pew pewing from a tower like he said). you will get totally turned off the profession. any mesmer/engie/thief/warrior will annihilate you in like 3 seconds. rangers dont have enough escapes and condi cleanses to be viable in this kind of role and as things stand right now do not make viable glass cannons. you will always get the most out of your ranger by playing his as a hybrid (utility/DPS/melee-ranged)
Well yeah, you have a point, but in large fights my primary target is dead before even they notice me. This is the third build i am trying out, so yeah, still experimenting xD
I really want to try a spirit-oriented build but i am afraid that all the retraiting and gear farming will go to waste
if you wanna run glass, try valk armor instead, it gives you about 3k more HP. 100% crit damage with 2300 base power is pretty decent if you have the element of surprise or if youre not being focused, but as i said when im playing against good pvp’ers they’ll have tons of ways to mitigate or avoid my burst. LB 1 and 2 can still be side-stepped unfortunately and most profs have devastating gap closers that will nullify your range advantage. rangers are glass cannons without ANY sustain. even when im roaming with a few friends, i’ll basically get primaried by all the thieves and mesmers and once my SoS, GS cd’s, and Hunter’s Shot are used up, it’s seconds until my death. this is the problem. if you look at engies, thieves and mesmers, they have a lot of sustain, condi cleansing, escape, stability/invuln, stun breakers and escapes. all in one build.
i know youre experimenting and probably enjoying it, but ive tried just about all the possible build and gear combinations over 1200 hours and 300g+ in WvW on my ranger, and there really isnt much you can bring to the table. but the PVT build i posted is something unique and u have quite a bit of sustain with it.

I see your point, that’s why i traited into wilderness knowledge, the 20% reduction on survival skills lets me use lightning reflexes more often, so i can break stun more often and gain vigor more frequently. Also there is the muddy terrain..
yeah good point. one option is to run LB with increased range and survival utilities, which is what i used to play months ago. problem: all other professions can run while doing damage =) if youre constantly on the defense, you will buckle eventually, usually very quickly.
lets say you trait for increased LB range, and have GS, LR and protect me. we have:
1. Hunter’s Shot (often gets blocked, sidestepped or evaded, so guess what no stealth for Captain Ranger Danger).
2. GS swoop and #4
3. LR
4. Protect Me (does nothing against condi builds)
you can potentially do a bit of hit and run, but you will always get chased down. the question is do they feel like chasing you. if they do, you will die from stray damage and condis with a low HP pool if youre constantly on the defense. anyway, this has been my experience in tier 1 anyway.
I’ve been running a full celestial Hybrid Crit/Regen 0/30/30/10/0 build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-F;5F-v-f2JEV-0;9F5E;2TT9;214856A2;34NF710;0QitaQita20kKsHmYI0;0Vq5rar5sas5ta0DWDF310;5W61VY-sq
It works very well roaming and capping camps. With sword 2 for mobility, and all the regen, you can’t be caught if you don’t want to be. The damage with 93% crit dmg, 50% crit chance and 750 condi is nothing to scoff at. You can swap around some of the utilities and off hand weapons to make it more useful in a zerg. I’ve been having a blast….

what u think about this build?
he does insane damage and he doesnt die that much in his vids

The gear really only depends on your play style. If you like the idea of going full zerker and doing massive amounts of damage, by all means do so. But take in consideration all the survivability you are sacrificing in order to get that 11k crit. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to play a class. Maybe only if you trait yourself for signets, but you use spirits, but you have to be totaly stupid to do that xD. Concerning this build, i think that all the runes and stat combinations are fine, and have nothing to add there. Traits are good too, although with the new patches the pet minor trait was changed, so you might not feel like specing into that. Everything else is OK with the build.

Yea I understand Im thinking about doing a similar build and focus a bit more on my survivability by choosing other skill sets and elite skill (protect me , thoughness signet ,health regen signet, the root elite since its great to bind enemies around me if they are too close and to let me run away and get to a large range before they break out of the roots.)
Full Berserker Ranger is tricky.
I haven’t played Berserker Ranger in the last 4-5 months, but looking at how PvP works nowadays, with lots of CC spam and stability, I’d recommend Rampage as One instead of Entangle.
Either that or trait for Signet of Beastmastery, pick Signet of the Hunt, Wild and Stone. Signet of the Stone will make you and your pet invulnerable for 6sec, Wild will give you passive healings and stability on demand and Signet of the Hunt lets you run faster.
Other Characters I use when I’m bored: Taket – Warrior | Takip – Thief
Desolation

signet of stone only makes my pet invulnerable not me, I rather use a tanky pet like a bear whos F2 chills the enemy so i can stay at range and use “Protect me” incase they get close rather than making my bear invulnerable
And maybe zephyr since it breaks stuns but idk

I probably should had explained it further. That suggestion was if you are interested in getting the trait “Signet of Beastmastery” from the Marksmanship trait line. It makes your signets active abilities affect both the Ranger and the Pet, instead of the Pet only, as they would do if you don’t pick that trait.
For stun breaking I prefer Signet of Renewal for condition cleansing too or Lightning Reflexes which lets you be more dodgy too.
There was a really interesting discussion recently about the highest damage possible for autoattack. If you’re looking for berserker I recommend you to look it up:

The next build is a Power oriented build, I’ve never tested it myself but if you want to do some reading:

Ive taken a liking to my current build, you did not give any details as to what you wanted in a ranger build high dps? emphasis on survival? I wanted enough dps that I know I can kill while ultimately emphasizing survival, titled shout ranger. First I think you should be aware that there will be updates in the month of october especially for rangers.

My Utilities: sick em, guard, signet of renewal
Pets: at the moment jaguar and bear
Gear: apothecary (toughness, healing power, condition damage)
Weapons: your choice I myself use melee weapons but it does work well with long bow, or short bow but great sword has to be your second weapon set
Build: 0 0 30- I, VII, XI 30 -III, VIII, XII 10-III
