Hello Rangers!

I have simple question, did you see any interesting or strong builds for ranger in rankeds, ESL etc.? I know only about 1 ESL build any it was 2-3 spirits, shorbow/sword+dagger and traits for emphatic bond and spirits.

People run Survival Condi build nowadays. It’s one of the more annoying 1v1/2v2 opponents, semi-bunker and really easy to play at okay level.

I’ve seen couple Spirit Rangers, but celestial&AoE meta killed AI builds (well, apart from turret engineers). They’re dying to mightstack-effected perma burnings and this kind of stuff.

This should help you out. Condition Survival’s probably the strongest, great condi burst and nice sustain.

check out the RTW build I updated few threads down, if pew pew is your thing. the SotF version is in metabattle database I believe (I wouldn’t run the glass version).

power rangers are pretty strong now. matchmaking is messy, but ive been winning most of my ranked matches (75-80%) since patch hit, queuing solo. im sure i’ll hit a wall at some point, and im also very rusty.

There is no reason to run it over necro/eng.
You will probly lose to a decent ele and cant stay on a point vs most melee proffs.
Yes it’s still our best skirmishing build atm, so /shrug.

Because it can beat both nec and cele engi and keep ~15 bleed stacks up. It’s also a lot more resilient than power ranger and harder to outplay. The moment celestial gets nerfed, this build will be the king of sidepoints.

I typically run 0-0-6-4-4 sd/at geomancy/leeching/balthazar with shaman amulet. Sun/Stone/SotW optional elite wolf/river drake.

It got me to r3 of solo queue and decently far in tol2 if that matters.

Wrong. It won’t kill any decent Necromancer alone, unless you’re talking about duelling in open area and with Power Necro instead on point.

As for celestial engineer – depends if the engineer can capitalize on fields or not and how much Retaliation he puts on.

Condition Survival is very sturdy build which can 1v1 pretty nicely, has a lot of semi-passive, easy damage, lots of defense and can bunker close/far point for a while. Takes time to wreck this build unless you’re PoC Necro.

The best ranger in the world can beat a necro on a condi build.

I always found necros very weak to ranger. Necros have very little options to get out of ranger CC. Entangle is tough on them, drakehound is tough on them, they don’t have any blocks, they don’t have any reflects, they don’t have any immunes, etc.

Each profession has a “theme” for staying alive. For necro it’s a lot of health, and that matches up TERRIBLY with a profession that locks people down in soft and hard CC like rangers must.

Power ranger vs necro, necro loses 99% of the time. Condi ranger vs necro is messier but I’ve got to favor the ranger…. just my two cents, which are irrelevant since you can go fight a necro and see what happens.

Necro is a hard matchup for any condi spec, I agree. But. You have excellent condi cleansing (pet draws 3 every 10 seconds, you have 3 skills that remove 2 conditions, Lightning Reflexes also breaks fear and immob). Then you can also stack an insane amount of bleeds – he can transfer them back, however only the staff one is dangerous. If he’s on S/D set, use Entangle and stay behind the nec – he won’t be able to use Deathly Swarm on you, so if he wants to cleanse, he must heal – in which case you can use wolf’s fear / leap or your shortbow’s skill #5. With 15-20 bleeds ticking on him, a CC can really hurt.

If he still manages to get some transfers, you have every tool to cleanse it and can re-apply 10+ bleed stacks under seconds.

Engi – just entangle him right after he used his heal – it’s a death sentence 99% of times. Even if he uses Elixir S, the bleeds will keep ticking on him.

2/x/6/6/x with axe torch sword dagger wont keep that many bleeds up outside of sharpened edges proc (2x per 36 sec) or with entangle (48 sec cd)
Condi necro is always a hard fight at best, a lot depends on when the auto cleanse happens and if the pet eats the fear proc’s.
Vs eng, it seems to really vary by skill of opponent and slick shoes f that kitteny perma cc >.< but even without that utility, a good eng with cd up can keep you close to cc’d till death

Heh, if this build becomes any top pick for tournament, maybe old-time necros like me who remember “BM Ranger” from two years ago will have a chance to re-equip my favourite skill in the game.

And my winrate against Power Rangers as Power Necro is somewhere around 90% and as a PoC Condi vs Survival Condi, I’ve yet to be beaten 1v1 by one in tpvp match. They’re dangerous when coupled with someone else, though.

Maybe because I play both.

As for Engi and Entangle-he can simply use Overcharged Shot which cleanses every movement impairing condition. As I say, matter of skill.

I would not go full glass, you do not have the necessary means to really keep anything at bay. Also pack runes on a longbow build that’s no where near your allies in an ideal situation (and also shouldn’t be getting hit really, unless the bonus also works if the pet gets hit? Haven’t actually considered that yet).
Anyway I would try a 0 3 6 5 0 build with lb/sd and infiltration runes. Works a charm, especially in organised play. You don’t trade too much damage for a whole lot of defense which will be hella useful for skirmishes around side points!

I wouldn’t go full glass either…thieves/mesmers will counterplay you hard. if you invest in survival of the fittest, you’ll find damage is still great but u can actually handle some 1v1’s and will need less babysitting.

but you’ll figure this out as you progress up the brackets. full glass ranger is worst glass, gets shut down hard.

SB vs a/d?

Surely a/d is far stronger than SB these days?

SB Bleed is un-reliable, poison is too short, no aoe unless you sacrifice EB or SOTF.

On the other hand SB has bleed uptime and interrupt…

I playing ranger in pvp so much ( about 1,5k games ).I using now this build ( below ) and in my opinion it isnt bad. Yea there isnt condi clean but healing spring is sufficient. What you thing about it ? I tried to move 2 points from Marksmanship to Beastmastery for shouts and change SotH for Protect me, with drake or bear with condi clean and it works well.

What about build like power shout ranger ? Which amulet and runes to have good dmg and have sufficient healing to survive ? Is it bad idea ?
