simply, what is so good about the torch? i have yet to see any person take the full damage of bonfire(unless i entangled them). The Range/Area of effect is really really poor, it’s not even ground targeted.

that being said people have said to use sword 2 while jumping in for a combo, but that doesn’t seem to do nay damage at all?

at least #4 is alright but not enough imho to be anywhere close to as effective as #4/5 on the dagger due to the cripple poison and evade.

so what is so great about the torch? what am i missing?

Number 4 does impressive damage when it lands, and #5 has its uses against thieves, as well as being a combo field. It also does big damage against the few numbskulls who don’t dodge out of it.

All in all, it does more damage than the dagger off-hand. However, personally I would probably still pick the dagger over the torch, because it provides a poison+evasion as well as a ranged cripple. Especially the ranged cripple makes it good for both a melee build as well as a ranged build.

Burning is highest condition dmg with the shortest duration. There is a smaller window for the enemy to cleanse it before it ticks for full dmg. You would have to keep a minimum 7 stack bleed to compete with it in terms of dmg.

The torch 5 combo field can be easily exploited by the 3 shortbow 100% projectile finishers (skills 3,4,5) applying 1 sec of burning for every finisher landed. The fire aura from the sword leap lasts for 5 secs and burns the foe for every second you’re near him. After leaping follow up with the sword AA, which leaps to and cripples your foe, for maximium benefit.

The torch 5 is an Area of Denial tool and in combination with traps can force most professions/specs off point. Drop the fire field in the middle of a point and watch it go to work. Allies and pets can combo off the field leading to even bigger dmg.

Cook thife alive in shadow refuge.

Can throw skill4 to burn foe make them stay in combat longer.

Skill5 with passive bigger AoE skill5can make more effect combo with another class.
And skill5 you ranger can use skill “leap” to gain “fire aura” burn more stay near victim.

BTW I neeed torch to mainhand badly…

It’s handy if a melee class rushes in at you and you use No.5 (especially if it’s a warrior using thousand blades)

Yeah, all torch skills seem under-appreciated (it’s pretty awesome on guardian and mesmer too but nobody likes it). 8-second burn… I don’t even think that’s with the marksmanship duration bonus. 8-second burn.

If I could dual wield torches I would. Please ANet give rangers MH torches too!

There ya go. Throw in a 3rd one to constantly juggle as well.
