which race for Ranger
Asura works because of the multitude of magically enhanced weapons. additionally, you could claim their pet is stronger than normal because they’re experiments.
Humans work because of their bond with Melandru allowing them to be better able to master the wild.
Charr have a long, long history of training devourers as warbeasts.
Norn have a connection with the spirits of the wild.
Sylvari are frikken plants. if that’s not connected to nature, I dunno what is..
In essence, they’re all good for rangers, just choose what works best for you.
I have 3:
Human, because why not… doesn’t everyone have one?
Charr, because I think they are cool… Couldn’t stand the stretched textures and the overdone hunchback, but I love their running animation especially when it’s the smallest size charr.
Norn, because uhhm…. Well, just because… They have nicely pronounced shoulder armors and the weapons are huge, so I made my norn ranger as short as possible.
Some things you might be picky about:
Armors are designed for humans… Humans are humans, nothing special with them.
Can’t say much about sylvari… I don’t like their running animation
Asuras are small and the whole game feels fast with them. They got some nice animations, but armor is barely visible.
Norn are big, they have the slowest animations and can get boring after a while (reason why I made the shortest)
Non or sylvari.
If you like the human look then norn but they look to walk really slow.
Sylvari if you want to make kudzu someday.
I went Norn w/my Druid, and the Fern Hound can be trained by all that play a Ranger.

and Kudzu too pure for the corrupted Sylvari
If you go by lore there’s stuff to back up every race but Asuran as far as I know. Humans have a long history of Rangers, being very connected with the Goddess of nature, Melandru as well as multiple characters from Guild Wars 1. Charr have a long history for them, the Flame legion was over thrown by Pyre Fierceshot who was a Ranger. Norn is very obvious due to the whole hunting part of their culture as well as some famous ones such as Sif from Guild Wars 1 and of course Eir Stegalkin. Sylvari are pretty much just nature incarnate so it makes total sense for them to be Rangers.

When GW2 came out, and dropped my 6 years of “Assassin” past, I picked up Ranger because I like real medium look, Bows and Greatsword. I’ll just skip the part that my recommendations didn’t met with GW2’s offer – yet, so let’s jump on the part of select the race of my main character:
- Asura: Instant skip. They’re cute and adorable – not like me
- Sylvari: Gave it a try on beta, since their skin in black looks kind of rock, but their faces are ridiculously dumb and the animations are… “not so straight”.
- Charr: Always liked them, and since I would love to come up with a stronger “Black Lion” design, these current charrs are de-generated in the evolution, lost the ability to stand and move like a human. I’m still up with making one…
- Norn: Icy mountains, nice tattoos, and kitten lot of alcohol. Their ability to turn into humans are something I still want so badly…
Yay, nearly picked this one, but their big size and overly muscular bodies doesn’t allows me to look elegant enough. Not to mention their head options, which yet doesn’t allows me to reproduce my own face as close as possible. - Humans: Yep, picket up this. I’m still with the Humans. Overall I have ~everything essential. Good animations, my own face and in incredible luck, my own haircut!
The feel of being a noble in the Kingdom is yet not as strong as I wish to be, and the lack of bonus customization options like tattoos are bit of heart-brakers, but
I’m relatively happy with the way I am.

For me, the only race that doesnt really work flavor wise is asura. The other races either have a history of with archery, beastmastery and/or a stong connection with nature
Though i personally think norn and human have the best look both beacuse of strong cultural armor options and how other medium armor skins fit on them.
