Log in after this giant patch that changed a ton of stuff that didn’t need changing to see they ruined the ranger greatsword which was one of my favorite things in the game. Moment of clarity now shares a trait slot with steady focus meaning you can’t trait moment of clarity unless you want to do 10% less damage across the board. gg anet.

Those 2 traits are not what makes the GS so powerful with the new traits; it’s Remorseless and Quick Draw.

Greatsword became a viable weapon for PvE meta. People should learn to learn before complaining. Forums would become less of a mess.

I totally won this thread. Hands down.

They nerfed the longbow/gs combo. The GS might be better if you spec for it but then you can’t fully spec for the longbow. Not sure why they would change everything up that didn’t need changing so that returning players can no longer play their favorite builds.

They can play Longbow builds without traiting for it.
They buffed GS thousandfold. Do you realize you are asking for playing double buffed spec you played before? Which is not really playing the one you played before but the one 2 times more powerful.

LB/GS is still a thing in PvP.
And for PvE: LB was taken before GS just because the highest DPS output came from sword #1 spam and we didn’t even swap weapons. So you started with #5 LB and #2 and never took it out again.

Edit: They can play more powerful versions of their former build. If they do not like it – they can run with 0-0-0. Or leave some of the traits out.

….Steady focus wasn’t even the best in slot trait option for the old build, Signet Recharge was. Both traits are highly situational. Moment of Clarity requires an interrupt, which we only have a few of on long cooldowns, and Steady Focus in a PvP environment is almost never in effect unless you are scraping bottom tier hotjoin, because you will almost never have full energy.

For the new system though, Moment of Clarity ends up being the preferred slot option because it’s a condensed version of the old build that picks up all the traits it needs on a single build, and gives you the most opportunity to fire off heavy hits on the LB/GS set with Remorseless and Wilderness Survival.
However, again, the signet recharge is still a really great option for considering the build that’s most common is Troll, LR, SoR, SoS, and either Entangle or Strength of the Pack.

This changes when you swap over to running in a group in WvW though, because you can actually utilize Steady Focus more often in group play with being a ranged player in a group, whereas Moment of Clarity becomes less useful with the amount of stability being spit out by everything, with again, the Signet trait being a viable alternative.

LB/GS is a great thing in PvP. Especially with the Beastmastery Line… such synergy…
