AOE and burst combos with rev?
Surprisingly, the Sword has great AoE, Rift Slash (sword auto 3) can many enemies since the first three rifts can explode 3 enemies around each target.
Impossible Odds → auto-attack → win

The most basic burst skills that are incredibly easy to master use the sword and Shiro.
Just activate impossible odds and auto attack then switch legends when you’re out of energy and use unrelenting assault along with either the facet of elements active or unyielding anguish.
One aoe combo I like using is unyielding anguish and then sword 2 + hammer 3 or 5 for some nice life stealing and an aoe blind (and knockdown if you use hammer 5). This normally doesn’t work very well in PvP but it’s good enough for PvE and leveling up.
Hmm that’s a little disappointing looking at the rev skill set there is so many evades and blocks and reflects built in that I felt it would have a really high skill cap and be incredible when mastered… But it sounds like all I have to do is jump on a guy activate the super speed and auto attack away… Meh.
I think the mastering of the Revenant has to do with how and when to use each Stance to be most effective.

The difference, I think, between the revenant and all the other professions in this respect is that the level of skill used scales very disproportionately to your opponent and the revenant is a very reactive as opposed to a proactive profession. Against a good player, the level of skill required to operate the rev is enormous whereas the level of skill required to defeat a mediocre or poor player or low level npc is next to none.
For example, you play against a highly skilled necromancer (any profession will do for the sake of argument). The level of skill required for you to defeat the necro is extremely high compared to the level of skill required for him to defeat you. If, however, you’re playing against a very poor necromancer, all you’ll really have to do is use that very simple rotation I mentioned before and you win.
So what I’m saying is: for other professions, your individual skill determines how you play. For the revenant, it’s your opponents skill which determines how you play. So, if you want to play with the rev and you want it to be complex, you need to fight something/someone difficult.
Hope that makes sense.
I’ve been mentioning this to people in game: along with what Yak is saying, the Revenant appears simple, but when you look at all of their skills, they are jam packed with utility.
Wait about a month, then you’ll start seeing Revenant pvp videos showing off just how to put all this utility into action, and it’ll make you want to play a Revenant again.
jam packed with utility.
Precisely why I love it so much.
Don’t get me wrong it’s not like I’m going to stop playing Rev in fact I’m probably going to main this guy — I fully expect anet to tune some things back and buff some things (the staff for example feels extremely underwhelming, I don’t even know what its supposed to be it seems like a mix of guardian staff utility and daredevil melee martial artist thing but it kind of does neither well imo). It’s just that for a class with so much utility, a gameplay so simple made me feel like I’m doing it wrong, you know?
I’m lvl 67 now maybe once I get to 80 and unlock herald things will be more engaging, complicated and fun!

If you do that against any competent player you will lose. No one with a brain will eat a full sword 3 channel, they will block, evade, then turn round and smash you too bits as you will have no energy to defend yourself.
Rev actually takes some finesse to play, against good players you will have to time your burst while trying to stay alive, I rarely ever use superspeed. Arrange some duels against people that can really play their classes and you will see.

Exactly, I get scoffed at for using staff in my offensive builds but the utility is hard to ignore, staff has saved my butt in so many situations, especially 2v1’s and the knock back on staff 5 is awesome for interupting stomps or rezzes.

I honestly think the only thing that makes rev competitive in pvp is the glint heal.

aaah here’s the thing! you ain’t 80 yet so you basically just have done basic stuff in core tyria. Well, so, yes, wait for 80 and some difficult content like high fractals, the new maguuma pve, future raids…that you’ll see the reactive gameplay yak cited and how fun rev is
Wat r u, casul?

Heh, wait til opponents learn to stop attacking during glint and kite/evade/stealth while your shiro heal is up. Yay, 0 healing on that combo.
