Am I nerfing myself?
Yep.

When damage is reverted into healing its quite obvious that if you reduce damage by any means you actually reduced the healing. Since damage is reverted to healing, the less the damage is the less the healing is.
You should seek out to have 25 vulnerability stacks on you during Infuse Light.

As everyone else has said, yes you are. Infused Light (heal skill) is extremely powerful but only if you’re taking a lot of damage at once. For example, during the final fight of the nobles’ event chain I would get low on health, pop the heal, and run into the fire caused by the boss without any protection and a few steps in I was back to full with the burning still healing me as I ran back out.
Protection is more something to use when you know you can’t use your heal skill (either it’s down or you’re close enough to full health you don’t want to waste it or you are about to switch legends and want the boon on you for while you’re in the other legend). Protection helps more if it’s on when you switch to shiro and have the Facet of Nature active so it will last while you’re in Legendary Assassin’s stance.
Hope that helps a little
Rev doesn’t have to much access protection, I thought it would be nice to have some after healing but it doesn’t synergies with the trait.

Take herald and retribution (with glint and either Mallyx or shiro) and you’ll have enough protection most of the time to weather most CC based bursts.
It’s not ideal for a power build though, as invocation overall has better synergies than retribution.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Keep in mind that the protection also triggers when you toggle the Facet of Light’s passive regen buff. So if you just need a few seconds of Protection you can toggle the Regen Facet in stead of the costly Protection Facet and leave the active Infuse light for when you know you’re about to get nuked. Sure, you lose out on 33% of the healing, but the protection also applies to nearby allies which the damage gives them some breathing room.
Overall, it is a weird trait. Ironically, it works better with other Legends’ heals (don’t get me started on Ventari + BF).
