Since no one else started one, I will:

I am extremely grateful that Unyielding Anguish no longer displaces mobs. Now I can leap in and do damage instead of leaping in and having to run to my enemies to hit them again. Additionally, the 30 power change is perfect to let me use it three times then swap legends.

For the elite, I could not tell if the torment was really doing much, honestly. But it is better than it was and I am certainly using it now (I never bothered with it before).

Roy, I agree with your sentiment of torment is rather lackluster in regards to stationary targets and needs a trait to boost it instead. I would say to drop Pulsing Pestilence entirely (because we no longer gather conditions onto ourselves) and put something there that basically says “Increase standing torment damage by 50%”. Then, to stay in line with how you did traits (pun!) you can move Bolstering Anguish to the bottom.

As to the changes to poison triggering more (when torment is applied): The ICD of 20seconds is ridiculously too long. You see it happen maybe once a fight, which is arguably useless. Maybe ICD of 5-10 instead and swap it with Frigid Precision?

Regardless, I am much more Hyped to have a Revnant as my main in 21 days

Love it. Having loads of fun.

Two really minor things:
1) Can the footfall for Herald be toned down a bit?
2) The animation seems a little intense on my computer for the Herald elite.

The groaning noise Glint makes when activating Dragon Stance needs to go. It sounds like a constipated old woman, and it’s way more annoying than cool. I run a build that swaps stances frequently and it got old real fast hearing that every 15 seconds.

Some actual feedback:

The Soothing Bastion trait seems self-defeating. It auto-casts Crystal Hibernation when your health gets low. I found this was actually killing me more often than saving me, because the skill would root me in a really bad area and I was unable to do anything about it. As soon as the skill ended there would be mountains of AOE on top of me and I’d instantly die. I think the concept is good, and I want to take the trait for it’s boon duration perks, but I don’t like losing control of my character. I think it should be reworked. Skills rooting you are fine when it’s your choice to activate them, but NOT when it’s outside of your control.

I think that moving Ventari’s tablet around shouldn’t interrupt resurrects. I would frequently be trying to help a downed ally, and I’d instinctively try and move the tablet onto us while resurrecting someone, and it would interrupt my healing. I feel like this is very unintuitive, as the other tablet abilities do not interrupt it.

I also think that the initial summoning of Ventari’s tablet should be instant cast. The tablet doesn’t really become useful until you start moving it around – which has a good cast time – but it just feels clunky to swap stances, try and summon the tablet, then hit a delay before you can even begin to move it somewhere useful. There is so much movement in this game’s combat that having small unnecessary delays like this just leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

I’ll post more feedback as I spend more time in the beta, but so far I’m really enjoying playing Ventari/Glint support in dungeons.

From short period I had “raids” avalible yesterday, Glint/Ventari seemed to vastly outshine Druid or really anything else when it came to healing or supporting in general. It’s possible that I just have a little more experience with this setup than others, but on rather stationary trash mobs I was able to negate misplays of my guildmates almost entirely. With Ascended gear and ~100% outgoing healing just Ventari’s Will heal + prot seemed to take care of situation. Project Tranquility heal was barely visible and completly outshined by Regeneration.

We managed to make only 2 pulls of the Vale Guardian before we got kicked out, so not much to say. Boss actually does some damage and my healing with Tablet on running allies, as expected and already known from my PvP feedback with this build, dropped by a half or more. To the point I actually swapped Ventari to Jalis.

There were no conditions to take care of whatsoever, so it’s hard to say anything about Purifying Essence nerf. Ventari Elite, as I predicted, seemed decent this time.

Fun fact: Tablet counts as a person for that “stack-on-me!” AoE of blue guy and boss.

I will update my feedback thread once we rekt the boss and play some PvP again.

The class feels like it’s in a very good spot right now, apart from a few minor flavor issues I have with the class. The only major feedback I can provide is the difficulty I have changing legends out of combat, especially when I have the Herald elite spec. The little arrows are so small that I’ve ended up just swapping active legends and putting it on a 10s CD or activating Facet of Nature.

Maybe adding a right-click option to bring up possible swaps, or making the arrows a teensy bit bigger (especially for the left, inactive legend) would make this little UI quirk much easier to handle.

Rough night of pvp & WvW. Not an expert, and half awake, but things I saw (or think I saw).

Soothing Bastion – Pretty much died every time it went off. Far as I can tell it’ll interrupt anything you’re doing, heals included? Being stuck was a death sentence. Is there any situation where its going to be beneficial?

Unrelenting Assault – Was some under the hood stuff changed? Feels glitchy now. It and Frigid Burst were giving me issues. Sometimes they wouldn’t teleport. Sometimes there was line of sight errors on point blank targets. Sometimes they would go off, register hits, but you’d be left stuck in place while eight guys beat you with sticks. Stealth ends it short too. Don’t recall if it was that way before.

Surge of the Mist hits like an angry truck.

Conditions hurt without Mallyx.

I take back everything I said about Crystal Hybernation. It’s very good in raid.

Mallyx is also very useful for the boon ripping, but condi damage is a bit low (full sinister ascended gear, mace and condi traits, I was able to pull a 3500 from torment AT BEST, average was 2000).

Rite of the dwarf doesn’t last enough to tank the blue orb so I’m simply using glint’s heal and crystal hybernation, plus protects.

I really like the Revenant but I would absolutely love for there to be a few more sounds when switching legends, like when you switch to Mallyx he says things from time to time but most of the time it’s just growls, the same with Jalis, Glint and Shiro. I want more vocals for them all and for the vocals to be more frequent and when you’re in the stance of your legend, I want them to actually talk to you. It was said that Mallyx form he would talk to you or you could hear him speak whilst you’re in the stance? I can’t, I don’t know if it’s a bug or if it was dropped?

Cheers!

Well maybe 30 sec ICD, coz now it taunt AND protection, for 5 sec idc it’s clearly OP OP. But i admit kitten is a bit high.
Shield feel a very tanky choice now with the buffs and in general revenant is in a very good spot, like reaper and chronomancer (others specs need some work, for me).
I don’t like the feeling of new mallyx too, more situationnal and don’t seems to complement very well with corruption talent tree. Embrace the darkness is particulary awfull now.
Ventari stance is more smoother and has some great heals, maybe too much compared to druid heal.
Jailis Stance: I feel very sad for this stance, i really like having a tanky vibe and i like dwarf in first GW. It’s a pity that Jailis stance haven’t any tanky vibe, Glint is better in all the ways… Please Roy think about it!
The mist dodge effect is really fun but i admit i’m a bit disappointed by the underwater downed state, it’s the same that ground. Maybe can we change that for make it more creative and more different?

PS: Yeah i have forgotten, unlike some i actually enjoy glint sounds, even if it’s not the same voice actress than it was in GW first of name.
PS2: I actually find, like BW2, that Herald hold too much of the rev power. The difference with and without is quite stunning (glint have, indeed, the best heal of the game, acces to protection that make her the more tanky legend. She can support too and being very good at offense. It’s the best legend by far.)

My only complaint is with the Mallyx elite, it really needs the condition copying back.

I don’t really understand that Revenant doesn’t apply conditions to him/herself anymore as a factor. Necromancers only apply conditions to themselves with corruptions (Which are pretty crap mind you in pvp), yet they run tons of condi transfer.

Why can’t Mallyx’s elite be the same?

Been rocking Mallyx the entirety of these beta events so far. Watching changes has been one heck of a rollercoaster. I’m in love with the concept of Mallyx. I’ll jump right in with my feedback and suggestions.

For prolonged fights, the conditions really add up, however I’m set up to where I can add 4 stacks of burn. Those few stacks out perform my torment until I hit around 20 or so stacks of torment using rampager gear given to me.

Embrace the Darkness (EtD) – Instead of adding additional torment, let it add 1 stack to any current condition, that we’ve applied, to our enemies in the radius of the skill. Conditions that don’t have stacks aren’t affected by this.

We’re a condition applying fiend at that point. The 10% increased stats is pretty strong and I can see the increase on the paper doll, but I don’t really feel it because it’s an “under the hood” mechanic. I feel like there’s a ton of growth room for this elite, but as an elite, it feels like it’s missing something as-is and I feel that my suggested change drives the Mallyx concept home.

As far as traits go, I read the OP’s suggestions and I had some alternative suggestions. The numbers are just placeholders to give you an idea of what I mean.

Tier 1 traits:

  • Replenishing Despair: Conditions you apply provide you a small amount of healing. 1 second CD. Healing: 127. Same values, we just apply them to be healed instead.

Tier 2 traits:

  • Bolstered Anguish: Increases the damage your conditions deal by 5%.

Tier 3 traits:

  • Pulsating Pestilence: Your critical strikes copy all conditions currently on your target to nearby foes for a few seconds. 3 condition threshold to proc with a 25 second CD.
  • Maniacal Persistence: 15% increased condition duration.

That’s all I got. Thanks for reading.

I think Revenant seems pretty smooth now. The only suggestions I can give are just cosmetic suggestions. Maybe some more dialogue from the Legends, other than just “HGRRRRRRRRAHHHH!” and the occasional sentence. Also, staves still clip through the ground and through the ears of an Asura when idle. Hopefully that will one day get fixed.

Feels out of place for a heavy in WvW. On the fly stability and the lack of stun-breakers hurts a lot (one stun-break on Shiro is your best choice but I haven’t enjoyed Shiro for zerging). The double heal skills to make up for it a lot but its a lot of button mashing and I often find myself getting tangled up trying to find the right buttons to keep myself alive.

My setup: Glint + Jalis legends. Hammer + Staff. When running around, I would use Facet of Elements for the swiftness and as soon as we got to an enemy zerg, swap to Jalis. I would double tap Facet of Nature for the added boons (boon duration doesn’t mean much so I don’t upkeep it plus upkeep skills have gotten me killed more than once) and lay down Inspiring Reinforcement for the stability for allies behind me. I found that if I dodged while in the stone road of Inspiring Reinforcement plus take the trait, Enhanced Bulwark that I could get about 3 stacks of stab but they would more than often wear off before I got to the enemy zerg. Hammer 2 was my best bet for massive damage with hammer 3 (“leap”) and 5 (Drop the Hammer) being good for use after empowers/rallies. I would also switch to staff for Renewing Wave (4 skill) during empowers/rallies as well which helped quite a bit. Renewing Wave being heal + a blast finisher is a huge help which is why I chose staff over the other dual wields such as mace/shield, mace/axe, etc.

After getting down what I thought would be the ideal build for WvW I tried playing around again with other traits and legends. It was much harder. Mallyx was interesting. The heal was nice as well as the leap from Unyielding Anguish. I found that Pain Absorption and Banish Enchantment weren’t great but did help in some situations. More PA than BE.

Suggestions: Facet of nature activation change. Remove swiftness and add in maybe 3 stacks of stability and a stun-breaker instead. This would probably be OP for PvP and would need testing. I think removing the passive skill Naturalistic Resonance for the +50% boon duration might be frowned upon by dungeon/raid/fractal runners. Boon duration and healing power are both pretty lame at this point in time. Nobody really cares to run builds around either of them so I could be wrong or maybe I’m wrong that people don’t run those kinds of builds.

TLDR. Revenant is pretty tanky if you want them to be however the lack of good stability and stun-breakers make playing frontline with the other heavy professions hard. Its a lot of button mashing to get similar results to that of Guardians and Warriors in WvW.

My feedback after nearly two days of trying to work with Mallyx (I loved him before and really want to love him again).

Mallyx:
Here is the biggest area of opportunity for improvement (based on my experience).

Playstyle – Mallyx seems very confused lately. I know that Roy removed the condition distribution aspect of EtD because it conflicted with supporters clearing your conditions. Ok, while I completely disagree pesonally, I could accept that if the entire legend was redone accordingly as well. Unfotunately it wasn’t and what we get is a very confused feeling legend. Let’s evaluate:

Why Mallyx seems confused

-Pain Aborption: Gives you conditions without anything productive to do with them anymore

-Pain Absorption: Is more powerful with conditions, which seems contradictory to Roy’s reason for nerfing EtB

-Empowered Misery: Is more powerful with conditions, which seems contradictory to Roy’s reason for nerfing EtB

- Replenishing Despair: Granted could be considered condition defense, but made a lot more since when you were wanting those conditions (and had self applied condies)

- Bolstered Anguish: This trait’s entire play is wanting those conditions on you the same as the pre-nerfed EtB. So, why did EtB have its piece removed, but this trait remained. Makes no sense given the logic provided for the reason for EtB’s change

- Pulsating Pestilence: Only makes sense when you are gathering conditions like crazy. Has the exact playstyle (though unreliably) as the former version of EtB. So, once again I have to wonder why EtB was changed when this wasn’t assuming the reason given was the real reason (didn’t play well with boon stripping support)

In all, my conclusions are that something isn’t right here. If Mallyx is wanted to make just another condition spec, then many of the skills and traits need to be revamped because if I can’t use the conditions I gather reliably and well like the old EtB, then I don’t want the all these skills and traits that seem to thirst for conditions. Additionally we really need better access to conditions in that stance as it is a shell of the access we had before. Frankly, Mace is much better at condies than Mallyx himself.

Ideally, I’d like to see a few minor tweaks, but give EtB back its condi copy function again. There are a number of suggestions in other threads (especially the one where the change was first mentioned) to help make this happen.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

So I am absolutely in love with Ventari, I think it performs very well and each skill has a very specific purpose. My only two gripes with the tablet are the fact that while using evade skills such as unrelenting assault, or phase smash or even surge of the mists for the shield, you are unable to control your tablet while doing so, I think this would add a unique opportunity for creative use of the tablet.

I would also like to see either a reduction in the energy degen that protective solace uses or some added bonus to it such as healing per projectile destroyed or an added mechanic to destroying the projectile barrier for the player and allies. I also think the radius of the tablet skills could be a tiny bit bigger as well. Overall it feels like a balanced legendary stance for the rev and will hopefully see some play in the raid encounters once they are re-enabled.

I’m enjoying revenant for the most part It’s very fun to play so far. Some of the things I think should be addressed are:
-Salvation trait line needs to specify all the +healing to allies is only outgoing healing. (none of salvation healing traits help heal yourself).
-Eluding Nullification – a 10 second cd for a dodge is too high, should be lowered around 5.
-Vengeful hammers still get destroyed by small hills/walls/pretty much anything. (also the healing power scaling with siphons are terrible but it might be intentional)
-Shrouding Mists – the over 50% energy increase to healing does not work.
-Sword auto attack gets reflected regularly (not sure why there would be a projectile with a melee weapon auto but whatever)
-Empowering Vengeance is still a terrible trait as very little access to retaliation in jalis except dodging. (a gm trait that gives max of 2 might on dodge needs to be changed)
-Embrace the darkness is basically an under powered unyielding anguish. It needs buffing.

That’s it so far, I’m sure I’ll add to the list.

I didn’t try out EVERY rev. spec, but I did play shiro/glint. A couple of notes:

- You can get VERY tanky and still have high damage by taking a bunch of cav’s gear and abusing +30% crit chance from fury. Fury was already strong before, and with easy perma-fury, making it so effective makes precision almost unnecessary. This will cause balance issues.

- Herald boon-sharing is cool, but is it too easy to share things due to the huge 600 aoe. It is kinda sad that this doesn’t require any kind of combos/finishers, just press a button and all your allies get tons of boons quite easily. The play with might is more interesting b/c it gets harder to manage your energy, but spreading fury/swifts is way too easy.

- I didn’t feel like there was a great aoe cleave option. Glint elite packed a nice punch, hammer had decent cleave, although slow. There just wasn’t anything that felt like “there is a big group of enemies in melee…here comes the pain.” This is especially true with OH weapons. Shield is mostly for a healing/defense spec, axe is condi, and sword is a duelist weapon. It feels like sword could really use an OH that has a nice AOE attack.

- So One with Nature locks out Impossible odds, is this on purpose? It felt strange that I couldn’t use a utility while a passive buff was active. On one hand, being able to get +50% duration on quickness is strong, but on the other hand…energy drain big-time.

-Enchanted daggers heal felt pretty weak, like less sustained healing than even a thief signet.

- Glint heal felt OP, especially with inverting condition damage too. It was way too easy to just heal to full whenever I wanted by jumping in the way of damage on purpose.

Mallyx
The mechanic isn’t that bad but the displacedment of could be used Unyielding Anguish could be used to protect yourself. That doesn’t really work anymore still would wish a fear on that skill. Embrace the darkness doesn’t feel like an overwhelming elite. It just feels like a usual skill. Some changes here would be great.

Retribution Trait Line
That Trait Line could be some love on the major traits. In detail:
Improved agression is worthless. Maybe the increased taunt duration in pve should be baseline for every taunt skill in pve. For what is the damage reduction? getting auto attacks usually won’t kill us.

The new eye for an eye merged redeeming protection. I liked my old protection injection
Retaliatory Evasion .. dunno way too weak for a master. A minor (Unwavering Avoidance) already gives stability and this only ~2seconds of retaliation.

All minor Enduring Recovery, Unwavering Avoidance, Determinded Resolution are great and in a good place. Also Dwarfen Battle Training seems to be fine.

The grandmasters are the biggest problem in the trait line. Emporing Vengeance is just a joke dunno how this is a grandmaster trait. Destructive Hammer is also not that strong but at least another access to aoe weakness and additional aoe damage. Steadfast Rejuvenation is also a joke ~ 390 heal when we get hit with 4 seconds cooldown. This is less then 100hp/s when we get hit every 4 second and it instantly triggers. Sorry my engineers backpack regenerator is way stronger and is not a grandmaster.
Please rework the grandmasters as well as a maybe some masters.

Jalis
Heal feels a littlebit to weak. Could be like 1000~2000 hp more.
Still inspiring reinforcement is dead. 30 engery for a skill that takes a long time before it gives us stability and when it’s finished only 1 stacks.
I like the new Vengeful Hammers feels defensive.
Forced engagement engery costs are way better now for taunting a single target.

Ventari
Still don’t like that. Making the skills 7,8,9 makes it feel more smoother.
I only see it in stationary fights like in pve or pvp as a point holder.
Didn’t really tested it and also didn’t tried the trait line so can’t really provide feedback on that.

Hammer
Still a port option on phase smash would be cool.

Staff
Punishing Sweeb and Debilitating Slam should be reworked currently they are pretty useless because you can’t use the interrupt how and when you want because of the precondition.
Warding Ruft could need a damage boost, maybe like the engineers hammer block.
Currently it’s really hard to hit all hits with Surge of the Mists I guess the knockback should be increased as well as the width of the attack. Currently it works also really bad with phase traversel, when the target is moving you mostly won’t even hit the target. Maybe a short imoblize of 0,5-1second on phasetravel would fix problems like this.

General
We have a lot of stunbreak traits.. maybe some of them should be merged together.
At all there are some traits that are a little bit weak.

Everything else feels good in place

Axe is good even in power builds. I run sword/axe all the time.

And I’m sorry the Glint heal is fine. If people are foolish enough to not stop attacking the rev when infused light is up then that’s on them. And overall condis will still totally wreck a revenant. It’s a good heal and I don’t want to see it nerfed because people are being silly in pvp, especially since if you run with Shiro you don’t have any real big healing with that legend.

constructive feedback about revenant BW3:

game modes: pvp / wvw
builds: sword/shield; sword/ axe; staff; sword/sword; hammer; mace/axe etc.
time spent playing revnant: 6-7hrs

feedback:

- NO CONDI CLEAR – apparently “soothing stone” is supposed to condi clear but it doesnt – assume has a bug, and no, condi resist is not the same as clear. If you think it is please by all means go out and try to 1v1 a d/d ele. If soothing stone actually cleared conditions then it would at least be an option but as is the revenant doesnt add much to a party

- the Mallyx skill set needs work – a 2 sec resist isn’t worth much and the “empowering misery” heal doesn’t do anything about the condi’s that are killing you in the first place. What good does it do to heal more if you’re still going to have 12 stacks of burn hitting you after the heal?

- in pvp / wvw the lack of condi clear forces you to put a lot more into survivabiltiy vs anything you might actually want to play (like zerker or condi) and also forces the use of dwarf stance for the heal / toughness skills. The problem is that all the weapon skills, even staff, are very offensive oriented and play well for a thief / zerker role, but since you have to give up so much just to have a chance of surviving a condi attack you end up as a weak combat support role.

- shocking that ventari skills dont condi clear either

you guys really have to get the condi weakness issue fixed before released or this class in doa.

-Sword auto attack gets reflected regularly (not sure why there would be a projectile with a melee weapon auto but whatever)

yes, forgot to mention that in my review – very, very annoying.

Revenant is kinda broken at the moment. Unrelenting assault is a free 7-9k Crit if your any kina of glassy and you cant be hit during this animation or if you can I haven’t been able to do so yet during testing. In combination with impossible odds you get a free opener that is impossible to combo unless a class burns all their dodges or invulnerability skill. Phase smash on the hammer is a free opener when you cannot be hit by anything which screws up the opponents angles and they follow your body that is turned into the hammer but you bounce back to your original spot. Legendary Dragon stance is easily the best stance in the game or skills period. You can easily keep a 10 might stack and 20 seconds of Fury, Swiftness, Regen, and protection. which you then have secondary skills tied to them which allows you to unload massive damage or heals depending on your situation.

Not this again, we had a whole thread about how to counter UA already. And if you are a class with any type of pet/minion/companion you have little excuse because UA’s damage goes down a ton once there is more than one target. Revs are very weak to condis. Use them. Revenant is in a perfect spot at the moment at least for dps. Not sure how the condi rev is going.

Overall I like the Revenant alot

so far I have only had two issues (well, the first isn’t a issue so to speak.)

- Unrelenting Assualt The camera not following you when you shadow step throws me off a lot, I’m not sure how others feel about that so I wouldn’t really say it’s an issue.

-Underwater I have had a really hard time getting the stance skills to equip, as most of them say they cannot be used underwater. First I had this issue with Jade Winds, but after switching stance it fixed itself, I haven’t been able to get any of the Legendary Dwarf utility’s (or elite) to equip underwater.

I’m commenting multiple times but for zerker/maurader stats (also I’m tipsy):
Might stacking is way to easy and its not balanced around it so if you have 25 might stacks you’re doing great damage. My auto attack does 4k sometimes with the first hit, which is insanely high. Unrelenting assault could hit up to 14-17k. Like in PvP too. If it got nerfed I wouldnt be mad. The problem here is that might stacking isn’t really easy with out herald.
Herald is pretty much easy mode which is bizarre for a “elite specialisation”. I will say I noticed my damage went down significantly if I didn’t have fury but I only didn’t have fury if I didn’t have my f2 ready to cast. I think the trait Rolling in the Mists is friggen strong. I’m going to try a soldier build but I don’t think revenants survive is bad without dragon, unless I tried jalis and not using elite.

Tl:dr taking herald ups your survive and damage and makes it easier to play. It could use a nerf.

Mesmer – hoogelz

I want Old Unyielding Anquish back. That skill was unique, and not OP. The complaints came from a small minority.

And Jalis is too undertuned and is overshadowed by Glint. I think Jalis would be able to hold up if it had more CC capabilities. Like 1 immob on heal, and stability while casting the road.

And spinning hammers and chain taunt cost too much too.

Add one more Utility per Legend so that we can do a modicum of build diversification and I’d be sold. However, at this point I’m beating a dead horse on this subject. I’ve spent months trying to get Roy to explain why something so seemingly simple and huge to the profession’s quality wasn’t done but I’m beginning to suspect he’s not allowed to talk on that subject. I’d understand if they just didn’t have the tech to do it with the Legends… But otherwise it perplexes me.

Otherwise, I love the profession concept (Rapid swapping to get Energy back is growing on me, though I quite disliked it at first).

It would also be nice if the Legends were slightly more than just a set of skills, like how Elementalists get the various effects for different Attunements. (IE Send a condition to an enemy when swapping to Mallyx, copy a boon from an ally when swapping to Glint)

Sword 3 feels buggy now. For whatever reason, it’ll just not activate sometimes. I’ll have an enemy targeted, they’ll be well within range, and then nothing will happen when I press the button.

Apart from that bug, I’m loving everything about this profession.

It’s because it can’t find a path to the target. Yes, this happens even when standing right next to them in some places. It was happening to me in Orr earlier.

It’s pretty annoying at times. I don’t understand why they can’t loosen the parameters on the detection a bit, but wouldn’t claim to know all the intricacies.

I’ve been playing with Revenant today. I have to admit I’m dropping my mesmer like a wet fish after HoT release. Revenant is really a fun class, I’ve always been a big lore buff and really enjoy all the throw backs to the original GW heroes and antagonists.

That said, there are several things I must mention:

1. The Herald. Glint. This constipated old woman sounds are like the worst april fools joke I have ever encountered. PLEASE delete the april fools voice over.. When activating the Facet of Chaos it sounds like an old hag puking. It should be a truly awe inspiring <<<ROAR>>> It should shake the camera and cause AoE 5 targets FEAR + a series of random conditions. (facet of chaos after all..) Also it wouldn’t totally hurt to let the graphic animate slower when it breathes outwardly. It is so cool and yet very short lived

2. Greatsword! One problem with this game is that the aesthetics on player characters are so completely discordant. Twilight is tailor-made for the Revenant color set. It is a travesty that there is no GS for revenant. Please add it. Now. Please. Pretty please with a cherry on top.

3. Herald ground UI. The indicator on the ground is so completely terribad for the aesthetics of the profession. You’re trying to depict the new kid on the block as someone who is flashy and interesting and worth taking notice of by other players but instead this is just unnecessary screen clutter. At the speed that PvP moves nobody is going to be able to make sense of what the symbols are. In PvE it only further distances the view of the user from the great ART in the game by over complicating the screen with unnecessary clutter. This same exact idea was used by Blizzard in WoW for the Paladin- Empowered Seals. They discovered what you soon will, that by having this flashy UI on the screen, the user will be staring at the ground trying to make sense of which buff is ON or OFF instead of watching the monsters and the abilities they are using right in front of the user. This always ends up in the same outcome- a dead player because he was looking in the wrong place and got crushed by something he should have been focused on.

4. Shiro. Jade Winds. This is what petrified the Kurzick forest right? It should turn nearby enemies into amber/jade. When it stuns them they should gain the graphic from the Rite of the Great Dwarf for those few seconds. Maybe you can tint it green if you prefer.

5. When Shiro + Herald, is it possible to please deactivate Facet of Nature automatically when Impossible Odds is toggled? Right now it gives an error (due to energy requirement) and that is most inconvenient for timing.

6. When there is insufficient energy to activate an ability there is currently a super tiny symbol in the middle of the skill. I have my UI set very large (I play on a 40" screen.) It is hard to distinguish the usable from unusable skills at the moment.

7. Ventari. Protective Solace. Last I checked, druid gets to convert projectiles to healing, Mesmer and Guardian can reflect them. Is there any kind of interesting trait we can tie into this ability? Can you make it so that incoming arrows can explode and hurt nearby melee enemies or something else unique and flavorful? It’s a really cool ability I just wish that the salvation traits were more flavorful than 3+ versions of +% healing, +% healing, and +% healing…

8. UI. Area of Effect Rings. The disable area of effect rings feature in the options menu does not disable the boxy area of effect outlines. It only disables the circular outlines. Please fix this feature to disable all area of effect outlines. Examples of this: Inspiring Reinforcement and Searing Fissure.

Thanks for reviewing! Sorry if I was too wordy.
Again, great job overall- I am really impressed for the most part!

I said it in other threads, but I’ll try to keep all the feedback here.

First of all, great job devs, I love Revenant, but there are still some issues (from BW1)

Mallyx has low damage, Ventari is so inferior to Druid there is no point in using it, Jalis is just useless.

Basically our only legends will be Shiro and Glint, except those time when we are forced to use Mallyx (like in the first raid).

  • Mallyx:
This legend is basically mandatory for condi damage and boon ripping in the first raid. However I tested it in full sinister and the condition damage was like 1/3 of Elementalist. I like the new mechanic, but we lost a lot of CC and condi output.
Not much work here. Knockback on leap skill instead of chill (or both?) and way more damage on the elite, or the torment trait Roy talked about. Atm torment is bad in pve at least and we do way less condi damage in pvp.
  • Jalis:
The elite… a breakstun for 50 energy and a buff so short it can’t be appreciated. Had a hard time using that in the first raid for tanking blue lightning aoe, it was over before it ended and we took the big damage. So protection from Glint and Crystal Hybernation is just better.
I’m sure it will becore relevant in later raids, but that’s an elite for 50 energy, should last longer or cost 30. Jalis has too many energy consuming skills.
Road should give stability at start.
And I don’t even want to talk about hammers and the chain anymore. I’ll just say that chain is slow and hammers should not be a projectile. Leave them as a “ghostly” animation but make pulsing damage please.
  • Ventari:
    Sigh.
Amazing legend but useless in the future meta if it’s so much inferior to Druid. In a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is full zerker warrior, in terms of healing Ventari is 5, Druid is 11. There is almost no point in using it.
It’s harder to use then Druid, heals less, does less boons (unless you give up healing to go into Dragon stance). Roy said that Druid is burst healing and Ventari is sustained, how when Celestial Avatar has no cooldown and can be loaded in less then 3 seconds? Druid makes healer Rev/Ele/Guardian something to laugh at. They’ll never be meta.

Glint and Shiro are fine, perfect, amazing. Those 2 are THE reason to pick Revenant atm.
Too bad still no underwater Glint. And we still have our greatest enemies: verdant brink’s small bridges, walls and not flat terrain!

Tired as a dog after a full day of goofing off with Herald/Revenant, so all I can say is this:

Roy, you have my patronage. I have left behind me the days of Thief and henceforth I embrace the Revenant. You won me over. Three years of maining the same class stubbornly, and this is what breaks me.

Bravo.

To everyone that has been working on the Revenant: great job so far! The profession really feels unique and is fun to play.

So far I’ve tested Herald with Jalis/Shiro/Glint in a pve setting with berserker stats. Later today I’ll be testing the other legends as well (I’ll edit this post later)

A lot of the feedback have already been said in this thread, therefore I will briefly point them out

-Inspiring Reinforcement: it was useful during the legendary wyvern fight where he would do his wing attack and you could give some people stability. However, it took a while before the road formed and it only has a situational use.

-Forced Engagement: I found myself not using this skill at all due to energy to effect ratio. It also has to with the nature of Jalis himself that you pick him for stability and damage reduction and not for control.

Shiro is in a pretty good spot. Impossible Odds is balanced, Phase Travel is useful in fights and it enhances the brawler kind of feel when playing.

However,

-Jade Winds: from a pve perspective you will not pick it for the damage. The 3 second stun is only useful to break break bars as the energy cost is a bit off. For 50 energy you get 10 . 1,25 seconds of quickness equals 12,25 seconds of quickness and 10 seconds of superspeed from Impossible Odds.

Glint is balanced and fun to play. The boonsharing is awesome and it enhances group play (i.e. people want to gather around the Herald). I think the interaction between the facet pulsing time and Shared Empowerment need to be looked at though. I tried to time my facets to pulse at 1,5 seconds apart to get 2 might every 3 seconds but that didn’t work out! I think this needs an improvement to promote skillful play. The Facet of Nature pulsing time is a bit clunky as well (maybe change it to pulse every second for 3 seconds? It cannot stack so it wouldn’t make much of a difference).

Weapons:
Hemmer

The Hammer is in a good spot: it brings utility, cc, balanced damage, and a good autoattack. The Staff is an awesome group weapon. I like the skill 4 chance, but maybe you could take a look into the animation. If you cast it on the move now the bubble (blast) stays behind where the skill landed. Is it an option to let it move with the Revenant? Off hand sword, mace and axe are all good, but let’s talk about main-hand sword, because I think it can be given some qol improvements. I’ll try to point them out and then give reasons why I think they need some improvements.

-Sword AA chain 2 is a projectile. This causes some weird interactions with projectile reflections (feedback etc.), since sword is a melee weapon.

-Sword #2: is still in a weird spot, which I will explain:

Across all professions the main hand sword is a melee weapon and in the Revenants case the sword is your main damage source. Most weapons in Guild Wars 2 have the following general design:

- Skill 1: Auto Attack; defining the weapon to be either melee or ranged, very basic, medium damage
-Skill 2 & 3: In case of a melee weapon it’s either damage or utility (in the form of positioning or evades) or both, for example:

Warrior sword #2: gap closer, medium damage, Warrior sword #3: high damage
Mesmer sword #2: evade/damage (utility/damage), sword #3: gap closer, low damage
Thief sword #2: gap closer/reposition/condicleanse (utility) sword#3: evade/boonsteal/damage (utility/damage)

This is also true for other melee weapons, for example:

-Guardian Greatsword #2 High damage/cleave (damage/semi-utility) #3 Gap closer, blind(utility)

Now let’s take this philosophy to the Revenant
-Sword AA: medium/high damage
-Sword #2: Whirl finisher/ semi positional manipulation by chill (semi-utility)
-Sword#3: Evade/positioning/damage/chase

What we can see from this is that all of the utility of the sword is in the 3rd skill, Unrelenting Assault with a kind of unreliable chase on a 12 second cooldown. The question that rises to me here is:

“Why would I use sword #2 in my damage rotation over my auto attack chain?”

Frankly, I couldn’t answer this question. It has a 450 range (which is close to melee). If your target runs away you simply chase them by foot. This (450 range) cannot be called a gapcloser. Because of the whirlfinisher? To apply 2 second chill?

What I’m trying to say here is that sword #2 doesn’t feel like an assassin style weapon skill and since weaponskill 2 and 3 are so important to a playstyle of a profession/build I think this should be looked into

Now, one could argue that shiro has a good gap closer but the truth is a Herald in this pve setting is spending more time in Glint than Shiro and you are not going to switch legends in combat just to gap close. The Revenant shouldn’t be giving up a whole legend (and therefore altering their playstyle) just to have acces to a gap closer in my opinion.

-Sword #3: the 3/4 casting time may be balanced, but in pve it is aweful. In fact, the 3/4 of a second cast time is enough to let the player think: “Did it activate?” “Did I get interrupted?” (actually legit nowadays). The clunkyness of the skill leads, in my experience, to unintended behaviour. Because sometimes you press the skill and it doesn’t activate (because lag, large groups, etc.) and when it does activate, the difference in delay in pressing the skill and the execution of the skill itself, doesn’t feel right. I think here lies a challenge for Roy and his team to think about.

This delaytime contradicts with the speedy nature of Shiro whom the weapon is tied to.

Summary:

The Revenant is in a good spot. It is clear that a lot of hard work has been put into this to give the players a new experience. Some things need to be looked into f.e. the Sword main hand. The devs have listened to the feedback of the community which I appreciate.

See you in the Mists!

ps: I will add some spoilers and write about other legends in the near future.

from dungeon/(raid)/ fotm pov:

sword projectile so often does not deal dmg
pull feels a bit random sometimes
overall energy and cd is too restricting (found myself either use energy for utility OR weapon skills)
the shiro-gap closer (skill feels to slow with the dash-to-port animation and also makes it unneccessary tricky to use in some situations.
movement without enemy infront needs some leaps to speed up active movement…
ventari tablet feels to slow to set up to use it when its needed and not waste time preparing it when not used…
cooldowns often seem to high (“street” “reflect”,.“pull”…)

shared empowerment and facet synergizes realy bad all faced are synchronisized at a 3 sec period so it only proves one additional might insetad of 2-3

Quick fixes:

- Shared Empowerment needs a different mechanic. Only works every 3s on Facets (they pulse syncronized). Icd based on different boons or 3 might on 3s cooldown.
- Knockback on Unyelding Anguish
- Double torment on EtD
- Pulsing AoE for vengeful hammers with physical hammers only being graphical and indestructible
- Inspiring Reinforcement should apply 1 stability on cast
- Rite should be at least 6s and 40 energy. No point in using it over Crystal Hybernation or Glint’s elite
- Forced Engagement could have a faster projectile, can be strifed
- Ventari heal should be increased to catch up with Druid. Ventari is way harder to use and Druid can sustain Cele form for 90% of the time.

Sword AA and Sword 3 are WAY to powerfull for how easy they are used, especially Sword 3 seems like a direct upgrade to some other burst skills, most noteable, Mesmer sword 2. Thats just way over the top.

Except we have CD and Energy cost, while mesmers have higher damage and no energy management involved.
1 Unrelenting Assault means giving up to 1 utility or elite skill most of the time.
