So, I’e been thinking, after a conversation with an acquaintance who mains a D/D ele who told me that celestial was perfect for the D/D ele because that build could do literally everything, so they needed the stats to support doing everything.

And it occurred to me, from a certain point of view the same is true with Revenant.

Think about it: elementalists can change their weapon loadout via attunements, but based on their utility selection, attunements changes at least some of the functionality of their utilities as well.

We can completely change our utilities with the click of a mouse. So, for instance, we can be condition heavy with mallyx, and suddenly switch to dps with shiro. Furthermore, if we have to change our build fast, we can break combat and with one weapon set change and one legendary change we can adopt another profile fast.

for example if we think we might need to play healer, but prefer condi/dps we could take the traitlines corruption, devastation, and salvation, and take the mace/axe and sword/sword. That raid starts to get a little hairy and the group decides they need another healer? Maybe even during a combat? Break combat, retreat click change to ventari, click change to staff, and run back in, celestial gear supporting that too.

Maybe not quite as versatile as an ele, but I think we come a very close second with that flexibility. And celestial gear thus would support us role-switching as fast as that.

the problem with cele is how they changed condi scaling. general guideline is 1k for the condition damage stat or else dmg is sub par. yes I know whats his name said 800 on the stream but the math doesnt support.

the reason cele worked in the past was the stats on the trait lines boosted engis and eles just stacked lots of might to compensate. the other armor sets got a larger increase in the dmg stats so we end up with cele giving you about the same as pre 6-23.

I can kinda imagine a mallyx – glint build working with mace/shield and hammer. rumor has it they are scaling healing stat so we will just have to wait and see the hot changes.

Cele revenant seems to make a really good jack of all trades. I’ve tried Mallyx and Shiro combination with cele gear and it was hitting pretty kitten well with both legends and both weapon sets I had. Mallyx for example, with tons of conditions, still uses hard hitting physical attacks provided by weapons and it would be shame to not have some power and precision to utilise that fact. Also, when trying full zerker I felt really squishy, and with cele gear it was just enough survivability, while still maintaining good damage.
Celestial revenants could become a thing since the class is made in such way that you can’t really goo full on condi or full on physicall damage. Since you taking 3 different trait lines there is some mixing already happening, so why not just use that to advantage and make really good average character.
If someone has plenty condi cleanse, no problem, just keep bashing him with physical attacks, if someone has bunch of toughness, no problem, condi damage is still decent enough and sources are plenty to make him worried.

well the whole idea of have different swappable roles should stay in combat, otherwise anyone can do that in 15sec or so XD
Anyway i haven’t tested any celestial build during the BWEs but with mace/axe sword/shield i can see some potential. I guess we’ll have to wait 8 more days to know

I could see something like a Mallyx/Ventari mace/axe/staff cele support build as a possibility. Even if you don’t want to run Ventari, staff would seem almost mandatory. If you aren’t going to use staff, then celestial would be a waste, wouldn’kitten

I’m going to be going celestial for one reason:

I’m skint and only have celestial :P

because of the requirement to fulfil different roles in raids, Celestial allows me to switch at pretty much anytime out of combat (for example, if I only had zerker gear, I’d be useless against the red add/trash, with celestial gear I can help just by equipping a mace and switching to Mallyx/Glint and replacing Devastation with Corruption, this actually came up in the BWE, my group only had one condi user and me in celestial, everyone else was in zerker or clerics gear, all the zerkers had to go back and get sinister gear from the beta merchant)

sure, it would be best if I had a set of Zerker, Sinister, and Cleric’s ascended gear, but I only have one set, and nowhere near the amount of gold to make more sets.

I enjoy being a jack of all trades, I may be a bit less effective at my current role than someone who goes fully into that role, but I can be any role you want at a moments notice. “everything in moderation, including moderation” as the priory would say.

and this is especially true when we ONLY KNOW ONE FIGHT. if a boss that only takes condi damage pops up at some point, those who only have zerker gear will be screwed, as will condi users against a boss that can remove condis.

In PvP running celestial mallyx/glint with mace+shield/sword+axe made up a solid jack of all trades bruiser. When I played it it felt like there was nothing I can’t do, except for stealth. I could act as an off-tank in mid or roam to close and sustain through any 1v1 and could stall a 1v2 for some time. The damage was there too, hitting 7k on average with UA + the condies on top of that. The build makes use of every stat on celestial amulet.

I used to swear by Celestial.

I have learned unfortunately, that certain stats are more valuable than other stats outside of PVP and WvW solo roaming.

Revenant has plenty of ways to evade and nullify damage. Full Berserker would be my recommendation, if I had to pick one set.

The reason Celestial gear works for Revenant is because of the 25 might stacking when in Glint (if you are in it at least ~half the time). It’s very similar to Ele/Engin in that regard.

That all said, Sinister is superior for the damage stat side but I felt far more usage of energy for Facet of Light/Defensive abilities and almost a need for Defensive traits from Retribution line so in the end, it probably evened out with damage output.

Honestly, it just felt easier to produce equivalent damage output just by staying mostly in Glint (usually Fury (or Might)/Regen/Boon duration since Might is the specialty of Warriors/Eles), buffing nearby Allies, and spending more concentration on swapping. I can also imagine in a multi-Rev group using Prot non-stop in a similar setup to help face-tanking where Celestial would be needed less and less.

I’ll use a full ascended armor with celestial stats and Hoelbrack runes for WvW raid, plus berserker weapons and changing my trinkets based on which build I’ll choose.

Then, I’ll swap to exotic berserker or dire armor in roaming. I guess that celestial is a good choice for only the armor due the amount of points in the total is low (most of the points came from the jewelry), so celestial is a fair bet for the core (your armor).

My preferred game mode is WvW (80%+ of my time) in solo/party/small group/occasional zerg.

Sword/Shield didn’t seem to generate condi dmg, so I tossed in a Doom and Geomancy sigil to keep a bit of condi pressure on that weapon set. I left the foods blank in hopes of getting some solid advice on what I should use to fill in some of the holes y’all see. A conservative 10 stacks of might gets me to 2144 power and 1189 condi dmg (with corruption stacks). While neither number is excellent on it’s own, my hope is that together they will make a difference.

Any thoughts? I appreciate any and all constructive criticism.

You aren’t including probably the single most important thing for WvW: stability or a ton of stun breaks. You have Gaze of Darkness and on Legend swap for stun break only. That’s not enough unless you are in a party of 2+ Guards which gets away from solo/small group style.

IMO, Rev has a long way to go before being out of backline WvW zerging or being added to Guard heavy groups (which Stab has great synergy with Revenant FoN). For solo, you are basically required to run Retribution line for Stab on dodge and because of that, also go for high endurance regen (sigil/food/traits). And most solo will pigeon hole you to Mallyx because without Resistance boon, you’ll be in trouble against any other condi spam class.

This should do what you want it to do. The main thing to a celestial build is using too much celestial is bad. There is no build that will help you be effective at healing, damage and face tanking. If you try doing it all you will fail when up against something that can do a few of them well.

Explaining the build will take a lot of words but hopefully you get it.

I play Celestial, because it fit my personality best. I like being able to do a bit of everything… then… Rolling Mist happened. 100% Crit Chance on the Dot.

Now I can DPS too!… kinda… sort of… If anything it will be fun to try out!
