Concerning Staff
I enjoy staff immensely. It feels responsive, has a variety of offensive and defensive moves for different situations, and the animations are snazzy.
However, I feel like ArenaNet wants to shoehorn it into a purely support role. That’s a bad idea that harms build diversity. Don’t misunderstand me; it should absolutely be capable of being a close-range support weapon if your build invests into healing power. Yet, should it not be capable of being a powerful melee weapon if we build power/precision/ferocity? In particular, the autoattack and number two skill seem very weak for a weapon that requires you to get right in the enemy’s face.
The number two skill also relies on you properly timing your attack based on your enemies’ attacks, but even upon successfully reading their tells, the number two attack chain feel like I am tickling foes with a baguette covered in a thick layer of packing foam.
Any thoughts?
For a Support weapon I am not seeing this great support that justify its weak damage.
the heals are weak. And the damage is weak. Only thing good is the Strong Black and Strong CC.
Everything else is weak.
Where is this strong support people keep talking about from Staff?
I agree with your thoughts on Staff 2, it really doesn’t feel rewarding using the 2nd attack in the chain, and honestly the revenant has so many skills with drawn out cast times as well. I think staff 4 should at least have some sort of cc associated with it, like knocking foes back (which kind of already fits with the animation). I feel like its use in pve will dumb down to just the condi cleanse and that isn’t needed too often in pve anyways although I suppose HoT could change that. I do like the idea that the rev’s weapons synergize with its legends but at this point it seems almost too specific where you must associate a weaponset with a legend. We’ll just have to see once more weaponsets and legends are revealed.
I probably needs a better Crouching Tiger attack animation or something.
The issue right now with Revenant is that its weapons are too closely reliant on the corresponding trait line. Staff is a good example of this. Plus, staff’s power scaling is abysmal.
At least the 5 skill is amusing.

Skill 5 is amusing until someone uses it and knocks a bunch of mobs and bosses out of the damage fields you’ve setup.
The thing that strikes me the most about staff right now is that it’s supposed to have synergy with Ventari, but Ventari’s best trick is having ranged support. Also, the support feels very weak compared to guardian mace, a set that also does far more damage than rev staff.
