Yo!

So what is our staff lacking compared to daredevils? Because i guess we all could agree on daredevils staff is more superior atm.

Do you think staff would recieve some love soon? I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but staff #2 on rev is like playing on a gambling machine, i got no kitten control over it.

What love? It is a UTILITY weapon, it’s not for damage. Daredevils staff is a DPS weapon stop comparing apples and oranges. I use staff in my sPvP builds and I love it.

What are you talking about? comparing the staff on daredevil to rev is like comparing the staff on guard to mesmer or ele. They have different purpose and don’t expect them to be the same. For now rev staff is doing pretty well as a support weapon but don’t expect it to have high DPS like daredevil staff.

Idk if superior or not but staff 2 hits like a truck on top of daze. I can basically land 6k crits in pvp on 5cd if i wont miss any. Not bad for a support weapon..not bad.. Surge still hits up to 10k as well. If you want dps tho run sword.

Why are you guys attacking him? DD Staff isnt really a dps weapon, it just has higher base damage in AA than rev. Thief already has 2 melee high dps weapons, staff mixes damage with utility and mobility. its overall weaker than dagger and sword, but adds a mobile evade and a somewhat ranged blind, and more. They are completely comparable. Now, They serve completely different purposes because we are calling staff a utility weapon. If Roy woke up tmrw and increased the dps on 1 and 2 by 25% we wouldnt give it that title.

Well to me it doesn’t scream utility staff, that’s why i made this thread. Since it’s not meant as a pure dps weapon i guess i’m fine with its current state (tho i still would like #2 to be slightly changed).

I’m not sure where Revenant staff wants to be. It’s certainly not a direct dps weapon, since we already have sword which does a better job of that.

Is staff supposed to be defensive? It has some defenses, but sword/shield gives better defense with shield 4 & 5 and the evasion on sword 3.

Is staff supposed to be healing support? It has some of that. The auto-attack does a decent job of healing (though only one target per orb, which makes it limited for group support). Staff #4 does heal, but the cooldown is pretty long relative to the amount of healing. Of course, the group condition removal is useful. That said, does the healing of staff compete with shield, which offers great self healing in #5 and good group support and healing in #4? I am not so sure…

Is the staff supposed to be offer crowd control? This is where I think the staff can fill a role that other weapons don’t provide. Unfortunately, the crowd control that exists on the staff is a bit weak.
Staff #5 is great CC, but the cooldown is really long. I would like to see a 15 second cooldown, even if it meant even lower damage.
Staff #2 is a group daze on Debilitating Slam, but hiding it behind Punishing Sweep makes it really hard to use as an interrupt when you need it (instead, you can just use it ‘when it’s available’). I would like to see Punishing Sweep get a cast-time reduction, maybe to 1/2 second instead of 3/4 seconds. The weakness duration could perhaps use a buff too (e.g. to 4-5 seconds).

Other than that, I think Rev staff is in a good place.

I think it’s great as a general utility weapon, but i think it should do a bit higher damage in its basic attacks, because of the fact that you want to use it along with something else as main in another slot. Swapping to it already takes away specialized skills of the other weapons, so also losing a chunk of damage in addition feels like an unfair tradeoff to the weapon. I think that mostly is because it has very little trait support compared to for example sword or condi weapons in the damage department, widening the gap.

I mean, it’s ok that it’s not the most focused dps weapon, but I think its auto (or the #2) should at least keep it pretty competitive vs other autos.

I couldn’t really find a good use for staff yet. Mainly I use it for a little bit of a travel boost with #5 lol. Tbh though, #2 can hit like a truck, but you cant really plan on it. I messed with it for a day then went back to S/S.

I’d like to break bars reliably, but I’m not giving up the hammer for that, which means losing the sword/shield which does brutal offense and defense.

The staff seems to do nothing. I break the bar, fine, then I’m locked in a piddly damage weapon. I suppose it is a trade off when doing events and no one bothers to break the boss’ bar, so I do piddly damage but everyone around is hitting the boss while stunned.

I’d be happy if Revs got some of the auto-attack animations that Thieves did. They came up with more martial looking animations after thieves complained but didn’t give any of them to Revs.

I agree. Not going to lie, i am kind of jelly about Daredevil’s staff animation.

The Daredevil staff I’ve never looked at, but our Staff is there either for Healing builds with Ventari or pure CC reasons using Surge of the Mists, since it’s a Break Bar destroyer.

So in PvE you can take Staff + Sword/Axe, use your Staff 5 to break the boss’s bar and swap to Sword/Axe for your damage rotation.
