I want to provide some meaningful feedback, specifically to the Ventari legend because my experience with it was so bad:
HEALING VS. DAMAGE PREVENTION:
This is something that really needs to be understood and defined moving forward. Ventari is designed to be a straight healer. The problem is that traditional raw healing in guildwars 2 is naturally weak. Damage from both conditions and physical sources is so high that what keeps people alive is not raw healing and redbar up, but damage prevention.
Resistance, protection, aegis, dodges, temporarily invulnerability, and teleports are what keep people alive. As a “Defensive Support Class” Revenant has very few of these that it can supply to allies.
Removing 1-3 conditions means very little when the application of harmful conditions from enemies is so high. A ranger can drop 3-4 bleeds in one autoattack, guardians are even worse with burning. Resistance for 5 seconds is going to do alot more than just simple removal.
To be an effective support, Revenant needs more damage PREVENTION. The tablet should be able to grant some sort of temporary invul, instantly recharge dodges, grant resistances, or move players into safety.
Take for instance a 7000hp heal. This carries alot less value than a 5 second invulnerability. Vs. spike damage a 7000hp heal is one backstab. That’s using huge resources to mitigate a guy very easily pressing one single attack key. 5 seconds of invulnerability can stop multiple backstabs, a full warrior lockdown combo, and a mesmer burst.
The design philosophy of the revenant begs to say that the creators just do not understand what is important defensively.
10 seconds of resistance in a team fight can stop over 10-20 condition applications. Vs. a 3 condition removal that buys you what, .5 seconds of time before they are back again?
Effective healing means:
1.) Not only healing raw numbers but effectively nullifying damage for periods of time long enough to allow recovery. This game is dominated by CDs, time is everything. Defense that is preventative and awards time for response is worth so much more than simple healing that does very little on its own.
2.) Raw healing is still important, but the healer needs the protection to back it up. From a design philosphy, the revenant should be designed with massive amounts of self sustain with the tablet -but opens windows of vulnerability for itself when it heals others.
MOVEMENT IS KING, VENTARI HAS NONE:
I am shocked at how much movement restriction and micromanging the tablet requires. The fact that the tablet bugs out and does not 100% move where it is supposed to is downright gamebreaking. Healers need to be RELIABLE. When I press a button that I am depending on to save my kitten or someone elses kitten , it needs to work 100%.
The tablet also moves slow. Combat in Gw2 is faced paced where teleports and disengages are king. The staff has few snares, soft CC, or entrapments for keeping the battle where the tablet is. The effectiveness of the Revenant of a healer is completely countered by the enemy just consistently moving the fight away from where the tablet is. This is easy to do with classes like the thief or mesmer.
Not only is the tablet slow and reliable, the Revenant itself is slow. The skills on the tablet are slow. In the time between the pulses of the main heal, I can blow someone to hell and back with a shatter mesmer or backstab thief. Once again, no damage prevention.
The enemies constantly peeling and moving the fight causes the revenant to constantly micromanage the tablet. It’s never in the right place and never makes it to a location to use a skill in time to stop someone from getting instagibbed by a burst. You need to be a freaking fortune teller with reflexes faster than the worlds top quickdraw shooter to use the tablet to counter burst effectively. Oh but wait, it doesn’t even offer invuls, evades, or hard damage blocks so even if you get the tablet in the right place your ally (who is probably in zerk) is still going to die anyway.
The tradeoff for getting the tablet positioned right isn’t even worth it. The healing shards and protection shards dropped by the elite land in random locations and completely control your movement.
Controlling movement and proper placement is everything in a fight, the tablet fights you for this control and you end up chasing it and the little shards around like a headless chicken. It’s too much work for too little payoff.
Players in a team also move out of the tablet constantly because of the heal pulses or just get KB’ed/CCed out of its range. It’s so clunky and undependable.
