I love the glint passives but the trade-off just feels too much.

For the (admittedly short) amount of time I’ve been playing glint, the main thing putting me off is the way I seem to have to choose between engaging in dynamic combat (using weapon skills, healing, etc) or making use of glint’s utilities. Because energy always seems to be at 0 by the time I’ve used a couple of weapon skills.

I noticed another thread on here suggesting that herald is encouraging passive gameplay, which I have been able to relate to during my play time.

Is this all intended? I get there are trade-offs in most builds, but I feel a bit cornered and restricted at the moment.

Perhaps I need to learn to switch between legends more often, or adjust my gameplay to conserve energy… but to me that just says not using weapon skills and only autoattacking while my energy restores.

What am I doing wrong? should there be more ways to restore energy? Like initiative-restore methods for the thief?

Its not you bud. They put in a game mechanic to get energy back when you swap legends. So you are pretty much forced to swap legends whenever they are off cd don’t matter if u want to switch or not. Pretty much the only other way to get energy is to not do anything. Just run around in combat not doing anything. People keep defending this but the bottom line fact is forcing you to swap legends to get energy is a bad mechanic.

Yeah that’s kinda what I thought too, I really like playing glint and it seems to have great potential for the new raid content, but then being forced out of it for at least 9 seconds just to restore some energy, to me personally, does not seem fair.

I would much rather have alternative (perhaps traited, or when you “spend” glint facets for example) ways of restoring energy to allow me to stay within that playstyle.

I’m surprised I managed to not have one energy issue yet with glint.

I keep up my 6, 7, and 8 skill. When I enter combat double tap 9, use the 8 ability, then use sword 3. I continue with auto attacks until 3, 8, and 9 are off cooldown and repeat. That’s with sword shield. I used shield skills as needed.

Just need to find a way to manage them how it fits into your playstyle.

Got no energy issues. Just legendswap and avoid to have more then 3 facets active. Also staying into glint fulltime is bad. Stack buffs and swap. Everu legend except ventari has more dps

I’m perfectly fine with my energy usage. I never run out.

I guess it could depend on your build. You should never run out on Glint though. Make sure you don’t use protection with too much else and don’t use might and fury at the same time if you can help it.

All due respect, it is probably a l2p issue.

@Chuck:

We are in no way forced to swap off cooldown. Believe me, a few weeks ago I was asking for energy boosts too but it really is fine if you just think about what you’re doing.

It’s a l2p issue. The problem is people try to use everything at once all the time. That is not how rev plays. All of it ale. It’s AOE too. So yeah. Switching legend is not mandatory if benefits don’t exceed what you can do without switching.

It’s about having a choice and using what you need and when you do. Energy management part is about predicting and not being energy starved when you need it.

Today I was playing herald ventari support. While running I would stack fury swiftness and regen. In combat I would overload facet of nature and switch to ventari and use shield 4 and ventari’s will and natural harmony. So I provided boons, very long regeneration, fury and swiftness then I backed people with huge amounts of healing and overloaded facet of nature on CD while in ventari. I didn’t switch legends on CD because having on demand burst heals that put personal heals to shame was more valuable. I would let my energy build up during less intense periods to have a lot of it to burst heal when needed.

It’s similar for other builds. Decisions. Sure you can get 50% end on swap but that doesn’t mean it’s the best decision to make because that depends on circumstances.

Believe it or not I saved a lot of people’s rears. Because if someone gets a heal for 3300 3500 2000 and regeneration still ticks for 425 then that’s the health he was missing and a lot more than he would’ve healed with personal CD.

Not having any issues with energy upkeep. And haven’t had to switch legends almost at all since starting Herald (Maybe once or twice for sticky moment for the heal). I run Elements at all times out of combat, when it comes off cool down, use it upon entering combat for the burning while turning on Darkness and Strength, which I maintain through the fight. If I get low on energy I use Strengths active effect for the vuln and the 2 pips back. Chalk it up as a l2p issue, no offense.

Legendswap on Herald is not a must anymore. It’s just there if you want to do more dps (Shiro) or more condi control (Mallyx), etc. Herald boons linger for a lot of time even after legendswap, so it’s just an advantage if you want to do it, but Energy is not really a big issue anymore.

Of course, if you’re staying in Herald full time you’re either a supporter or you’re doing subpar dps. Herald < Herald+Shiro.

I thought Glint would be a nightmare to manage, but I seem to be always at over 50 energy while in combat channeling Glint. Swapping to Mallyx is much more energy hungry and I keep hovering at 10-30 energy.

It is called energy management, just dont spam you energy skills.

It is called energy management, just dont spam you energy skills.

Precisely. Energy, much like thieves’ initiative, isn’t there to facilitate mindless spam. Instead, it allows for a more tactical approach to combat, allowing you to basically have the right tool for the right moment.

For instance, as a herald you shouldn’t just put up every facet as soon as the enemy comes into view. Instead, learn to read a combat’s flow and act accordingly. If your team is under pressure, pulse out supporting boons while wading into the fray to try and grab attention away from squishies.

If your team has the upper hand, augment the pressure by pulsing fury and might, and then try to use your speed to sprint past their lines and wing-flap fleeing enemies into your team.

Is your team advancing on an enemy capture point? Activate your swiftness to storm in faster than expected, and then put down your dragon breath to force your foes away from the circle. Turn off your facets as the enemy regroup, and commit to a super turtle when they counter-attack by increasing boon duration and pulsing out regen and protection.

It is all about situational awareness and timing rather than throwing out every skill at once.

I haven’t had problems with energy with Glint. It’s tempting, of course, to try to maintain perma might and fury, but the Facet actives (e.g. strength and elements) are really good, and I use them frequently to help with damage. I also try not to keep facet of light passive on unless my build has lots of healing power. This is coming from a PvP perspective, I can’t speak about PvE.

Don’t run everything all at once and you will be fine.

or run everything and then swap. you don’t even get cd on the swap back and you will amass a lot of boons with 10 seconds of full facets.

it’s like a flow. Just manage according to the situations.

A little clarification: I don’t really use this strategy often. It may happen however that you need both damage and protection+regen, so you may end up using 10 upkeep points. Regardless, it’s not a big deal. You have 10 seconds of full facets (almost) then when you swap legend you still have 50 energy and a lot of boons. This is actuallt viable since sword and hammer have great AA.
