Playing around with the build editors out there for my first chance at playing the Rev this weekend. I can build some decent dual-wield theories but having trouble finding anything in Specializations that would provide synchronization with using the hammer.

Is it just me or do none of the Specializations offer a good sync with using a Hammer? Devastation and Corruption could possibly work but that seems more for the dual-wield route.

On top of the issues you already addressed, Hammer ironically is our only ranged weapon. I know you could get the traits that add stats for damage and go the dps route for the hammer. Other than that I did also notice many traits are very duel wielding centric.

Hammer already hits like a truck, i dont see a reason to add some % damage traits. Its a fine weapon on it own except drop the hammer skill. Hammer is just underrated by community which pick up sword/xstaff for some reasons i dont understand at all when sword paired with hammer is simply superior to dual melee.

I worked something similar and was going to test that this weekend. Not sure its going to be that effective though. I wonder if instead of hammer we should have gotten Greatsword so some of the sword traits could be useful.

Hammer’s role is long-range AoE so it synergizes not with traits but the playstyle. Shiro aka Riposting Shadows should immediately jump out at you.

That being said, Hammer’s main issue is two-three very similar abilities Phase Smash and Drop the Hammer (and even Coalescence of Ruin to a degree).

The first two are AoE circle with a fairly hefty cast time that has a fairly punitive cooldown to prevent spamming since they are both Blast finishers. I’d actually like to see Drop the Hammer as a secondary attack (like a chain if you evaded on Phase Smash would open up Drop the Hammer.) Then replace Drop the Hammer 5-slot with some melee range launch attack (400-750 units like Banish) to push the target beyond the Field of the Mists range line.

I was just doing a little bit of research into this. It seems like a Revenant looking to utilize the hammer would run Shiro and Ventari. Shiro obvious reasons. But Ventari has good projectile protection and some knock back potential. Seems like a good fit for a range based character.
