In its current iteration Revenant physically cannot beat any other class. I understand betas and testing, I have been a professional game QA tester for 5 years, I know where of I speak. Revenant is no place close to being ready to be tested on live. By releasing it into the live game Anet is saying its close.
So here’s how I would fix it to make it viable.
Damage currently Revenant damage is non existent, people are saying that’s okay because it lacks its damage trait line…but its not. I use absolutely no offensive traits on my zerker medi guard, my zerker stance warrior and my knights FT engie, and I do plenty of damage. You shouldn’t need traits to be able to deal good damage. Traits are bonus damage so you can go full bat kitten glass. I would fix Revenant damage by giving them a 25% increase to base damage across the board. That sounds like allot but one of the bigger hitting single skills I have seen on Rev is the charge on staff the best I have been able to get out of that skill is about 6k, a 25% increase would make that 7.5k, better but not crazy.
Heals Rev healing is terribad, without going HEAVILY into healing power there are very few extra heals that break 1300, that’s pitiful. Lets compare some traits across the classes.
Necros gets spiteful renewal which cures a condi and heals for 960ish when you strike a foe below 25% hp on a 5 second icd. Rev gets Steadfast Rejuvenation which has a 50% chance to heal for 389 on hit on a 4 second icd. And thats compairing a necro adept to a rev grand master.
Warrior gets Rousing Resilience which heals for 1k and gives 1k toughness when you stun break with no icd (bloody brilliant trait btw) Rev gets Equilibrium which deals damage 500 ish base if your over 50% energy, or heals for 389 if below 50% energy when you swap legends. While the rev trait has no icd because its on legend swap it has a 9 second cooldown.
I could go on, the Rev trait Replenishing despair is a particularly sad example. But as you can see rev heals fall very short when compared to similar traits on other classes. I think Rev needs most of its heals buffed by 25-50% Replenishing Despair needs about 250% buff.
Ventari The Ventari legends tablet mechanic is interesting, but in the end its just clunky. I would change it to just always hover around above or behind the player. Then make its individual skills ground targeted so the tablet flys away to execute the skill and then comes back to you. Then give it an actual 6 heal skill. And make the tablet just aoe pulse the heal from the spawnable fragments, seriously a 1k ish aoe heal is not a crazy thing, guardian can do that all day long.
Energy The Energy system is just broken for several reasons.
Weapon skills, they should either have no cooldown or have no energy cost (I would prefer no energy cost) but having cooldowns (equal to most guardian weapon skills) and an energy cost is like Thief weapon skills having both a cost and a cooldown. I would keep the CD and loose the cost, because its exceedingly annoying to be trying to fight, using your weapon skills only to realize that you can’t use any of your utility’s because you burnt all your energy on doing damage. So then you have to try and kite around waiting for energy to recharge. Thief has some of this issue to but there are three MAJOR differences, 1 Thief only spends its resource on weapon skills, leaving it free to use utility’s when it has no initiative, 2 Thief can stealth and wait for initiative to regen, rev can only kite…and pray, and 3 Thief actually gets traits that give it initiative back allowing it some level of control over its resource pool. Either take the cooldown off or take the cost off.
Next the costs and cast times on most of the utility skills do not reflect their effectiveness. I don’t have allot to say here, its just bad. Personally I would remove the energy cost from most of the utility’s (especially the heal skills) buff the heck out of up keep skills and make them the ONLY part of Rev. As part of that I would make the Mallyx elite an up keep skill. I personally think it would be interesting to make all elites upkeep skills, Mallyx pulls condis off ally’s and sends them to foes, Ventari pulls foes around to toward you, Jalis makes a field around the player that reduces damage and possibly pulses 1 stack of stab (like juggernaut on engie but aoe)
Over all I feel just swapping legends is more than enough class mechanic, I don’t like the way the energy “system” works and would be perfectly happy to see it go away entirely. I do feel Rev lacks variety and customization in its skills, I think it either needs two weapons or 3 legends.
