Hey guys,

I love the class concept of the Revenant – a warrior of the mists invoking legends of old to screw up the baddies. Hands down my favorite class concept of every gw2 class. But I’m having a hard time with the gameplay and I’m wondering if it has to be like what metabattle says it has to be.

For condition: https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Revenant_-_Condi_DPS
You get to use your weapon abilities, but you don’t swap weapons other than for breakbar, and worse of all you only use 1 utility skill on each stance – Embrace the Darkness/Vengeful Hammers, until your energy is depleted.

For power: https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_S/A
You at least get to use the different herald abilities (sort of, you just leave most of them on), but you only get to use 1 unique sword ability, other than that it’s just auto attack and energy drain. And again, you pretty much only weapon swap for breakbar. For max DPS, I’m not even supposed to use Unrelenting Assault (sword 3) and that’s one of my favorite abilities in the game!

Now on my Ranger, Engineer, Thief, etc, I’m constantly utilizing my utility skills. Not just to get rid of the odd boon or as a unneeded gap closer, but traps, venoms, kits, spirits, elixirs, extra healing, extra stealth, etc.

On the revenant, unless I’m in PvP (though even there sometimes), I feel like I never touch half of my utility skills because they take away from damage. Other classes don’t have to give up their damage to use their utility. They may have to take one second of time to cast a spell, but at least they get to cast it without wasting all of their precious energy.

So I guess my question is this: Is that really the only way to play revenant? In order to be competitive, do I have to play like this? Can utilizing more weapon skills (sword’s 3, switching to hammer, switching back), and utilizing more utility (Jalis lightning field stone path, Mallyx’s aoe leap and ranged confuse, soon-to-be-renegades spirits) do decent dps? Maybe not THE BEST, but, enough? It’s just so much more fun.

Those are just optimal rotations for raids. These rotations assume you have perfect realistic raid buffs. In fractals or open world pve it’s a lot easier to utilize other utility skills for a variety of scenarios and on your own or without perfect buffs other skills become more powerful options
