Hello, I’m currently maining DH. I can’t seem to deal with Revenants. My mmr is currently very high, so it’s not unusual that I face WTS players.
I had a conversation with Texbi from Rank 55 Dragons the other day when he played Power Herald Shiro rev and asking for some basic tips on how to properly play vs power revs.

So basicly, how do I deal with the amount of dodges / Engange / Disengage and pure dmg revs have?
Its not unusual I get hit by 8-11k staff 5 combined with shiro heal.

I often need to use my Judge’s Intervention for bursts, so I have no chase potential outside of sword 2 and f2 (which is usually used for healing and weakness cleanse).

Any tips are welcomed.

Edit; Passive Taunt procs kinda kittens me over too.

Revenants are a bad matchup. You can follow the don’t fight them advice.
You can however use F1 and Deflecting Shot+heavy Light and traps to interrupt blocks when they lack stability. Also it’s impossible to dodge out of bow 5 if they already don’t have stability.
I do not play DH so there might be things that I don’t know about, but to defeat a Revenant power based damage is a bad idea.

You should probably ask this question on Guardian forums. Most people here could tell you general things about Power Revenant, but you will get better, more specific advice from other Dragonhunters.

The passive taunt is bs. Not denying that. Don’t chase a rev ever. Hold your ground and throw a test of faith down. Your f1 should be saved for crystal hibernation as it is unblockable or its activation can interrupt our evades namely reposting shadows. To avoid the staff simply move in a circular pattern and if you expect it, dodge forwar or f3 of course. Usually used when they switch to shiro stance. The longbow 3 is unblockable that can be a good interrupt and 5 can really mess a rev up since it prevents dodging and stunbreaks. DH can wreck a rev idc what people say, the number of unblockable abilities you have is insane.

try to have your f3 up when you trying to CC i guess
i can’t really say about guardian
but i do find a pain when getting unblockable spear pulled when i’m blocking
and pull to spike trap when longbow knock back..

I play both. It’s a very bad match up. It comes down to watching for:
1. Glint heal. Don’t undo your work… Note: This should probably be made more obvious on the character.
2. If they are in staff and dash to you, you need to be ready to dodge, because Staff 5 can nearly 1 shot you if it hits you directly. Do NOT use courage to CC break it as much as you might want to, it does no good. It will CC again the instant that it breaks one of the knock downs, and will interrupt the courage cast and you will have wasted the full cooldown on Courage and it will not activate the shield nor stability.
3. If they run shield, you can save F1 pull, as it is unblockable, to yank them out of Hibernation. Similarly, Test of Faith on them. This means you can keep them from healing and more importantly, stalling for cooldowns.
4. A good time to Courage is just after they use Sword 3. Keep moving and it will block a lot of the hits and if they aren’t paying attention they often launch a Precision Strike right into it, as it’s a common burst combo. Near the end of the evade you can start using True Shot so that it keeps facing them during their attacks, and if timed right, hits them as they come out. Alternatively, try using LB5 on you while they evade, with Courage up, so you have a strong set up on them.

That’s a little bit to get you started.

EDIT: Fixed what “it” was in #2.

This.

Also, while probably not something you’re gonna use often: using your Leap(s) will really mess up Precision Strike’s aim, so if you desperately need to escape that, that’s another option.

It also depends if they run Invocation or Retribution. The latter can provide perma-Stab (watch for Soothing Bastion though) and gives them Eye for an Eye (Taunt + Prot when CC’d) and the former lets them burst harder, but makes them weaker to CC, so watch if they get Stab-on-dodge or not.

Aside from that, make them bursts really hurt and punish however you can, but it’s not an easy fight.

To be honest, I don’t know why there isn’t more rage over “Spear of Justice” being unblockable? An unblockable pull on a 15sec CD is nuts.

Power Rev biggest weakness are conditions, they have litterally no removal and die very fast from these, but they tend to escape easily because condi classes have terrible mobility.

Ok, I stand corrected and blame Anet for crappy tool tips. Since it doesn’t say on hover over until after you use spear. Still, its an unblockable pull on a specialization with traps and a passive knock back. Beyond how trolly it is in WvW against defender’s on a wall. It should be blockable.

Yeah but that’s because of the immobilize/bleed and burn stacks, I always wondered if changing Shiro for Mallyx is a good choice in this situation.
