I mained necro for 2 years then got tired of all the issues and odd limitations so i decided to try an evade thief last October. Really enjoyed playing it, spent a good amount of time working on it and not getting into bad habits (evade spamming). Then they nerfed the class to the ground while buffing everything else. Anet seems to be in the habit of double nerfing ( e.g Chill stack limitations + chill trait nerfs at the same time). In the thief’s case it was Vigor nerf while at the same time removing Feline grace. This ofcourse killed the class i (and probably a lot of other people) spent a lot of time on. We now know that they did it to make Daredevil relevant.

Now we have Revenant, extremely fun class to play, versatile, decent mobility, decent evade capacity, the set up I use is basically Thief without stealth. The problem now is how long before the class is nerfed. How long before builds and (more importantly) play styles become destroyed?

I am hoping that after all the shuffling around and everything that has happened this past year one or two things would have been learned so there wont be anymore drastic changes and over nerfs. Will this be the case or do I not bother with this class instead of going through what you put us through with Acro thief.

why? with the exception of FFXIV:HW it has happened for every new class in every MMO.

Death Knights were OPas hell for WotLK in WoW, Ninjas were STUPID powerful in FFXIV:ARR (the reason why I said HW was an exception was because after NIN, they made sure to deliberately undertune the new jobs).

I have no doubts that Demon Hunter will be the same when WoW:Legion is launched

Rev is the “poster child” class for HoT, they want to be able to point at it and say “look how cool and powerful this is! only £50!”, it’s why Rytlock was center stage soloing raid bosses without even getting a scratch in the trailer, and when the launch hype has worn off, we’ll be brought down to normal.

Exactly. Revenant is part of the marketing for selling the expansion. I’m pretty sure during six months there is gonna to be revenants everywhere. But i’m don’t sure it’s gonna be op during an entire year, i would say more something like 5 or 6 months, coz revenants are going to be everywhere in pvp or pve.

I admit i was really disappointed with mallyx and jalis next BWE. I have think about it and revenant has pretty nothing of a ritualist, only the blindfold and invocation (no spirits, no ashes, no imbued weapons…). In other hands i hate playing a high popular class and i begin to think mesmer can be really cool too. I’m looking forward Jalis and Mallyx changes next week but it’s a pity for me seing you can only run two legends (shiro and glint) who are clearly superior to others.

Anyway i think there is no safe post, revenant is going to be a little op at release i think, but is going to be nerfed in some months. Play a class you like, all the time there is nerfs or ups. Balance in a MMORPG is endless.

I’m hoping Mallyx and the Corruption line will receive some tweaks. I enjoyed playing Mallyx/Glint.

Fact is Revenant will be popular but is not OP as other claims. People know other classes perfectly, know what might get against to and how to react.
Even with elite spec, that’s just 1 trait line and some new skill, overall you know what to expect from a class.
Rev is new, and I saw many people fail to avoid super basic stuff like glint’s dragon breath.
No one remembers bolas+bull’s charge+100blades from warriors back at launch? as soon as people learned to block/stun break/dodge it wasn’t much OP, was it?
Rev is in a good spot and looking at 3y of history I prefer to have him start in a bright situation because is more likely to stay competitive with skill balances.
I mean, warriors, guardians, elementalists, all classes in good spot from launch ar still in good spot.
So yeah to me is a safe bet, it might even get some buffs in Mallyx/Glint/Ventari.

Mallyx i can understand he is in a situation where he haven’t really a role designed. He need some tweks. Ventari is already really good i don’t really understand why you want change him. But man GLINT? Glint is the most op legend the revenant has. She just make 70% of the power of the revenant, she’s freaking huge. So buffing her? Hell no please! She’s already too strong compared to other legends. But buffing and fixing some things in Mallyx and Jalis who are not as good at Shiro, Glint, Ventari and are situational. Yes it can be done.

PS: I was myself looking for a versatile class. But jalis and mallyx spot make me sad last BW. You always need to take Shiro or Glint (ventari more in pve for sure) coz they are the best legends so far. And well, having a versatile class who can only use 2 (or 3) legends on five. Well…
I’m waiting for some changes but i’m already levelling a charr mesmer (yes i have finally found a good outfit for a charr mesmer) in case revenant stay on Shiro/glint duality.
Moreover i tend to avoid high popular classes and i’m beginning to think revenant is going to be the most played class for a moment. At top with elementalist or warrior. We’ll se how the future is.

I mean there’s always going to be a chance something you like about the class gets nerfed. It’s the nature of any MMO game with constant balance updates.

This is why I keep a full stable of alternate characters fully geared up and ready to go and if that fails there’s always other games to try while they figure it out.

aahhhh my bad! i meant Jalis XD
Jalis should be a tanky legend but it feels to me so much situational. He has the best healing skill aside glint’s one, tho.
Ventari has potential but it is still a bit clunky, especially in the cost management of table movement, it has to be instant or way toned down.
Mallyx is meant to be a condi powerhouse now, but unless you burst all you energy you can really pressure much, and even there, it isn’t that heavy pressure.
