Bullet points, self explanatory. This is a recap from all the other threads.

Renegade:
- remove energy cost from f-skills. They mess up rotations on core legends.
- remove cd from utility skills. Obviously.
- stun break moved from healing to a random utility.
- make summons less vulnerable and give them stability.

Optional:
- ranged greatsword instead of shortbow (same skills but Kalla had a greatsword).

Herald:
- underwater Glint
- Shield-4 now also heals 1 condition
- Some healing is moved from Shield-4 to Shield-5

Core Revenant:
- underwater Jalis
- restore the skills that were nerfed because of PvP, just make a PvP and a PvE version. Most of the huge nerfs to sword and shield were made because of PvP.
- Cleansing Channel buffed to 2 conditions.
- Trait on Mallyx that transfers 1 condition if Resistance is ripped. Should scale to more conditions depending on the duration that was ripped.
- Remove quickness from Impossible Odds and just make it like in GW1, with a flat multiplier (so from 10% to 20% but no quickness). Otherwise Jalis will always deal more damage than Shiro in all party content even if Shiro is supposed to be the dps legend.

Optional and likely never going to happen:
- remove or lower energy cost on weapon skills so that we don’t rely on AA.

Please help this thread reach the Devs.
Thank you.

Fix Staff. Staff 2 need change, energy cost need reduced. Damage on auto attack need to be higher or give better Support and Defense. Staff 4 need to heal more. Staff 5 need direction targeting like Warrior GS3.

Healing orbs on Staff auto need to heal more baseline and provide some other effects to.increase defense and Support of self and allies.

Can I just say that apart from the statue in the Black Citadel, there’s nothing to say Kalla actually primarily wielded a great-sword, there isn’t enough lore to be able to make assumptions of how Kalla fought, we only have a description of her duel with the Iron legion imperator Ironstrike where she bled him to submission. Npcs mix and match armour types with professions all the time and besides; rangers can wield great-swords and short-bows.

I like the idea of the rest of the changes though, bumped.

Copying this comment from another post here. Granted they probably aren’t THE absolute best solution but I think they’re at least looking in the right direction.

A note on the first one I should have added. Revenant weapon skills aren’t like Thief skills where each one is rather niche to a specific circumstance. This has lead to the current situation where the meta is basically “just auto attack, maybe hit 2 sometimes”. The energy mechanic is further restricting your play, unlike with Thieves where Initiative effectively lets your weapon skills share a CD so it’s okay to have ‘dead’ weapon skills in certain situations.

Core Revenant ‘Needs’ 3 things:

Removal of Energy cost from Weapons
The core concept behind the Revenant is that their 6-0 skills are a bit more restrictive in options, but that they have more flexibility in their usage by having two sets of them at a time and their use being restricted to your relatively faster filling Energy Bar instead of CDs. So having your healing or clutch elite or utility skills restricted by your weapon skill usage is contrary to that. Let Energy represent your ability to channel the power of legends, not to swing a hammer.

A Unique “Favor” Passive for Each Stance
This was suggested years ago to make the Legends more than just button that refers to a set of pigeonholed utility, heal, and elite skills. They finally added it, but for some reason chose to make it an additional new mechanic for Renegade instead of applying it across the board.

Each Legend needs to provide a passive effect whenever a certain action occurs while they are invoked. For example, Shiro could provide a stacking crit damage increase self buff triggered when you land a critical attack. However, similar to how Renegade works, by specializing in a Legend’s path the minor abilities should provide a few additional methods of gaining the buff even while not invoking them. To use the Shiro example, add to one of the minor traits, “Attacking a target with vulnerability has a % chance per stack of granting you Shiro’s Favor.”

Add a little bit of Utility (7-9) slot versatility
Add an additional utility skill per legend. In addition, add a set of 4 Glyph skills that can be included in any Legend bar (but not more than once), the idea being that they provide some niche utility options to help customize builds slightly, such as the ability to include a condi-cleanse skill without having to make major build changes.

The Glyph skills should have a specialization trait in the Invocation line and each skill’s effect is somewhat modified by the current Legendary stance, for example – in Centaur stance the Glyphs effects might involve the tablet.

Given the nature of Glyphs I can’t believe this wasn’t done already… they’re kinda perfect for the Revenant. Though, I’m pretty sure I suggested all of this going on two years ago now… sooo yea.

Anyhow, whether anyone even likes my suggestion, the profession is still lackluster and incomplete when it has sooo much potential to be amazing. Hell, it’s so incomplete that they decided to give it a second weapon set (originally they had one) in the 11th hour as an ‘easy’ way of adding some much needed versatility.

I’d also be fine if they switched it to Longbow, and increased the range. With a lack of mobility, and defensives of everything, it makes more sense that we would have longer range.

Why we get shorter range, no mobility, no defensive’s, is beyond me.

I would not be okay with them suddenly switching from Short Bow to Greatsword, even if I have an Eternity in the bank collecting dust. I just crafted Chuka and Champawat due to Revenant getting Short Bow, I’d be well ticked off if that suddenly was a complete waste of my time, resources and Gold.

Luckily there’s not a chance in a heated desert of that happening, given they’d have to create assets for a new weapon all of a sudden with less than 3 weeks to go.

None of these changes will happen except possibly some unrelated Kalla changes based on overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding the new Legend.

ANet basically has always balanced based on in game actions and performance of players and almost never player feedback. Players lie. Players over exaggerate. Players make bad arguments. However in game by collecting class usage, weapon usage, skill usage, etc they can get to truth of how and what people are actually doing. We can make arguments like Jalis will always be more DPS than Shiro but they can take a look in game and see that X% of all Revenants use Shiro Y% of the time in ABC game modes etc.

So until the Revenant completely falls out of the meta for each game mode and people actually stop using it then I wouldn’t expect much outside of Kalla tweaks. I guess people just are incapable of learning you can’t lie to the devs who can actually access the in game data.

I play it just because it has the most interesting set of abilities. I love teleporting all over the place, it truly is a blast. I just wish it was a bit more….useful?

Being so squishy, while my damage output being subpar to most classes kinda sucks. But I still have fun. Doesn’t mean I won’t stop fighting to actually make my character on par with other classes.

Also fun note, I don’t know ANY legendary abilities except the Jade stun if I really need to. I just like the weapon skills too much not to use them.

I think these suggestions are great. For Renegade instead of removing CD from utilities, it will be much better if energy costs are reduced. Removing the CD alone is not going to make them viable, cuz they will constantly compete with Soulcleave’s Summit, which is probably going to be better use of energy, particularly in PvE.

In addition, I do not see any reason why Renegade utilities not being untarget-able and immune.

As for Rev as a whole, it currently has three problems:

1) Power Rev damage is on the low side. In sPvP it is even much worse.
2) Limited way outside of Mallyx to deal with conditions.
3) Jalis is really terrible, outside of spamming hammers in PvE.

For power rev, I suggest:

- I would move the 10% bonus damage from Impossible Odds to the following: When you use Shiro legend skill increase damage by 10% for 5 secs. It is 5% in sPvP so this should be okay.
- I would remove the 33% damage reduction from Precision Strike in sPvP. It already has 1 sec longer CD in sPvP. As it currently stand Precision Strike is 43% weaker in sPvP than PvE. I cannot think of any skill that losses so much damage between both game modes..

For Jalis,
- Inspiring Reinforcement cost from 30 to 20.
- Forced Engagement cost from 25 to 10.
- Rite of the Great Dwarf, cost from 50(40) to 20. CD 30 sec. It becomes instant skill.
- Activating Jalis skill removes one condi (locked to retribution). ICD 5 secs.

If Inspiring Reinforcement or Forced Engagement are too strong with lower energy cost, increased CD can be added sPvP only.

This way Jalis can be considered in sPvP to counter condi for power build. So you have option between Herald/Shiro for damage or Herald/Jalis for sustainability.

Finally, I would make changing a legend add 50 energy instead of resetting energy to 50.

I mean, this will probably break WvW anyway.

Even if we 100% math it out where Kalla Utilities and Short Bow are categorically the worst DPS in the game this isn’t going to stop random people from using it. Like that’s the thing you always gotta remember, there’s always random people doing random things with random builds in game and they show up in the usage reporting for skills/abilities/etc. For every super meta player only looking to play the absolute best there’s still a few casual dudes running around the world in a random spec and using random abilities because they “look cool” or “match their character theme.”

I’m not convinced that Winds of Disenchantment is going to be the end of the Revenant for WvW. Pain Absorption is very spammable and it’s ability to rip conditions and stack immense duration is very spammable as a result. I’d be more concerned about it removing Stability stacks as the melee ball lives and dies on it’s stability. That said I don’t think I’d ever consider bringing Kalla for WvW when Herald is vastly superior for solo and group play in WvW.

Using this argument, why hasn’t Centuar Legend been fixed to be useful?

Because it still gets used. Ventari Bunker Revenant is certainly a thing in SPvP. Ventari healer I believe is a thing on some raid groups. So even if you or I think it’s the most worthless piece of garbage and wouldn’t ever actually use it in it’s current form doesn’t mean it doesn’t see usage in game.

try taking a rev to any raid other than deimos kiting. It HAS fallen out of the meta in PvE ever since NR/SoI nerf and that has been a LONG time. yet no buffs despite split PvP balance.

But that’s one game mode, nor have people really stopped using it in other various game modes such as WvW (where it’s still staple), SPvP (again staple on multiple builds), and general PvE (dungeons, fractals, world, etc). Even then you could bring it on a Raid and it would be viable, especially the Condi spec after the new Torment changes, and even quite good. This should be even more so after the introduction of Kalla giving a third trait line to boost Condi damage. ANet balance moves super slow, which while is VERY annoying, it’s one of those things it’s unlikely they’ll do anything until they see how things shake up post POF at this stage with it being 2 weeks away from launch of POF.

This is me. Currently use Sword/Axe and…..nothing else. I don’t like the hammer that much. I just REALLY like teleporting all over the place, it is a lot of fun.

I still want to use the bow, but I’m worried not due to its effectiveness, but energy issues. I’d love to teleport all over, and even use Shiro’s back dash for once in my life, pull out my bow, and pewpew! Buuuuuuuuuuut…..energy says F you guy, you only can use a couple abilities.

I disagree with this, because of A-nets history of bad descisions ( some good too) based on hyperbole, misinformation, community outcry, and well thought suggestions.
Sometimes the changes are implemented with no data or forethought and other times things are done as a knee -jerk overreaction based on community views and suggestions.

For example:
Thief- Changes to backstab, pistolwhip, shortbow, heartseeker, and staff.
(soon to be rifle)
Mesmer- Every nerf since 2012
Engineer : turrent engi, decap engi
Elementalist: dagger nerfs, RTL nerf.
Revenant: Every nerf since release.
Warrior: traitline nerfs

Anet has a really bad track record of nerfing things just because people complain about them, without actually fixing the things that would solve the issue in the first place. (healing signet).
You could also look in every forum ( mainly pvp and wvw) and see the hyperbole and misinformation that Anet will take in, and nerf classes based on the tears of the vocal minority.

Prediction:
Ventari Bunker is going to be nerfed based on the crusade of the very vocal pvp minority.

Almost all those nerfs have to deal because those things were constantly and overly used. People in turn complained about things that were overly used. You’re attributing the nerfs to the complaints but the reality it’s players over use and abuse that triggers the ANet nerf bat.

I mean at one point we literally had two Revenants in a single SPvP team considered meta, you know bad things are coming your way when that happens. When the RTL nerf hit it was because literally every Elementalist was using D/D in every mode except WvW zerg play. The more something gets abused the more ANet is going to notice.

See the balancing principle is actually pretty sound because players, as a whole, are incapable of helping themselves use just wildly strong specs/setups. Soon as the cat is out of the bag everyone and their mother starts using it. That’s one of the big points to Brazil’s videos recently, he knows these things are damaging, but he’s going to educate people on how to use them so they get nice and cancerous to the point ANet has no choice but to nerf/change things because everyone is using them.

Any complaints are, after the fact, largely just a symptom of the point that a large amount of people playing a particular class setup that is strong or overpowered.

Condi nerf in general really.

Yes and no, a lot of those examples were niche and only used in ONE game mode.
You dont see engi running decap in WvW or PvE
Same for almost every build being nerfed

I mean at one point we literally had two Revenants in a single SPvP team considered meta, you know bad things are coming your way when that happens.

There were teams running double mes, double war, double ele, double engi
Well before rev
Double classes have always been a thing, yet a lot of the double x classes were untouched, until people cried about something.

When the RTL nerf hit it was because literally every Elementalist was using D/D in every mode except WvW zerg play. The more something gets abused the more ANet is going to notice.

Most ele’s still use D/D even after the nerf to RTL ( which again was very short sighted and kneejerk)
For months D/D was meta and to some degree, still is for pvp content.
You telling me D/D will be nerfed again because Ele’s use it?

See the balancing principle is actually pretty sound because players, as a whole, are incapable of helping themselves use just wildly strong specs/setups. Soon as the cat is out of the bag everyone and their mother starts using it.

Everyone starts to complain about it.
Anet nerfs it..
So, yes?

Any complaints are, after the fact, largely just a symptom of the point that a large amount of people playing a particular class setup that is strong or overpowered.

I’m not understanding the order.
People learn about most strong setups because someone complains about it ( like your video of brazil)
People use the build to troll the people that cant counter or play around it
( see DH traps)
Anet see’s the tears and nerfs the class into oblivion
( every class since 2012 that has gotten cries for nerfs)

So if the pattern goes
People complain-Anet changes

then metrics or no, until someone complains, a lot of things remain unchanged.
Like the torment buff.
People were still using mallyx in WvW,PvP, and even some pve content, yet torment was buffed.
but people complained it was weak in PvE
Torment was buffed for PvE

Tears turn gears.

I mean ANet has always nerfed on their own time. I mean we can point to numerous points in time where ANet will let something go for a while and then later gut it with little warning. For example Celestial Turret Engineer they let run for quite a while there, was only useful in SPvP, and they ended up gutting it by making it so all deployables can be crit and affected by Condis rather than really nerfing the specific class.

Yes there were double class teams in the past, but in many cases those classes received numerous nerfs as a result. A great example is from your original post talking about the constant Mesmer nerfs. Elementalist has also pretty much always received numerous nerfs as well (to the point I originally became tired of it and swapped to Revenant…haha oh the irony).

Most Eles I’ve seen use D/F beacuse of /F strong defensive and control abilities where as /D is more damage focused. If D/D becomes dominant on Elementalist to the point it dominates the metrics they’re going to look at why it’s dominating the metrics and take action as a result. This is how ANet has always done balance. You can point to almost every single nerf in the game and you’ll almost always see something that majority of people were using.

Lots of people cry about everything. I mean these forums are basically a repository of constant whining about every tiny detail in game. People still complain about Hammer burst in SPvP on the Revenant forums but it’s not nerfed because there’s really just not much usage there to justify it being out of ordinary. However when Hammer was being used constantly by large raid groups (10-20 Revenants per Blob) in WvW it then got various nerfs.

So lets take our Ventari Revenant Bunker. If a lot of people adopt it and it starts becoming staple in every game, ANet will see this trend and react accordingly. Whether or not people complain about it is largely irrelevant to the fact that unless a lot of people start using it they’re not going to do anything about it. Even then the opposite is true and even if a lot of people are complaining about something but not many people really use something then they’re not going to do anything about it.

In essence, you’re blaming the symptom and not the root cause of why things get changed.
