Leveling a revenant
idk if you can use glint with renegade (I don’t think)
Confirmed. You can only equip one elite specialization at a time.
If you’re not level 80 yet I don’t know why you’re worrying about gearing towards anything. You deconstruct or sell all your levelling gear along the way. And you end up learning all traits eventually.
And open world PvE isn’t terribly challenging. Not even for a revenant. You can equip substandard gear / sigils / runes etc. and get through.
If you’re playing Malyx for condi, equip condi stuff. Worry about optimising when you’re level 80.
Glint is more needed for power builds. Glint/shiro is a staple there. Malyx/Jalis is a fairly common condi build that should still be fine for renegade if you dont want to use the eliet legend for whatever reason but still want the traits.
I’ve been useing malyx/jallis for a while now and only swap to glint when I either need to supply the buffs for a group or if I’m long distance runing and dont feel like useing rapid flow trait in invocation to keep swiftness up.
Here’s sort of how it goes:
Power will always take Devestation and Sword/X
Condi will always take Corruption and Mace/Axe
Any build will always take Invocation.
Then your Elite Spec.
That’s about it for Open World… Mallyx/Jalis is top dps spec for condi in group play, but I find Mallyx/Glint much better for solo play. Glint gives you perma fury/lazy perma swiftness and a full HP reset vs AI… Jalis gives you… hammers to proc more crits for torment and some okayish power damage to supplement your condis (a lot less since the last patch “fixed” them tho.)
Renegade will change a lot of condi play in PvE, but based on the previewed info we have, it feels way too squish pants for PvP and WvW, and I can’t see it replacing Mallyx/Glint in the current WvW guild fight meta.

Meh… when the expac launches, people will drop Glint like a bad habit. And thank God for that. Death to the lazy boon bot spec.

People will leave Herald and therefore Glint, but that doesn’t mean that will Kalla because having the strongest part of the Renegade (the traitline) doesn’t forces you to use the weakest one. Talking exclusively about PvE, tho.

That may be true, but they’re going to have a rough time in PvP.
Renegade takes all the weaknesses rev has and multiplies them. If you thought dealing with condi bombs was rough before, enter Kalla, a stance with no cleanse or invulnerabilities and equip your short bow, a weapon with zero blocks or i-frames. Now compound the problem by forcing you to choose between having a heal or having a stun break—since they’re the same ability, you’re going to either have to either burn it early or eat some hard cc.
Most likely, you’re going to have to dedicate your entire second stance and energy just to defense and escapes… Either it be Mallyx resistance spam on yourself while running away or Shiro’ing yourself the f out of there before you get bombed in the first place.
I think people sick of being a boonbot are probably better off just using PoF as an opportunity to roll a new class.
Although I’m sure renegade will be fine’ish for PvE… I’m not sure if its dps potential seems good enough to eek its way into the raid meta with how much pure pewpew some of the other dps classes are getting, and I don’t think it’s utility really brings anything desirable to that scene either as a dps/support role, but maybe… At least it’ll melt faces in fractals probably.

I don’t believe anyone in their right mind thinks that Renegade will be a thing in SPVP. But then again, Revenant in general wasn’t exactly screaming for play in that format either, other than maybe for those fairly high skilled players I suppose.
but I do think Renegade will become meta in WvW due to it’s offensive condi -bombing capabilities, CC (aoe pulsing daze is as good as it gets, particularly when combo’d with boon steal sigil on interupt) and support (10 sec -33% reduction in condi dmg, group life steal and group bleed dmg). Mallyx will obviously still be wanted too as being a resistance spam bot is still fairly mandatory in that game mode.
Edit:
People forget that the invocation line has a stun break on legend swap and if you have mallyx as second legend, as everyone will since renegade heavily promotes Condi play, Pain absorption acts as stun break too. So don’t see why everyone is moaning about having stun break tied to heal. We all know that everyone will just save that one for a true “oh kitten ” moment when cc’d to hell and ability to both heal and move at the same time becomes hella important.

The two main moanings about current Revenat is their irrelevance in PvE raids (which I have no clue if the Renegade will solve, but also don’t care, to be honest) and the uselesness of the condi builds for roaming and conquest due the inability to put any pressure at range. Due shortbow lacks defensive skills that means that Renegade can go “full suicidal” with sb/m+a or more balanced with sb/staff, which means losing the other two condi weapons. So that will probably lead to “use the same power build as two years ago”. For PvPrs and roamings a full expansion with no improvements or changes could lead to frustration.

That can be sub-optimal in a lot of situations in which you need your breakstun but your HP is fine and will waste the heal on a 30 sec cooldown, and viceversa. The root, as always, is the inability for the Rev to customize your #6-#10 skills at all.

Who’s to say you have to slot Kalla if you spec into Renegade? With your above scenario, you can easily slot both Shiro and Mallyx while still having the F abilities of renegade. Both shiro and Mallyx enjoy a no cooldown stunbreak only requiring energy.
You can still enjoy the traits and ability to use shortbow without slotting into kalla just like you can slot into Herald without slotting in glint. Although it doesn’t seem like much, Renegade has a KD on stunbreak, condi-reduction, and Retribution-like retaliation.
As far as Kalla’s utilities, yea they won’t do much for us in pvp but the elite looks interesting. I see it as an on-demand enchanted daggers that you use sparingly. Things will be interesting this upcoming demo weekend but I’ll reserve much of my initial thoughts until I try it out.
