Hello all. I’m trying to learn revenant (Herald Spec), but I’m having some issues.

I have put together a build that has a decent damage output and some condi mitigation, but I appear to be having severe trouble with stuns and knowing how to respond to stuns before I get melted.

It may just be something I need to pick up from muscle memory, but I figured I’d ask and see what turns up:

How does one manage Shiro in order to respond quickly to stunlocks, and how does one play while in Shiro? I understand Glint pretty well and know that Shiro has the most versatile stunbreak access for Revenants at this time, but when I get forced into shiro stance by something that’s stunlocked me I kind of.. flounder.

I run Sw/SH and Staff. I have some experience with Hammer and Sw/Sw, I’ve given up on Mace and Axe because Glint is mandatory for being alive and Shiro is needed to be alive as well.

Resident Disgruntled, Coffee-drinking Charr.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.

I am assuming no stability in which case you need to learn to dodge and what to dodge. Swapping to Shiro and casting Riposting is incredibly fast so don’t wait for the bar to materialize.

If you have invocation that means a stunbreak on 10s cooldown.
In shiro dont activate quickness right after you swap because that means you cant stunbreak. Use it when glint is almost ready to be safe so you can stunbreak by swap.

If you have retribution you should grab enhanced bulwark (herald grandmaster) and that provides the best stability access in gw2. Leadership runes help too.

If you dont run either traitline, your build is bad.

Thank you very much. I’m new to Revenant as well and this helped a lot. Btw, I’m eagerly awaiting for more of your videos

Praise be to Balthazar, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

In general, shiro goes really well with sword/shield and glint goes really well with staff (With some exceptions of course). Given that, here are some tips for all the shiro skills.

Enchanted Daggers: This is quite versatile in that it can be used to increase your burst, heal up after you’ve taken some damage, or both. Since healing on the meta revenant build is limited to conditional heals, you need to be smart when using this. I would suggest to never open a fight with this as the enemy will see that your going to try to do a really big burst and spam their evades/ other damage mitigation skills to avoid it. It is best to use this when your using sword as it has more rapid hits than staff and a lot of your skills lock on so it is quite easy to get the six hits off pretty fast. You can also use this to regain a little health if your in a dangerous situation as it has a small initial heal.

Phase Traversal: Due to the high energy cost and long cast time, there is almost no situation you would want to use this when you could use Riposting Shadows. The two unblockable attacks aren’t really worth the added energy cost and cast time. The times when this is called for would be when you want to go up a ledge or through a wall or something like that to get to your target, otherwise I would suggest not using it.

Riposting Shadows: If your going to spam any skill in shiro this is the one. It is the most useful skill in your kit as it’s a stunbreak, evade, soft cc clear, and endurance boost. You can also use free cam so you can about-face, use this, and turn back so you can close the gap between you and your target while gaining endurance (which you need since your now in melee range) and you will have done this for less energy than if you were to use Phase Traversal. Note: Don’t evade right after using this since you will go in the opposite direction as you were going with when using Riposting Shadows, which is most likely toward what you were trying to get away from.

Impossible Odds: This has limited use but it is really strong when used right. Since it limits the skills you can use as well as destroy your energy, you mostly want to use this when your legend swap is up and you are in range to auto attack your target. However, you need to be careful as it is very easy for your enemy to apply counter pressure since all you can do is auto attack.

Jade Winds: This is rarely used as all the enemy has to do is block, dodge, have stab, be invulnerable, or have a stunbreak to completely mitigate the skills effect and set you back quite far in terms of energy management. This is only really good to use with leadership runes or to cc when your trying to stop a stomp/res and you don’t have glint up or you don’t have time to use Chaotic Release.

Now this is just my opinion and how I play. Never the less, have fun learning revenant and hope this helps.

Everything Dr. Patrik said is way on point… I would add that Phase Transversal is super useful against Guardians/Warriors/other Revs when paired with an immediate staff 5 and that Impossible Odds is great for cleaving downed enemies—especially if you’re using Invocation and have no stability for your stomps.

Also, you might wanna mess around with sword instead of shield, you lose healing, but your block becomes mobile which is great for setting up bursts/escaping behind pillars, costs less energy, and has a lower cd.
