So a bunch of us are getting 80 and it’s been a while since I have played and created a character. From what I can see most people are saying for WvW Berzerkers and potentially Celestial are our only option.

I have my weapon, armor and jewel crafting all 400+ now I’m trying to figure out what to build and what stats to put on things. Am I supposed to try to build all ascended gear now? Where is it recommended I start?

I have a bit of gold and ~100 Laurels if that helps.
As for spec I’ve got a hammer, Staff, Sword, Axe all Berzerkers. (Not sure what to pick for shield)
I’ve been Shiro Mallyx, but likely going Herald as soon as I have it finished.
Thanks in advanced!

If you know exactly what you want and can afford it, then you should go Ascended to skip the exotic costs. If you are unsure and/or can’t quite afford it, then Exotics is the way to go considering how much easier/cheaper it is to obtain them.

If you have gold/resources beyond a full set of exotics, then you should go for Ascended pieces in the following order:

1) Ascended trinkets (rings > accessories > amulet > backpiece; ranked in order of cost/ease of obtaining)
2) Ascended weapons
3) Ascended armor (save for last when you have oodles of gold)

Faye Oren – Mesmer
Lee Oren – Ranger
Eve Oren – Revenant

And as far as stats? What is the consensus?

What is it you plan on doing in WvW? I’m no expert there, but if you plan on running in a Zerg, I’m fairly sure you are going to want something more durable than Berserker gear.

For PvE go zerkers until raids are released. Revenants have more than enough dodges and innate tankiness to survive in the new zones even with glass cannon builds.

I’m not really interested in running in a zerg. I’d rather run around with a small group. I know WvW isn’t really friendly to that though, but there is hope.

If you already have another characters with ascended trinkets, then you can move these items to your Revenant as those are account bound (look in tool tip for soul bound vs account bound). The same goes for loot which you haven’t yet made soul bound which will happen when you equip them.

I wouldn’t invest in any armour above exotic or make big investment (for ascended or legendary) weapon at this stage as Revenant could have changes for how stats and traits work.

Have you tried to run with Berserker gear in Borderland, Eternal Battlefield (or even EoTM – all which you get through WvW panel) or any other game mode that you would use Revenant?

You don’t need to go all out in Berserker stats and it might help to use Build Editor to play around to see which numbers you could get from stats and to see what kind of effects (condi, boons, control and combo) you will have from different combination of traits and skills.

Don’t forget that you also have Runes for armour and Sigils for weapon that might play an important role for what kind of play style you will have and how those stats actually will play out during game play.

Revenant might take better advantage of Runes which trigger effects from our healing skill or elite skill, then most other professions could do. We also change very often both between weapon sets and stances [for resetting of energy] which make swapping sigil a very good idea to consider as long as they don’t interfere with each other.

And as far as stats? What is the consensus?

I’ll speak for myself here. I’m a fairly experienced WvW player in both zerging and roaming, so take this into account.
I’m running full zerker gear without any problem at all. In zerging (backline and gank), in roaming and in open world PvE including HoT zones. I do it using a few defensive traits, like life siphon in Devastation, the entire Retribution traitline, and the Herald traitline. So my traitline and weapon choices (sword/shield and hammer) makes up for my glassy stats and I feel fairly tanky running this build. Awesome damage and good active defense.

But there’s one thing. The build that I’m using does not use the traitline Invocation, that has the Rolling Mists trait that increases the amount of critical chance that you get from fury. By the math that people did, if you will run this trait in your build, full zerker might not be the most optimal choice for full damage, as you might be able to have the damage of a regular berzerker with a bit more tankyness using other stats like valk. So, think about the build you gonna run. But my advice is: full zerker is completely fine if you know what you’re doing and it’s a super safe equipment stat to craft as it is the most optimal power damage stat in the game.

How does condition based stats fare then compared to Berserker stats? I have levelled my Rev with Scrolls up to around 60 and then been collecting Hero Point up to level 80, by going from zones for lvl 1-25. Of course my Rev do not have a complete set of gear ATM (need to craft or buy it), but I have tried to keep stats with most condi, vitality, power, toughness and precision as the main stats from loot during my hunt for HP.

I am not sure how much precision (or ferocity) I will need to get those sigils that trigger on critical to actually work.

My goal is to be able to survive in the new borderlands (ran most solo roaming at camps in the old BL and did it quite well as Mesmer (before Chrono)) and in the new HoT maps.

Would a condition based Revenant be as good as berserker based considering the new maps (in Maguuma Djungle) and changes to borderland? What kind of status for gear and runes would work?

I can’t say for my own experience as I didn’t try condi rev yet in the world since launch. So what I’m gonna say is just general consensus and what people have told me.

I have a friend that is running Jalix/Glint celestial frontline revenant in WvW with Mace/Shield – Hammer and having a good success with it. Frontline rev does rely a lot by the guardians in the party giving him stability, but it works. For roaming, BWE 2 Mallyx condi build was great, but now it has been gutted, it’s weaker and lost its flavor and playstyle.

Condi, by definition, is damage over time. So for low hp mobs, the burst from a power build is better. For prolonged fights, condi can be better. Mobs in HoT open world have a bunch of health. But even so I saw way way more power revs playing in open world while I saw one or another running condi. I guess after the nerfs is just not that popular. And I mean the pure condi build.

Considering it, if you wanna go for condi damage, I would recommend the celestial stats. With Glint you will have a good amount of might stacks to power up your lower baseline stats and it might help. But I believe that right now condi or celestial rev is not the most optimal stats for it. I can’t say for experience and I’m not saying that is bad, just that is not the very number one around.

Runes/sigils I don’t have much idea, never thought about it. But I was doing a build in pvp in 2 minutes, I’d go for geomancy/energy in one weapon set and uuuuh, I don’t know for the second one. Hoelbrak runes for celestial stats. Mace/Axe – Mace/Shield or Mace/Shield – Hammer.
