Pick 2 words to describe Rev this beta
Absolute crap.
Slow moving, slow skills, low damage output, crap healing, weapon selection is horrid. I ran through freaking wayfarer’s and did less damage to mobs than a lv. 7 hammer guard (which would also be faster). I didn’t think it was possible to create a prof. more uninteresting/boring than a d/d or p/p thief… but the revenant managed it. I think the d/d or p/p thief might even have more dps, which is just sad considering rev is supposed to be a heavy class.

I suspect additions will come but a net is avoiding spoilers.
Kind of silly to do beta testing of an incomplete product…
I can’t confidently provide feedback when in the back of my head I’m thinking we might get 3-4 more weapons… 3-4 more legends, which will add weapon/legend specific traits, which means removal of some of the current traits.
Sub par.
The demon stance is the only one with some killing ability to it— and that ability is more like a necro before the condi revamp. I don’t really understand the random push-back of the Unyielding Anguish utility for a (primarily) melee class, either. What’s the point of teleporting to your target to teleport it to a random location out of your reach? Groups are going to hate this skill more than ranger longbow knockbacks and necro AoE fears.
Dwarf has some stability and CC, but no punch to it. I like the looks of the animations, but they’re barely worth using.
Centaur is a bit clunky; I agree with the other player who cringed when he had to drop everything to move the tablet around. It would be more useful in a turret-like capacity, spreading heals passively while you use utilities to trigger special benefits. Still, it’s quite a sacrifice to have the tablet take up all your utilities. Even if engi equips heal turret and supply crate, they have less heal mobility but they can still equip three useful utilities. With that comparison, Centaur utilities give a condi clear that the engi doesn’t, but the rev’s remaining two utilities are… a delayed heal pulse and setting an anti-projectile barrier on the tablet. It’s difficult to tell how useful that barrier is because nothing at all has attacked my tablets thus far.
As others said, I hope the DPS spec makes this class worth playing.
Weapon Swap.

“It died.”
I haven’t played it, only against it. And the only thing of note I saw Rev do was die.

IMO you’re best off playing Rev understanding a) this is Beta and b) it’s not finished.
Why do so many people have a cry about things in beta, it’s so silly.

this was actually very useful for a team of 5 revenants in the citadel of flame story mission, when we came to the boss who kept staying in his fire fields. We ported him out of it and killed him.
two words:
needs work.
whomp whomp
Because that’s how they get fixed before launch.
Having a cry is very different to being constructive (which a lot of ppl in this thread are being which is good)
There are so many who just complain without basis though, as I said it’s silly.

fundamentally flawed
Needs work,
Which is what this beta is all about. Need to see the other trait line to see how it meshes. Also Invocation and Salvation lines seem to be weak copies of each other instead of having independent strengths. Personally I only found mace/axe enjoyable to play and mostly because of axe. Hopefully the other main hand weapon(s) are enjoyable.

The whole point of the Beta is so that issues can be brought up to the attention of the devs to fix. If everyone just didn’t complain because they thought the way you do no issues would be discovered and the game was have a disastrous release.
Fun and unfinished.
The mechanics are really interesting and there’s a lot of potential here. But we’re still missing core components of the class and what’s currently there is pretty lackluster.
2 words psht. They should have combined Derv/Ritualist together.
Worthless underwater.
Literally can’t do anything underwater except swim and die.
Has Potential
But needs work. Some good synergies like drawing conditions to you and more damage for each condition you have is good. Hammer needs more damage, moar cowbell. Mace/Axe has been fun but no place in a meta dungeon party atm.
Work In-Progress
Flashy Noodle
Going to need a lot more work so it can really shine, but I’m seeing signs of decent synergy in traits and skills.
Skill effects/animations are a little ott in some situations. some guildies played Rev in WvW yesterday amongst the usual group and the constant roadworks were funny at first, then just got irritating.
Slow and Clunky.
My single most wanted change is to fix the energy management system as it currently stands. I would like to see no cooldown on skills that require energy, and for weapon skills to not require energy. I would also like to see some way (ANY way) to build energy in combat besides sitting there doing nothing, aka auto attacking. Should be more like Initiative where you can build it up by traiting and doing certain things.
Jade Quarry
I’ll use 2 sentences:
- The Animations are not smooth.
- Damage too low

Cool but restricting.
I like the animations and how their skills feel, but they need weapon swap, even if limited in some way. The utility skills don’t make up for only having one set of weapon skills to play with. I don’t like how if you want range you have to use hammer but then you get nothing but that, yet if you run staff or mace you have no ranged option at all.

Hype over.
I am considering to ask for a refund for my preorder now as revenant was the main feature ive been interesed in. Its not the case anymore.
Wannabe Hack’n’Slash.
It seems very weak without quickness. The traits are boring.
Disappointingly awful.
I LOVE staff 3 spinning block and reflect. It’s a beautiful skill. The trouble is staff is absolutely useless for damage even if running full zerker, and the legends don’t help either.
None of the other weapons and legends seem to offer much in the way of damage either – mace/axe condition play seems to be decent but the survivability of the revenant is so bad that it’s impossible to stay in melee range long enough to deal enough damage…
I have plenty of words that all come out kitten. I’ll choose…Human only.
Crystal Desert
No damage
Shiro legend and that specialization better be over the top, cause this is currently worse than necro in PvE.
( feedback) u need 10 min to kill a mob whit this class..? is more a supportive class.. u need a support class in this game?.. i dont think so… (even if u did u will never pick this hybrid over the guard/mesmer like never)there is no holy trinity so there is no need for a sup class.. that have a super cool animations but that’s it.. 3 spells on the bar no chance to swap weapons ..2 stance is mediocre, on paper looks awesome in combat hesus..
Cool animations.. but if u expect for example that tablet to keep u alive no chance.
Before u take a revnant in your party u will take all other professions.

Seriously, it’s so underwhelming that I don’t want to waste any more time with it this beta event.
“Needs Shiro”.
I could use daggers or swords, and some more damage-oriented traits.
Having a cry is very different to being constructive (which a lot of ppl in this thread are being which is good)
Constructive criticism is best, but even nonconstructive criticism has value, as it lets them know how many people have a problem with the status quo, and often some degree of why they have that problem. It’s not the community’s job to fix problems, only to point them out.

Scattered and Incomplete
I want more stability and stunbreaks. this is just one in few. But considering it’s attack speed is quite slow on account of it not bieng a classical direct damage time. I don’t want to get my attacks constantly interuppted.
lame duck……
Here’s one I just read a few minutes ago- more or less says it all.
“insta kick”
Unfinished
That’s all I can say about it.
Weak and limited
Weak because the damage output has to be anet trolling us.
Limited because the traits are pretty much useless and the lack of utility diversity/weapon swap means you have to run the same exact utilities as everybody else.
(edited by Dinks.2478)
Extremely lackluster.
The Revenant has nice support options on paper. Ventari and his traitline provide a lot of AoE-Heal, increased for his allied and… decent for the Rev himself. Jalis grants a little stability, 50% (?) damage reduction and a taunt and Mallyx can draw conditions from allies to foes. The problem is the lack of damage, movement and self-sustain. By far the biggest problem is the lack of movement.
Ventari traits make the Rev heal his allies better than himself while he’s pinned to that plate as Ventari works this way.
There’s a leap on staff #5, Mallyx’ Unyielding Anguish and that teleport on axe #4 for Movement and most skills lock the Revenant in position anyway (hammer #3 and #5 most notably). There is no damage mitigation except for the Rite of the Great Dwarf (which has a kitten huge cast time).
The direct damage is very low but I see Shiro with Sword/Dagger as a silver lining. There’d still be a problem of what legend you pick as second one.
Talking about condition damage, it might be me being too stupid for Mallyx, but all this torment stacking cannot compete at all with guards/eles stacking burning, warriors stacking bleeding and burning, rangers stacking bleeding, burning and poison, terrormancers or mesmers and engineers stacking everything. Most notably that the Rev has to set up conditions on himself before being able to set up a decent amount of conditions on the opponent. Though the Mallyx condition setup seems to be close to viable.
Another issue is that you tie your weapon(s) to your main legend which usually makes using F1 a bad idea. Ventari and Mallyx combo quite well with “their” respective weapon set (Jalis and the hammer are not best friends, the issues were already adressed in this thread).
The legends themselves cannot be used for skill combinations (most notable Ventari) like people do with the two weapon sets on other classes (Mesmer setting up illusions using both sets for a shatter, Warrior stacking might and adrenaline with GS, switching to hammer for a stun combo to switch back to GS to 100B the stunned opponent down, et cetera) as Jalis and Mallyx don’t profit from each other and Ventari cannot set up for anything and healing neither needs conditions on opponents nor taunted enemies.
All in all the lack of self sustain and movement makes the Revenant an easy target in PvP or small scale WvW but the Revenant is not a threat that needs to be dealt with. Pretty much the opposite of what classes should be.
“Missed Opportunity”
I wanted to like the Rev (even figured out a halfway decent hammer build) but I cannot. The class is great in theory; I love the concept that the developers went with, but in its current state, it feels… very lackluster.
The direct damage seems weak even when traited for it. The condition damage seemed a bit lackluster as well when traited properly. Healing was decent, but at the expense of any real consistent utility. Energy feels like a very clumsy mechanic that may be best just being cut altogether for a different system.
The biggest issue that I can see with the class is that it is so tied to its inflexible legends. The legends have been so themed for what they do that there is no real synergy between them. The lack of customization is also utterly crippling to the Revenant and makes for a very bland experience overall (thus far anyhow).
Some solutions to some of the issues faced by the Revenant would be an overall damage increase to all weapon skills (condi and power). Another would be designing another 3(ish) utilities for each legend to allow for some customization. If the utilities are designed with some legend interplay in mind, then they would be worlds better than what we have now. Another option would be that legends provide a certain set of buffs when selected and to otherwise allow the player to freely equip any utilities from whichever legends that they have selected.
Also, elites on Rev never felt elite in nature. Maybe consider doing elite skills based off of a combination of whatever legends you have equipped? Make them powerful expressions of the combined legends and make them feel epic.
