I’m sure this has been asked but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to tinker with the Revenant. My first impression is he really really needs a weapon swap. Tie it to a particular legend if you have to so that I could be hammer/jalis and staff/ventari or hammer/ventari and staff/jalis for example but right now it seems like weapon choices are going to be rough.

Keep in mind there are still a lot of missing weapons. The ones given with the beta characters are correct for the legends given. You get a legend swap to change up your utilities, too.

I thought this even after the first stress test. The weapons seem so specialized on this class that not being able to swap is a major hindrance. If the weapons were either less specialized, or allowed to be swapped this would be great. I can see running staff, but not as my only weapons for example.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I think it would be more interesting if there was just the one weapon, but it changed functionality somewhat with each legend. Say n hammer be melee with dwarf and ranges Condi with the demon for instance.

I agree with the need for better weapon/legend synergy. I set up Jalis/Ventari today — haven’t had time to test it in combat yet — and realized that hammer vs. staff are quite different in their combat focus. It didn’t matter so much for Jalis/Malyx as both were more damage oriented albeit in different manners, but that staff seems meant for support far more than for beating things up.

I like Morfedel’s idea even though it would be more complex to balance and play, akin to Ele attunement swaps changing the skill bar.

I could see the F1 switching both the legend and the weapon.
Basically, the revenant would have two weapon sets, but wouldn’t be able to switch them as usual. Instead, the first set would be used with the first legend, and the second set with the second legend.

With something like that a player could have a Jalis-Hammer/Ventari-Staff “build” and another a Jalis-Masse-Axe/Mallyx-Hammer for example.

That way it also would steal the Ele swap system.

Not having a weapon swap isn’t ‘interesting’, it’s boring as hell and the ability to swap utilities in no way compensates for it. Engi and Ele work because: 1) You end up with more skills than you would with just weapons anyway, with Engi featuring some of the greatwat customisation 2) You get both utility and offensive options through their respective mechanics 3) Their profession mechanics are well fleshed out. Anet said they didn’t want to put passives on each legend to discourage camping, well there’s very little reason to keep swapping. Everything we’ve been given so far is so 2 dimensional and limited in application.

Honestly it’s really disappointing so far.

hammer has 1200 range. i think the mace/axe is more melee than hammer, but it is ranged.

I feel like with the revenant, instead of swapping weapons/attunements/kits to fit the battlefield scenario, you’re swapping legends to shape the battlefield to suit your weapon choice.

Like, Mace/Axe is obviously a melee setup, and while all the conditions means it fits best with Mallyx, you could use the taunt from Jalis (which, btw, has no cooldown, meaning you can spam as long as you have the energy) to force them to close the distance (or at least close enough to shadowstep with the unblockable Axe 4 skill), or the Ventari channel as a moving projectile shield to close the distance.

Revenant however needs a 25% damage boost.

I’m pretty sure they’re referring to the lack of weapon swap (if you take a melee weapon then you don’t have a ranged option), not saying there’s no ranged weapon at all.

Again, they’re referring to the lack of weapon swap and how this means you’re locked into the range of whatever single weapon set you choose, not saying that there are no ranged weapons on the class.

It still doesn’t change that one of your legends will have to use a weapon meant for another. If those weapons were meant to be used with all legends, it would be different, but so far each one is dedicated to specific legend, and to it alone.

We’re still missing at least one legend, and probably the weapon set that goes with it. That will probably be the burst dps option you are looking for.

What if just the autoattack range changed when you swap legends? Each legend would have its own base autoattack range that they would use with every weapon.

So Ventari would always swing close, Glint could always reach out to mid (just a guess), and Jalis will always bat for the fences. Attack speed and damage would have to be tweaked, of course, but the basic mechanics of the attacks would stay as close as possible between legends.

I think it is clear that revenant lacks customization skill wise. Choose 1 weapon set out of 3, 2 legends out of 3. That’s all. Sure we will get more weapons and more legends, but that’s still very limited. I think we need weapon swap because as said, the weapons are very specialized. Also, despite being able to use utilities very often, it rarely feels that needed and thus switching legend I didn’t feel I was getting a very new play style. We need weapon swap or the weapons skills to be influence by the legend.

I feel a weapon swap is needed.
As others have said, the weapons are tied to the Legends, that are tied to their trait lines.
If I choose to use a Ventari/Mallyx legend set up, I almost need to take their associated trait lines to get the most out of them. I should take their associated weapons sets, BUT because I’m limited to only one (set), this means I’m favoring that legend over the other.
I can now see why people have been saying that the Rev is limiting in it’s customization.
I’m locked into 2 legends (in combat)
I’m locked into 2 of the 3 trait lines (to get the most out of my legend)
I’m locked into one weapon set (of which certain groupings are optimized for certain legends i.e. mace/axe for Mallyx, hammer for jalis, staff for ventari, etc,

I really don’t see the harm in add a weapon swap – heck, put it on a slightly longer cool down for balance (if that’s an issue).

It feels to me that it needs a weapon swap. Since the weapon skills are predetermined and the legend skills are predetermined, this makes for very “predetermined” gameplay. It feels rigid. At least with a weapon swap it would open it up a little.
