Is it just me or does the profession just feel a little bland? My main is an ele and when I started a rev it was pretty fun at first. But it’s starting to feel a little stale and kind of lacking that oomph. I feel pretty underpowered, maybe I’m doing something wrong? To be honest though ele felt like that in the beginning and didn’t start getting better until later on. Does rev get any better?

What weapons are you using?

Rev has some big problems with it’s design. But to begin with, rev is not underpowered at all. It can be really strong actually, but the profession is kinda dysfunctional.

Rev was rushed. And also was created with Herald in mind. This two things explain most of the problems. How rushed it was shows up with the Mallyx half changes, how underwater is just unfinished, how some traits were still made when rev had no weapon swap and such. And the second problem comes with the fact that all rev legends have set roles. Power dps, Shiro. Condi dps, Mallyx. Tankyness, Jarlis. Support, Ventari. And GW2 is a game where one of the big deals is that most builds can do a bit of everything. When you make revenant have set roles, it disconnects with the design philosophy with the rest of the game. This feeling is made even stronger with the fact that you can’t swap utilities. So you might have some skills that are useful, and some that are not. But as the profession was created with Herald in mind, this problem is somewhat resolved with Glint. That is a great legend and goes well in any build: Shiro/Glint, Mallyx/Glint and so go on. Is a neutral ground where all skills are useful in any situaton that makes rev being less focused in a exclusive role.

Anyway. Rev does get much better later on with Herald. It’s dysfunctional overall right now, but can be super strong with the right build. And it’s rushed, so we hope there’s still a lot to change.

Playing an ele is about switching attunements and skill combos whereas rolling a rev is about optimizing the energy bar. Rev is easy to pick up because of the pre made utility bars. But good players would actively manage the energy instead of just spam skills.

Underpowered? rev is in the top 3 dps classes. have you been using sword/axe with shiro? Because that auto attack combined with impossible odds is amazing. Then when you get glint you can have perma fury+swiftness+might

Revenant isn’t only Glint or Shiro, even if for now it seems. Can we speak about the three underpowered legends we have?

I would say it is somewhat incomplete thanks to being new and from various stages of iteration (compared to the older classes) but i have a lot of fun with it. It really satisfies my hybrid wishes for a character, if that makes sense. I played a shaman in that other game a lot, if that means something to you that is a big reason why i love particularly the Herald legend. A lot of team support.

Mallyx is fun when you want to dole out conditions with some nice utility to it, although I feel like this probably needs a bit of trait work especially.

Shiro doesn’t need any work except maybe lessening impossible odds impact so that you actually consider weapon skills in his stance for anything else than utility.

Jalis and Ventari are fun (although I feel like the tablet for the latter feels a little unresponsive at times), but i think they share a certain unknown as to what their place in the grand scheme of things are even if their roles are sort of stated, taking damage and healing. Perhaps this will develop as the expansion matures though.

Yes I’m using sword/axe and have really only found Sword 3 to be the most useful, and the evade utility skill to be the second most useful. But I haven’t tried impossible odds and auto attacking… I’m sure that would pump out much more dps than sword 3. I’ve really only been using it as a way to travel faster.

Yes it is, the other legends are so bad they don’t even exist to me. So yeah, it’s just glint+shiro.
