So it’s skill:

  • range 1200
  • 4 seconds CD
  • Hit up to 5 target
  • 3/4 second cast including aftercast and all.
  • No animations or anything to know the hammer is coming or anything.

Still that skill does 9K damage in 3K armor toon.
The ranger’s strongest skill, the Longbow Rapid Fire can do around 7-8K in 2 1/2 seconds cast.
Can anybody explain to a druid player how is that reasonable?

Simple.
Hammer is a broken, buggy mess whose only real use is strong, single hits on plain surfaces (breaks on any incline).

It’s #3 is kinda bad. Sounds fine on paper, but in reality it’s just a rooted Evade. I’ve found that it just worsens my position rather than improve it.

  1. is kinda nice, but it’s a tad slow.
  1. is worthless trash.

Meanwhile, Ranger Longbow has higher range and can pierce.

  1. still hits pretty hard and tracks through stealth. It also can’t be side-stepped like Hammer #2 at longer ranges.
  1. is nice utility for re-positioning.
  1. is a quick knock-back that allows you to kite much easier; can be combined with #3 or #2 easily.
  1. isn’t terribly great, but it can be somewhat useful for better AoE cleave and for applying Cripple.

So, overall, Longbow has better utility and functions better as a ranged weapon due to its better kiting capabilities.

Revenant Hammer has damage and a projectile block.

I can explain how it is possible, but whether it is reasonable is up for debate.

If you had 3K armor it likely means you had vulnerability & they had full might stacks or Cruel Repercussions due to Aegis.

Cruel Repercussions = + 50% damage <—- needs nerf
Assassin’s Presence = + 10% critical damage ( + 150 ferocity)
Ferocious Aggression = + 7% with fury up
Targeted destruction = + 7% damage vs vulnerable target
Swift Termination =+ 20% vs <50% HP
Elder’s Force = +2% damage per boon (easily +10%)

Sigil of Force = +5%

It has a 2.4K-ish tooltip with 2600 Power ; 3K tooltip at 3100 power or so. You can easily get 200-220% crit.

Without swift termination:

2.4K * 1.07*1.07*1.5*1.1*1.05*2.2 ~10.5K vs 2600 armor or 9K vs 3000 armor

3K * 1.07*1.07*1.5*1.1*1.05*2.2 ~13K vs 2600 armor or 11K vs 3000 armor <—- with 20 might stacks (not 25)

It is affected by terrain though

Desolation (EU) → Yak’s Bend (US)
In your backline: Elementalist+Mesmer+Necromancer

Yeah, CoR bugs out by almost any terrain change…also it’s pretty iffy on stairs…and unlike Rapid Fire, it can’t hit people that are up on a ledge/wall. Also, as for animation…I don’t know what your graphics settings are or what kind of computer you have, but CoR is a very, very obvious animation…the rev slams the hammer down and then a giant black/red rupture of energy moves along the ground toward you…and because CoR cascades, you have enough time to see it and dodge it…I don’t know…maybe you’re talking about in like blob vs blob situations where you can’t see when a rev uses CoR? But, to be fair, if that’s the case, in a blob v blob, it’s hard to see almost anything that anyone is doing b/c there are so many people.

One doesn’t need to use a dodge to avoid the dreaded CoR. Advance towards the Revenant while strafing, that will often be enough to avoid all damage completely. No cooldowns used, no energy used, all dodges kept available.

Or play a revenant for a little while, and learn where the terrain causes CoR to do no damage. It has to be one of the easiest attacks to avoid at no cost.

Still the whining about hammer? Seriously? It’s already been nerfed, it does not need another nerf. Not to mention it’s still very buggy.

While I agree that when people spam CoR it’s extremely annoying, hammer has nothing else going for it. If you’re not I a zerg and someone is coming after you the hammer has no way of keeping them out. 3 is a free pass to walk up to them because the animation is so obvious and it’s only one attack. If you get hot with 5 then…idk what to tell you. So yeah, CoR is stupid, buggy and really strong for something that can be spammed at 1200 range, think of any other reason to use hammer.

Where have you noticed Revenant with Hammer after it’s nerf? I’ve seen 1 somewhere in amber or emerald division since Season 2 started. Just curiosity.

Hammer is a weapon that no rev want to touch with a stick anymore. Even i dropped that for staff and it says a lot.. for me revenant doesnt have a ranged wep now.
