Revenant Feedbacks [merged]
Inspired by a thread on the GW2 Reddit forum, I figured there really should be a topic here for everyone to post what they want their future revenant to look like.
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Dark Knight-ish, like the majority of guardian players out there. But a rusty-looking phalanx armor, or a legendary/ golden looking mix of phalanx/ other pieces, is very appealing to me as well. And if possible, a mythical looking set.
As most of my chars are dyed Celestial, I’ll probably try to make some Divine looking Revenant

Btw – my 2 concepts I posted will most likely change as more heavy skins become available with HoT’s release (I’ll probably go for the blindfold instead of the rampart helm), but for now I really like those 2.

Is there a preview code for the Revenant (Rytlock’s) armor set yet? Because I kind of need the leg code to do any such preview.
I’m soooo excited! I’m trying to go with a more ritualist inspired look. So tattoos and covered eyes.
Sooooo exciiiittteeeed. I need to think of a name!

Not that I know of :-( I was hoping for the code too but I guess it’s not available – will probably come out literally when HoT is released (unless Anet plans on making it a gemstore armor set?)
Everything is subject to change depending on what sort of skins we get in HoT, but this is what i plan to rock, I’ll be donning rytlocks mask if it’s available.

Ill probably reskin my mesmer and let my revenant have his look because kitten its scary

That’s really well done. Hope it holds up when you actually take it into the game. I’ve had so many great custom sets ruined by glaring clipping issues that only occur on attack animations.

right…… back to the drawing board i dont have many heavy armor skins atm :/ i should work on that set real quick

I hope so too. I’ll be pretty sad if it doesn’t

Wow, look at all these ratchet fashion disasters.
I probably won’t make a norn revenant, but thought this looked alright.
Kodan inspired:
This is what I got at the moment (they better add new armour sets in the expansion). Funny how I originally wanted the Revenant as an Asuran but the wardrobe are much better as a female human (I didn’t knew the proportation were much worse on a heavy armored Asuran!).
Just to be clear, the colours are not final (was playing as a newly creacted character so I had no access to the shoulder and arm armour pieces) as I have no idea what her colour combo will be (maybe black and orange).
I am still in turmoil with the overal pieces as I prefered the carapace chest piece (I liked the armour part on the next) but there is no similar legging to the carapace (I liked the side skirts). Ok there are a couple but it doesn’t match in my eyes.
Arah legging look ok but it has too much exposed skin for my liking (also I haven’t post the image but an nice alternative to the arm is the arah arm piece).

My future revenant:
I would have this fire one if I could.
But I’ll probably end up with something like the second one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zkT2uZAGA – GW2 – A world of wonder
I’m going for a fitted agile & tomboyish look and it just had to be sylvari. There aren’t many staves that work since I’m using abyss (because the dye channels for previews are wonky) and the gloves might change, but the rest of the look is staying for sure.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’m planning something like this, but with a darker skinned Sylvari and the leg armor from the future Rytlock set. Will modify any and all other armor pieces to match them.
And well, I’m never using Carapace legs for anything else. Because, as beautiful as they are, they clip with freaking everything.

i’m using the armor that rytlock has…it looks way too kitten
it’s already in the game client, and has models for all 5 races
male human, big/muscly build – zodiac armour, flameseeker prophecies (might take me a while to get that) and fiery dragon sword
he will be my gw1 character brought back to life

On top of all the other problems with the expansion, I think one thing people seem to miss or forget is that it does not, by default, include a character slot for your Revenant character.
By default, Guild Wars 2 comes with FIVE character slots. This is already an inadequate number, forcing you to pay 30 dollars extra if you want to play all of the base classes. This means that you are already hard-up for character slots from the get-go. HEART OF THORNS, meanwhile, introduces exactly one class, the Revenant, and this one class is marketed as a feature of the expansion.
In order to use this class (expansion feature), you must pay a minimum of 10 extra dollars. This is not taking into account the people who have enough character slots already, as, guess what, they already spent the 10 dollars. Alternatively, if you want your PURCHASE to include a character slot, you can pay TWENTY-FIVE extra dollars for Heart of Thorns instead, getting what should’ve been in the base price along with a bunch of useless extras.
This is unacceptable when every single class-adding addon since the franchise’s inception has AT LEAST had the decency to throw in a slot for the new class(es) available.
I propose that Arenanet should at the very least give a character slot to every veteran who buys heart of thorns, though I think it would be fair to give a slot to every account that has it, new or old. If you’re going to sell us a class as a feature of an expansion that we pay for, ensure that we can at least ROLL ONE.
Working as Intended.
I mean is really must be difficult to program the HoT key to “see” what account you have i.e. already own GW2 base game and “add” the character slot to compensate for losing that GW2 base game key.
You would have to rebuy your old car packaged with your new car.
I think you’ll find a lot of people being surprised by that decision.
You know they considered it and had to know they’d get some backlash. The most reasonable explanation (to me) is that money won the day and they expect people to shell out enough money for the gems to buy a character slot or buy the more expensive releases or, potentially, a gold sink for people to convert gold to gems to get a slot.
In any case, its just another reason why I’m leaning more and more to not buying the expansion.
Its all about value for the money and at this point, I don’t see it.
I still don’t see why people are surprised by this… Anyone that knows GW’s history was not expecting a character slot. EotN, the only true expansion in GW history, did not add a character slot. Even after owning Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and EotN, you still had to purchase character slots to have one of every class. This entire thing is being blown up due to player entitlement…

What? While it is true EOTN was GW1s only true expansion and it didn’t have a character slot, it also didn’t add a new class. If it had you better believe we’d have expected a slot for it.
“Buy our expansion to play this new class!
..also pay again to actually be able to play it"
I find it shady as well. GW1 added character slots when they added new professions. GWEN didn’t add any new professions, so it didn’t come with any additional character slots.
Though in the end it doesn’t matter what they did or didn’t do in the past. What matters is what they do in the future, and it is within their power to simply add a choice between GW2 + HoT or HoT + Character slot. That would still be the most sober solution, I think.
Take a look at the comparison I made for the previous expansions and what was included in the base version of the game. In EVERY Guild Wars 1 game that introduced professions, they gave you one character slot per new profession added, so:
Factions: 2 new professions, 2 character slots included with base game
Nightfall: 2 new professions, 2 character slots included with base game
Eye of the North: 0 new professions, no character slot included with the base game.
All very interesting really, why the base game here, with one new profession, doesn’t include a character slot with the base game.

Prophecies didn’t include new classes if you bought Factions/Nightfall first (yes it’s possible), yet you’d still get +2 slots when adding a Prophecies game to your account.

Facts are a harsh mistress. GW1 included 4 slots with the first campaign (with 6 classes). Each additional campaign bound to the account added 2 slots, enough to cover the 2 New classes introduced in later campaigns. You had to buy 2 extra for all 10 classes, but EVERY campaign gave you enough to access the Highlighted content; namely the 2 classes, and the ability to start or import a new character immediately in the areas related to campaign.
EOTN being the only actual expansion is true. It was also cheaper then the campaigns, didn’t highlight a new class, and introduced Class-agnostic skills via title tracks. This required no specialties through the classes, and had no impact on the PvP aspect of the game. Aside from Cracked armor, and a couple condition changes, this was a purely PvE addition to the game, and could be experienced immediately after activating on the account.
So knowing guildwars history, we fully expected a character slot to ensure the new class was accessible, regardless of the preexisting characters, and that the new area would be quickly accessible to new characters, or existing characters via low level hub towns.
EOTN was level 20 content too, to make use of it, you weren’t expected at all to start a new char.
OP, you forget that they also do not have a monthly sub for playing this game. the very least you can do is spend an extra $10 to buy a character slot(because they arent asking for a required $180 every year). seriously, you are asking for way too much for a game with no monthly fee.

Guild Wars 1 had no monthly sub fee AND not a fraction of the gem store that we have today and they still gave us 2 characters slots with each xpac…. Your argument is invalid
If I buy the standard version could not play with the “Revenant”, because I have not a free slot, this is right?
What if the standard addition included a character slot but instead of $50 dollars it was $60 dollars? Would that make you guys happy? Probably not

That is correct, you’ll have to buy a character slot for an extra $10/large sum of gold to play Revenant for the standard edition.

The character slot augment only applies to people who have been playing the game long enough to have at least five Lvl 80 characters. If you have an unused character slot, you can make your Reverant on that.
I can not wait until tempers die down and we all can just enjoy HoT. Choices have been made. Some good some bad. People seem to forget how much we do get for free from Anet. Most mmo’s would charge players for 90% of the updates we have got over the past few years.

If you have no character slot free well no you won’t be able to make revenant unless you get another character slot.
Seeing as most of us had to buy extra character slots to play each profession as is, it really isn’t such a big deal as many are making it out to be.
Would it have been nice for anet to give us a slot to make a revenant? Yes it would but if you look at it like that it would have also been nice of them to already have a character slot for each profession.

Eye of the North was designed for existing characters, to offer them high level content. This is why all content in EotN starts at level 20.

Don’t be silly.
A character slot isn’t worth anything. The 10$ is simply what they choose to charge for spare ones. Which is fine.
But including some for the new class doesn’t mean they have to jack up the price.

Lots of silly people around so it is hard to not be silly. Who is to say they jacked up the price? I feel Anet feels their expansion is worth the $50 dollars. So if they feel it is worth the money why should they charge less for it?

Didn’t say they should charge less for it. Said they don’t have to jack it up to 60 to give us a character slot. Reading comprehension will take you far.

Did you only get 2 new slots… I thought I got more than that when I bought Factions then added in Nightfall / Factions.
My complaint is that the nightfall and prophesies were games that added game worlds as large as the original game. Is the new world content here going to double the size of Tyria?
An account gets by default 2 slots. The core game is pretty bare bone in GW1 though. Adding a campaign to a base account adds 2 slots.
So the first capaign you buy, you have 4 slots. And each campaign after that gets +2.
