Revenant - Instant Lvl 80
I thought it was stat selectable gear. But if it’s not, for my rev I run marauder armor and zerker trinkets. I know you get exotic gear, which is pretty good and certainly enough to run you through any part of the game except fractals. Just check on what stats you get. That part is much more important. Marauder is power, precision, ferocity, and vitality. Zerker just has the first three of that list.
Revenant gets exotic soldier gear. It.works just fine in HoT PvE.
Yeah, soldier’s gear is going to be fine. It’s a lot more survivable than what I’m running, which is much more focused on damage. Good gear, but you’ll probably want to start slowly replacing some of the pieces with zerker as you figure out how to play the rev.
If you’re already familiar with how gear works in GW2 feel free to skip this, but just in case here’s a quick summary which is important for answering this question.
Unlike a lot of games there’s only 6 tiers of equipment: Common (white), Fine (blue), Masterwork (green), Rare (yellow), Exotic (orange) and Ascended (pink). All equipment with the same level and tier is equally good – exotics you can craft are the same as ones dropped by champions or earned from dungeons etc.
The only two people tend to worry about at level 80 are exotic and ascended because exotic is widely available and relatively cheap meaning most people are able to get it immediately at level 80 (and therefore don’t bother with anything weaker). Ascended is more of a long term goal, it’s a rare drop only available in a few places or needs to be crafted using expensive, time-gated materials. And the stat difference isn’t very big so many people just use exotic or gradually upgrade as and when they can afford a piece.
What does make a difference is the stat combination. These are also standardised – they all add up to the same number of points, it’s just which stats they go into that are different. With a few exceptions most are also available in a number of different places.
The Level 80 boost is aimed at brand new players with no experience at level 80 so it’s always a more defensive set. Soldier’s gives bonuses to Power (damage), Toughness (armour) and Vitality (health), so it’s a good balance of offensive and defensive.
So in summary the gear you’ve got is 1 tier below the best in the game and you don’t need ascended for most of the game so there’s no need to worry about upgrading it right away. The stats are good but may not be the best choice for your build so you might want to think about getting exotics with a different stat combination, if you know what you want.
Finally I recommend checking out this article on the wiki, I find it really useful: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature
