Revenant Trait Discussion and Feedback
I’d like some more Fury uptime from Invocation traitline. I think Devastation is fine, but maybe that higher Fury uptime could be added to Devastation for more synergy.
Most of the things look like randomly placed, yes. You’d think Retribution would give better stability times and protection but we just got a clone of Engineer’s, some on dodge retaliation and stuff.

I really like Mallyx and the Corruption traits, but I I still think they could be improved.
For one, Demonic Defiance is very fun. This is a build-defining trait, and I think it should be Grand Master level.
Second, as others have mentioned, Maniacal Persistence is very bad. And unless one is using condition damage, there is very little synergy (e.g. on crit effects) in Corruption. There is only Frigid Precision (chill on crit), which is probably not very good.
Astaxanthas (Revenant), Hepaticus (Engineer), Eosinophus (Thief)
There’s so many thread focused on Revenant skills/weapons when I feel the most dire problems this BWE are the underwhelming traits. Don’t get me wrong, the skills/weapons need more work but they’re seen good improvement from the last test drive. However, their traits hasn’t even been touched. Several of the traits go so far as to be copy paste of other class’s trait.
- Swift Termination – Necro’s Close to Death. I mean, it’s a good damage modifier but it’s a copy paste. I’d rather see something more Revenant defining in terms damage boosting.
- Redeeming Protection – Engi’s Protection Injection. Copy paste.
- Eluding Nullification – Pretty much a lesser version of Ele’s Evasive Arcana Cleansing Wave dodge roll. You can argue that EA is a GM trait but it still doesn’t justify the current state of Eluding Nullification.
- Cleansing Channel – Pretty much Necro’s Death Shroud condi removal.
- Invigorating Flow – Similar to Thief’s Assassin’s Reward but with an ICD. Lackluster Master trait.
And then there’s Grandmaster traits like Destructive Hammer and Steadfast Rejuvenation having silly RNG factors for proccing. Why they can’t be 100% proc is beyond me. Not to mention both are extremely underwhelming as GM traits.
There’s several other weird and underwhelming traits that I feel Anet can improve on or just replace and create new ones. To sum it up, about 80% of Revenant’s traits have 1 effect at best(most are underwhelming) compared to what other classes have now ever since they overhauled trait lines. Take for example Warrior’s Forceful Greatsword gives 20% CD reduction, might on crit, and a 10% damage increase as a Master trait. This trait has 3 effects bundled into 1 amazing trait. It’s like Anet were too afraid to make Revenants initially powerful.
I’m even surprised they haven’t created traits that improves Energy generation or slows degen nor have they created weapon specific traits. Hell they could tie weapon specific traits with Energy generation or energy reduction for weapon skills which would help with some expensive energy skills.
Overall there needs to be more synergy with weapon + traits and stronger defensive traits. I just hope a lot of what Revenant needs isn’t stuffed into Glint’s Elite spec. So please Anet, make Revenant feel more Revenant instead of literally copying ideas from other classes …
Yes, giving the Revenant’s traits more character and making sure that they are still giving them something as well and not just pretty effect. Yeah the hammer is cool and all, but it doesn’t really do all that much of damage, especially for a gm trait, and classes like the engi have not only better ones, but multiple ones that are better spread across all tiers.
I will say they did a great job at making the abilities of the class having character and for the basic part still being usable, but they can’t just stop there and then whip up some recycled traits.
Having more traits that tie into weapons, like other classes do and the specific one mentioned above that even has other effects, has been asked for by quite a bit of people I have noticed. Also have seen others wishing for more traits that deal with regenerating of energy or something other than just “Get might on skill press that takes you under 50” (Which is honestly strange because every ability does do that because you start at 50 anyways and to get enough energy to where it won’t take you under 50 would require you to not do anything for quite a bit of time)
Trash traits:
Retribution
- Retaliatory Evasion
- Empowering Vengeance
Salvation
- Steadfast Rejuvenation
- Tranquil Balance
- Hardened Foundation
- Invoking Harmony
- Tranquil Benediction
- Natural Abundance
- Selfless Amplification
Invocation
- Invigorating Flow
The majority of traits that operate around healing power are either plagued by terrible scaling or unnecessary internal cooldowns. I understand that ventari is supposed to feel thematically like some sort of spring of healing to allies but at the moment the scaling on ALL healing spells is simply so lackluster you could go full zerker and not even notice a difference.
In regards to Retribution, so many traits operate around retaliation yet the revenants access to this boon is largely lacking. Traits like Retaliatory Evasion are oxymoronic and all grandmaster traits would be considered adept tier on any other class. In short, there is no compelling reason to take this trait line over any other (including salvation).
Devestation, Corruption and Invocation are really the only trait trees worth taking.
If I trait other classes I really have to think about what I am traiting. It’s more like "uh that could be nice together with that and so long. But with revenent most of the time you just pick the one thats not absolutly terrible. Exeption here are traits for only outgoing healing, I see they are somehow nice with ventari but ventari feels so terrible if you have to you even can’t heal yourself with the heal legend that is so I don’t know how to call that. If you use ventary and get attacked by anything you will have to switch it because there is no good burst heal on that stupid tablet. + As Bacon said the heal skaling is …wow.
So many traits could be added to exsisting one or replace some.
What comes to my mind
§ You lose a condition if you use energy
§ You start with more energy (60%, 70%)
§ The cost on skills with energy is reduced
§ Activating jalis skills gives you retail and stability
§ Bundeled with any minor the jalis traitline should power up your upkeep skill, reduced energy cost or 3 hammers
§ Bundeld with shiros traitline you get reduced energy cost on your upkeep skill
§ Same with malix upkeep energycost reduce or more, longer conditransfer
I mean why should you trait in the corresponding traitline if all your utilitys stays the same, they really should think about that. Other classes have traits for specific utilitys rev has nearly nothing.

Can we get the Corruption Grandmaster traits looked at?
Diabolic Inferno is 4seconds of PBAoE Burn on a 10 second cooldown that has a gating criteria of requiring you to use an Elite skill. The Elite skills take 50 Energy and aren’t the kind of things it seems you’ll be able to spam every 10 seconds making this trait terrible. It would be decent (Dhuumfire like) if it applied burning on your target when you hit it with a 10 second cooldown, AoE or not.
Maniacal Persistance increases crit chance 2% per second until you crit when it resets. Given that the number of attacks a typical character throws out in combat, a reasonable expectation is this bonus will be 4-8% most of the time, probably closer to 4, and we’ve already heard that a GM trait giving 10% crit while under Fury is woefully underpowered and will be bumped to 20%. 4-8% static crit chance for a GM trait (in the condition tree) is terrible, please reconsider.
Pulsating Pestilance has a 15% chance to copy conditions on you to nearby (240) foes with a 15 second cooldown. While interesting in concept, in implementation it is also very conditional and woefully underpowered. With no gate on the number of conditions to trigger, this is entirely RNG and very likely the majority of the time it will trigger with very few conditions on you and/or no enemies nearby and then go on a 15 second cooldown. Its flavorful and terrible, not good in any sense.
Please give us at least one GM Corruption trait that has general application across situations and game modes that a player using conditions would want to take. I’d take a static +100 condition damage over any of these traits, heck, I’d take a second chance and cooldown on Rampant Vex, the first Corruption Minor over any of these GM traits.
