Hey guys,
I’ve been searching the web for quite some time now but I feel like all I can find is outdated.
So I just came back to the game and I can’t decide which profession I want to main. I stopped before HoT came out and I kinda like the Revenant so far.
Well but I did some research and I can’t come to an conclusion. Is the Rev viable in PvE at the time? Is he wanted for raids? Is he a good DD?

I am not sure if I would like to play him as a main or my Necro Reaper on Viper gear. What do you suggest, is it true that both of them are hated in PvE due to bad dmg or whatever reason?

Rev is good, especially Condi rev got a considerable buff recently
But currently Rev isn’t part of PvE meta and is a pretty bad choice for Raiding since some ppl get way too hung up on meta builds and might kick you from a raiding group just for being a Rev :\

But, rev has become way more popular recently since WvW became popular again after the recent update, and Rev is just invaluable in WvW. Also the buff to condi rev made him more popular in sPvP as far as I know, but I dont play this mode so much so you should probably wait for a more informed answer on that

Just emphasizing that Rev isnt bad for PvE, it’s just not meta and some ppl get hung up on that, and it’s awful.

Btw: Just want to say that I’ve been having this debate with myself as well and I ended up going for Warrior main. The current meta is really fun, and it’s just so much fun constantly playing with 25 might I recommend checking it out, but ofc it’s very subjective.

Whatever Revenant do in pve , another one will do better and thats kinda sad.

Okay, so what I can see so far is that a Rev isn’t better than an average okay.
Do you think that the Profession is coming back to live in a near future patch?

Since I really like these 3, what would you say I should main (for now) I have to get started somewhere with all the new stuff.
What would be the best your suggestion as a main?

Warrior, my old main character, but I felt like there was an overload of people playing that back then. How is it now? Do you still play him as Berserker?

My Necro, my think back then, which I ended up playing a lot until I stopped. I heard Reaper is not really good at the moment either… so what is haha?
On him I have to get the new Viper gear which would be fine.

Or, the Revenant, which I enjoyed playing since I restarted the Game, but seems to be garbage. Getting him geared, manning him with the story stuff and hoping for future buffs on him?

I’m so so insecure which one I wanna pick, since I like the gameplay of all of them, but I want one character with whom I do all the story quests, all my main focus on like exploring every map, I think you know what I mean.
It’s such a tough decision, once I’m done this gearing thinks is not a problem but I want my main to be a class that’s desired so that I can do most stuff on him.

Warrior still has to run Berserker, though there may be few setups that dont need it for Tactics instead. They do have a fairly easy time getting into Fractals/Raids due to their popularity (though it also often means that their spot’s taken) at least.

You’ll likely have to run (mostly) Vipers on both Necro/Warrior when it comes to hardcore farming either way.

If you just want to do map completion, story, meta events and non-tryhard fractal farms, with a few Raids/WvW here and there, your Revenant will do just fine. Play it through if you enjoy it so and pray for buffs

Full Berserker. You can probably add some Berserker+Valkyrie or Assassins if you want some Vitality, though.

Revenant is one of the better classes in sPvP actually.

As for the topic, I’d say go for it, if your burning desire is to raid, then get a guild who will take you along. The class itself can be quite difficult to pick up, but it gets easier as time passes on.

People saying rev is bad in PvP aren’t good at PvP. Rev is top tier in PvP and WvW, idk much about raids.

Rev is great for everything except finding PUG Raid groups.. Although the same can be said for your Viper Necro.

I would play whichever you like the most for story/exploring the map/open world crap (personally I do all of that on my Rev, because permanent swiftness makes the world go round), but if you really want to get into raiding, you should work on gearing a CPS Warrior, Chrono, Druid, or CRanger/Ele/DareDevil/CEngineer. Or eventually as many of those as you get drops for.

People get hung up on trying to play one class for everything, like they would in other games where leveling/gearing is such an arduous process. But this game makes boosting a character to 80 and gearing them/sharing gear so incredibly easy, it’s a pretty big pitfall to just have the one character that you HOPE doesn’t get nerfed out of the meta.

From a strictly raiding perspective, it’s getting to the point in the community where if you’re not multiclass, you’re going to have trouble finding a group regardless of your class choice (except maybe chrono, since they’re so expensive to gear, and the current meta wants 2 for almost every boss, they’re always in demand.)

Depends…. if you only want one set, then Vipers armor with 2 sets of trinkets (viper and celestial/trailblazer) to swap between Fractals and WvW respectively.

If you go power build for any reason, marauders armor is highly desirable for the extra HP with minimal pwr/prec loss. (4 stat combos always have higher total counts, but a lower max cap). Maurauders HP bonus is practically a must for WvW, as you need that extra padding for front line survivability.

As for its overall state….. its clunky in open world due to the limited cleave in most weapons. And while the hammer is still one of the strongest overall tools, it gets less reliable if enemies focus on you too much. I haven’t had a chance to build up a full viper set, since I’ve been reluctant to commit to a build when the class acceptance is shakey…. but the Marauder builds do… ok-ish. You won’t be struggling, but doesn’t get the kind of solo high notes the other classes get in even their baseline kits.

This mostly boils down to the fact that Rev is a “Support as Primary” class, so their potential is hampered without other players nearby to compound off of. But having even 1 or 2 players nearby really makes the Rev shine, whether you’re brawling a group of mobs, operating backline damage, and of course support jobs and CC.

I have a Rev I played a lot back in the day, thinking about coming back to it now as well because it allows for more group help which is nice. Been playing thief for a majority of the time but in major groups their isn’t much I can do besides provide DPS, even though as much as I enjoy playing it. Going to have to give rev another try.

Power Rev is really good for pvp due to other classes getting nerfed recently and also for wvw roaming. But keep in mind that it takes skill to play it cause u are really vulnerable to condis, therefore use your dodges, blocks, heals and blinds wisely. Regarding raids I recommend to use cps warrior instead of rev.
