Debating whether to splurge on HoT, and part of the consideration is whether I want to roll a revenant vs. continue with my established elementalist. I rarely have the time to main more than one character, so though I have several 80s, one (currently ele) is a main, and everyone else is relegated to the status of novelty.

I play exclusively PvE. I mostly solo, sometimes run dungeons or fractals, but my main source of enjoyment is exploration and occasional “hey, that monster looks big, wonder if I can beat it on my own” exercise. I’m certainly not the best elementalist out there, but I’ve been told that I’m good. I also know that PvE is considered “easy” and doable by any character, but to me it’s all about style and impact – I like to feel powerful.

So with all that in mind, how does Revenant do in PvE? I would especially love to see feedback from people who, like me, have mained an Ele for a long time. Thanks in advance.

How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

It’s really two different classes. When in elementalist you can have a lot of skills you only have 20 with revenant and they are looked, you can"t change them. If you like huge amount of skills elementalist is clearly better here. After i must advise you that revenant is mostly incomplete, it’s for now no more than a beta class and, even if you have 5 legends avalible (well 4 coz ventari is pure healing, he is more situationnal) only two of them work correctly, others are kitten but mostly in pvp. Revenant is still more tanky than an elementalist but not like a guardian.

Ah yes, don’t care one way or another about the number of skills, I know it’s a point of pride for some players but not me really. If it gets the job done, it gets the job done, ya know?

Can’t comment on Ele vs rev, but if you like to explore, I suspect you would find the expansion worth it, provided the higher challenge level doesn’t bother you. Heck, there are veterans out there that feel like an accomplishment to beat at times. At any rate, the maps are wildly convoluted, with lots of hidden places and such, and you have to pay a lot more attention to what you are fighting. Some people don’t like that, but from what you said, I suspect you would enjoy it.

I prefer the Revenant coming from an Elementalist. It’s much more mobile DPS and hammer gives us all the AOE tagging that Staff ever did. It’s also mechanically very simple and you get a ton of passive survivability as well as active survivability by going shield/glint. I get away running full Zerker in the jungle because of it, which honestly is pretty cool. On demand Super Speed NEVER gets old regardless of content.ccccccc

The main difference is Elementalist has much better utility selection all around because they can select their utilities. Most of the time you’ll likely be in Glint and Shiro but there’s times where you just need a single utility from another Legend and your only option is to swap everything else out. Like other day I needed boon strip, I had to drop Shiro (which is a lot of DPS) and put on Mallyx for a single utility. Conversely an Elementalist can go, “Oh I need a lot more defense, I’ll equip Glyph of Storms and get AOE Blind.”

Ele is still more dps, but rev isn’t too far behind. and on mobile targers rev is arguably better. You also get a lot more hp and sustain skills to keep you alive unlike ele

Melee Vs caster …. I don’t think it’s too relevant to even compare the two of them. My revenant doesn’t do as much damage but he doesn’t die as much. My elementalist doesn’t survive as much but she dishes out damage like a pro.

And as a side note; my revenant has yet to pocket raptor food.

I have a elementalist/tempest, engineer/scrapper and revenant. And so far the 3 of them are unique enough to warrant dabbling in all of them.

Go with revenant if you like the GW1 feel of having lower recharges offset by energy costs. And GW2 finally bringing in sustainable skills is actually really awesome.

The Revenant is much, much less complicated and intricate to play than the Elementalist, has an easier time surviving (due to its armor, hp pool, and access to blocks/shields), and possesses very high DPS (though not quite as high as an ele’s). The Revenant is primarily a melee class, as it has only one ranged weapon (though it’s a really good one).

The Elementalist, by comparison, has higher damage, more skill customization, and greater utility, but has all the durability of a wet tissue.

In terms of difficulty, the Revenant “only” cycles between two weapon sets and two sets of heal/utility/elites in battle, and while you aren’t able to customize your utilities aside from in groups of five, the utilities you get from your legendary stances are very, very good.

I’ve been playing a whole lot of the heal/support stance, Centaur, and while I think the stance is a lot of fun with its mass blinding, steady pulse heals, reflect, cleansing, and knock back (I love using energy expulsion, then surge of the mists, then summoning up another tablet and immediately,p detonating it to blind and in again), I would still say that an Elementalist is a stronger burst healer due it’s access to water fields.

Elementalists can also stack more might with combo fields than Revs, but Revenants have a much easier time when it comes to throwing on buffs.

Eles often rely on combos for effectiveness. The Revenant does very little with combos.

The way most people play Revs right now at high level (with Glint/Shiro), it plays a little like the weird, mutant baby of a guardian and a thief.
